Since
I suffer from frequent back and neck pain, I've been looking into using tens
unit therapy to help with my pain. So when I was given the opportunity to use
this, I jumped at it. To start with, it was fairly simple to set up, though I
did have some difficulty connecting the pads to the cord leading into the
device as I had to shove them in very hard to get them to fit. However, once I
got it sorted out, it was easy to use. However, this is when I ran into my next
problem.
While
I liked the wide range of areas I could use this on, I wish the guide had
provided more information about where it was safe to use this device. All that
was provided information wise were pictures on a small page in the guide and on
the back of the box showing where you could place the pads. There was no
explanation beyond that, which I would have liked since I wasn't sure exactly
where to place them (and the photos only went so far in helping). Plus, there
was no information regarding whether or not the device could be used on areas
outside of the ones pictured (which other devices from this company showed you
could). So is it still safe to use on those areas? Also, though this was
supposed to help with neck pain, there wasn't a picture of where on the neck
these could be placed, so I didn't know if it would be safe to do so. This
irritated me because that was a major reason why I wanted to use this.
Next,
I was able to choose what settings I wanted to use. While I tried the
pre-programmed settings, I found that I preferred to just choose my own
settings. When I went to use the device, I noticed that there was no way to
adjust the amount of time for the device to run. If you wanted to add more time
after the 15 minutes was up, you needed to turn it off and then set it back up
again. And since there was no way to pause the device, I had to turn it off
then reset it again if I ever needed to take a break or move the pads.
I
also discovered once I was done that once the batteries are put in, there is no
off switch. So while the electricity can be turned off, the display can't, so
that leads me to think the battery is being drained even when I'm not using the
device, which seems like a big oversight on the company's part to me.
And
now, for the big question: did it work? Unfortunately, not very much. While I
felt good while using the device and I did feel some temporary relief in the
areas where I used the tens unit, the pain relief never lasted for more than 15
minutes or so. Even after using this constantly for almost two weeks, I still
haven't noticed any change in my level of pain. So while this is nice to use
just as a temporary relief, I wouldn't pay $30 for it or recommend it to those
looking for serious pain relief.
