Creepz Book Blast

Blurb:
June 2017. New York is suffering under the worst heatwave in centuries, but it’s the barrage of grisly murders that has city dwellers on edge. Since the homicides don’t fit a pattern, the NYPD is treating them as unrelated, but Detective Grace Jarrod isn’t so sure. Graffiti left at the crime scenes points to the crimes being linked and part of a rampage.

The delivery of a cryptogram to her precinct proves her theory correct. A group calling themselves CREEPZ takes credit for the deaths and for the war they wage. They promise not to stop until a societal revolution is achieved. Jarrod leads the investigation and goes after the madmen that strike at will and profess to kill for love. Little does she know that the group of homeless drifters is led by a genius who believes himself God.

Excerpt:
PROLOGUE

“It’s the things right under your nose—
the things you don’t notice
—that get you killed.”
  Detective Grace Jarrod, NYPD

The express train thundered down the subway tracks, speeding past the commuters huddled on the platform. The breeze broke the solid wall of heat, giving the crowd on the underground platform some relief from the steam bath they were caught up in.

A sigh rippled through the human herd as they edged away from the mechanical beast clearing the station. When the last car was swallowed up by the darkness of the tunnel, they eased back into position and anticipated the arrival of a local that would stop at the 72nd Street station.

In the commuters’ minds, getting home took precedence over everything, even the colorful graffiti spray painted on the tiled wall. If only they’d divined the signs right before their eyes, they could have prevented a war.

Don’t forget to visit the other stops on the tour.

Author Bio and Links:
Ruth Bainbridge was born in the idyllic, sleepy town of Ithaca, NY, and has been a lover of mysteries for her entire life. Ever since a child, she’s consumed detective stories at regular intervals, becoming enamored with all the superstars of crime. She loved matching wits with Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Thomas Pitt, Lord Peter Wimsey, Richard Jury and Edward X Delaney. In fact, she was so inspired by their brilliance that she began trying to emulate her writing idol's achievements by composing her own short stories. However, life interfered with her plans of becoming the next hopeful to try a life of crime--on paper at least. But the empty nest syndrome happened and gave her the impetus to return to her first love--murder.

Her works include: THE CURT SAVAGE MYSTERIES (a four-part series that should be read in order); DEADSPEAK, a detective Twin Peaks; and ONLY ONE WILL FALL, the first in THE NICK CROSS MYSTERIES. CREEPZ is her eighth published work. The most intense read of the season, it’s a complex adrenaline rush that’s filled with suspense.

7 Days with You VBT

Blurb
Sean Johnson’s life as a small-town farmhand has been nothing but predictable, but when he meets Sophia Hillingdon at the local animal sanctuary, she gets him out of an eighteen-year rut, away from the mundane existence on the farm, and a grieving, drunken father.

Sophia is the first person who understands him and makes him believe that he might get out of their small town, who tells him, he has the potential to be whoever he wants to be and do whatever he wants to do.

But as their relationship unfolds, it is the most devastating of news that will change both of them forever.

Excerpt:
I hadn’t been anywhere, but my mind had been everywhere. That’s how I felt that summer. Or more precisely, that’s how Sophia had made me feel by the time summer neared its conclusion. The months of July and August had followed identical patterns to June in that we rarely spent a day apart. We rode with Violet across the Suffolk countryside, sometimes for miles on end, often stopping by at local pubs. Then it would be Saturday. That was the best day of all for there was no work on Sunday, which meant dancing with Tom and Jessica until our bodies could no longer stand. We drank, we laughed, and most nights after, we made love as we tip-toed up the stairs of my father’s house. I was obsessed with everything about her. Yes, Sophia Hillingdon, the girl I’d known for barely a few months was the girl I now wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And though we often drove each other crazy, we soon laughed and made up as if nothing happened. It often puzzled me as to why Sophia found our fights so amusing seconds after we were hot from the exertion of spouting obscenities at each other. Red-faced, she’d often say, “You drive me mad Sean. But, you know something? That’s just how I like it.”

“Why?” I’d ask.

“Us,” she would say. “I love how angry you make me because…. Well, I’m obsessed with you… even our arguments sound oddly beautiful.”

What would I tell a new author?
Read as much as you can! Read, read and read. It’s an incredibly common answer, but there’s a reason writers can’t help but stress this enough. Read your favourite genres but also read stories you wouldn’t normally think twice about. Read the classics. Read non-fiction. Read anything. Writing is one of those professions that you only improve with over time.

It’s also worth asking yourself what kind of author you are. Do you want to write thrillers? If so, perhaps read 20 of them to get a feel for how they work or what you feel is missing from the genre that you could add. Or do you write stories in my genre? If so, the same process applies.

For the writing aspect itself, I’d recommend just sitting down and writing before you even entertain the idea of paying for fancy courses. The writers that do well aren’t always those who spent thousands on a creative writing course. They simply decided to write and showed a desire to improve. Stephen King’s ‘On Writing’ is a great book for aspiring fiction writers, while The Emotion Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglish is ideal for helping beginners learn the importance of showing rather than telling.

Lastly, I’d suggest asking yourself this: Will I be miserable if I don’t write for a living? If the answer is no, then don’t bother. Writing is an emotionally draining and solitary experience that requires sacrifice and commitment. You have to be prepared to develop thick skin in what is essentially a dog-eat-dog industry. It’s a lonely job, and not everyone is fully prepared for the hard-hitting realities that come from writing a novel and attempting to get an audience. You have to bleed for you craft just like any other artist would.

Flood Excerpt Tour

Blurb:
Drawn together by their love of animals, Aria DeLuca and Caleb Hawkins burn for each other. They never suspected that malignant forces were successfully plotting Caleb’s ruin from the moment he entered her life.

When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.

Exclusive Excerpt:
Lila looked into her eyes. “You weren’t the only one here the night the painkiller went missing.”

Aria gasped. “Are you saying that either Caleb, Jason, or Stan might have picked it up?”

“Yes. It makes more sense than to think you did it.”

Aria opened another cola for herself. “Oh, Lila, I don’t think so.”

“Why? Because you don’t want it to be true? I don’t either, but I think it is.”

“Lila…” What could she say? If Lila was right, smart money would be on Caleb as the thief, and that couldn’t be true. It couldn’t!

She got up and put her lab coat back on. “Forget it. I was distracted that night and half out of my mind with rage. There was a lot of dirty gauze and empty boxes around. I picked it up and threw it away by mistake. None of the guys did it.”

Lila tossed the remains of her lunch into the trashcan. “Be careful, Aria. Do you think I’m blind? I see the look on your face when you’re around Caleb. You’re falling for him. Have you admitted it to yourself yet? You’re taking the blame for the painkiller because you don’t want it to be Caleb. If it was only Jason or Stan you’d be chomping at the bit to check it out.”
