Flicker NBtM

Blurb:
My name is Catalina Franklin. And I should be dead.

When Death called my number, sending one of her Guides to take my soul, she didn't count on one thing. The Guide she sent - He was made for me, and I for him. Pulling me back from the arms of Death, Telor changed my fate - and his. Now we're left with the question of not only how he's still here, but why. Will we get the answers we need? Or will Death find us first? Only time will tell...but ours is quickly running out.

Excerpt:
Telor slipped his hand in his shirt pocket and pulled out the ring. “Here, keep this with you at all times.” I shoved it back at him. “No, you keep it.”

“Dammit, Cariad, please, take it,” he said, stopping and pulling me to a stop with him. “Humor me and let me give you the only protection I have to give you.”

“What about you? Why would I take the only protection YOU have for YOURSELF,” I asked. He was insane if he thought I was taking that ring.

“There’s no me after you, Catalina,” he yelled. This was the only time I’ve ever heard him raise his voice. “YOU are my purpose, and I will gladly tear this world apart looking for something that doesn’t exist if it will keep you safe and us together, but for now all I have is this. Please take it, and don’t fight me on it.”

“Do you really have so little faith in us?” I asked as tears threatened to leak from my eyes. He didn’t meet my eyes, and I almost thought he wouldn’t. When he finally did look at me, I wished he hadn’t. All I saw was pain.

“I have all the faith in the world in you,” he said. He didn’t say it, but I was able to read between the lines; he didn’t think that HE could do this.

“I have faith in you,” I said, trying to make him believe in himself the way I did.

“And for that, I am truly sorry,” he said with true regret.

Courtney Houston, thanks so much for stopping by. So, tell us a little about yourself.
How did you get started writing? It was a poetry contest in 5th grade that really started it. I came in second on the first one and since I like winning, I tried really hard and won the next one. Then I realized I find of enjoyed writing, even I wasn’t winning anything.

What was the inspiration for your book?
It just sort of came to me. It’s weird, it literally just popped into my head and wouldn’t go away.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to? Horror/Thriller. I love scary movies (with the lights on, during the day and with plenty of witness). It’s something I’d like to try out, even if I never publish it.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I’ll really read almost anything. I used to think I didn’t like historical fiction, until I read some and realized I loved it. I don’t think I would ever write erotica (though I do read it from time to time). I just can’t ever imagine myself writing that. Who knows though, I could eat my words in a few years.

What are you up to right now? Do you have any releases planned, or are you still writing?
I am working on getting Conjure finalized and setting a release date for that. I’m also working on a coming of age novel titled Paper Dolls. Paper Dolls was inspired by the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman.

Alright, now for some totally random questions. Favorite color?
Red.

Favorite movie?
The Prestige.

Book that inspired you to become an author?
There wasn’t one really, but if I could pick an author that I hope to be like one day, it would be Amy Bartol.

You have one superpower. What is it?
Flying.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Professor Snape, Princess Diana and Alexander Barrington.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
There are little bits of me in every character. Hmmm… I have to pick one... You haven’t met her yet, but I think I’m most like Mari from Paper Dolls. There’s something about her that makes me feel really close to her.

  1. Would you rather trade intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence?

    1. Looks for intelligence. You can get so much farther with your brain than you ever could with your looks. Eventually, your looks with fade. You brain will be around for longer.
