Birthday Bash Day 24 - Liz Borino

Liz, thanks so much for stopping by. So, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Liz: Thanks for having me. I’m in a constant whirlwind of day job (editing), grad school, and writing. When I make time for fun, I like to visit big cities, NYC and London have been my favorite so far. They have a great culture. Actually, they have many cultures, which is great for my muse.

How did you get started writing?
Liz: I’ve been writing since I was eleven as a way to get the stories going on in my head out. The characters could either make me crazy, or a writer. No one pays you for being crazy. Then again, they don’t pay you much to be a writer, but your odds are better.

So how long does it take for you to go from idea to published story?
Liz: That depends as much on my publisher’s schedule as anything. If I have ample writing time, I can finish the first draft in six weeks, time for edits is based on how well that first draft went, generally six to eight weeks. And that’s before the publisher gets it. Then their editor makes suggestions, which get integrated into the manuscript

I love the Mine series. What were your reasons for choosing Hollywood?
Liz: I’ve always been fascinated by the media scrutiny of celebrities. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t read the rag mags or even know half of the ‘most famous’ actors. I’m more interested in how these people sustain relationships, and sanity, with the 24/7 news cycle broadcasting their every move. Add to hiding kink that pressure, and I thought it was an interesting springboard for a series. I’m happy you do, too.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
Liz: This question is difficult for me because I generally write in the genres I want to. My publisher gives me a lot of freedom in that regard. I will say I would like to get better at M/F writing.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
Liz: Anything with non-consent. If it’s used in BDSM, then I need a scene in the beginning where this preference is agreed upon by most members of the couple, then I can read it. But I would really struggle to write it.

So, what are you working on right now? Got any releases planned, or still writing?
Liz: The next book in the Director’s Cut series, Double Exposure, will be out in July.

Alright, one last question. Do you have a favorite memory from your 21st birthday?
Liz: I almost feel like I should make something up, but I really didn’t do much of anything on my 21st birthday. I’m not much of a drinker, probably because I’m tipsy after a glass of wine, so my boyfriend at the time and I went to Applebee’s at midnight to get some drink which was the size of a fishbowl. Then we went home, and fell asleep. Wild, right? My characters have all the fun. How much fun? Check out Behind the Scenes, my new release with Michelle Stevens, out today! New beginnings are exciting, but we can rarely outrun our pasts. Steve Michaels and Zack Greene pack up their newly extended family and move to New York City with their nanny, Drew, and his two kids. Having recently been hired to write for a BDSM show, Steve and Zack use their loving Dom/sub relationship for some experience with the lifestyle, but they need a consultant to fill in the blanks. Alex, a local Dom/club owner, can do just that. Everything is going smoothly until Rich, a ex-producer from Ben’s Life and the man who tried to ruin Zack, tries to get a job on the same show. And that’s only the beginning of it.

Zack and Steve offered Drew an opportunity of a lifetime working for them. When Alex shows up for the first meeting with Zack and Steve, Drew realizes he didn’t leave his past behind after all. This becomes more true when his ex comes back wanting to see the kids.

Can Drew trust Alex to help him get over his past? Can Steve manage to keep Zack safe from the man who has haunted him for so long? Find out what happens Behind the Scenes!

Liz is giving away one ebook copy of Behind the Scenes. To enter, leave a comment with your email address. Contest ends May 7.

Author Bio:

Liz Borino lives behind her computer screen, currently stationed in some irrelevant small town in Pennsylvania. When she leaves her computer, Liz loves to spend time in cities around the world, particularly New York and London.

She’s the quiet one with Snapple or green tea, at the local Starbucks, until someone threatens human rights within her earshot. Should you be around when that happens, take a step back and wait for the storm to pass. Her two pet causes are women and gay rights. Why? Because contrary to popular opinion, and current legislation, they’re people, too.

Liz believes her best training in the craft of fiction came from her Public Relations undergraduate degree. Now, when she isn’t writing or editing, she’s pursuing a master’s in English.
