Birthday Bash Day 16 - Jennifer Wright

Jennifer, thanks so much for stopping by. So, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
I am an author of erotic romance - published with Total-E-Bound. I love m/m romance, both reading and writing - I mean seriously, what's better than a sexy man...two sexy men! You can't go wrong there. ;)
Though I do dabble in a little bit of m/f romance, my main passion will always be smutting it up with men, men, and more men!

How did you get started writing?
I've always had a very active imagination. I can spend days creating a story in my mind, playing it out word for word like a movie for my own personal entertainment. When I was younger I tried dabbling in writing, but it faded away. Then, a few years ago, one of my ‘daydreams’ moved me so much that I decided to put it down on paper. I’ve always read the ‘About the Author’ in the back of books and I thought to myself, ‘If they can do it, then maybe I can too.’ My passion for writing took off again with a new surge and I've never been happier or had more fun.

So, why vampires?
I love them – I always have. Ever since Christopher Pike’s The Last Vampire series, and then soon after Ann Rice’s Interview With The Vampire (which I read at way too young of age, lol!), I have been drawn
to the mysterious dark side of the fanged species. If there was a vampire book or movie (decent ones, anyway) then I sought them out and read and re-read and watched and re-watched them countless times.

So how did you come up with the world of Pavarus?
Honestly, I don’t really know how to answer this question. It just kind of came to me one day. I’ve always disliked doing research for my books, and I’ve always thought making up my own info would be easier, but the actual idea for creating Pavarus – yeah, I don’t really know. I sound stupid for not knowing how an entire 5 book series came to me, not knowing what sparked the idea - all I can say is that it just did.

I have to say, I love the language you’ve created for this world. How did you create it? Was it difficult?
I think banging my head against my desk was involved with making up the langue, names of people, names of countries, etc. I wanted most of it to be my own, yet make it something that could be sounded out by a reader. It needed to roll off the tongue, be complex and simple all at the same time.
Every time I thought of a name or phrase I Googled it to see if it already existed. Some did, and I had to start back at square one. Some are unique, long forgotten names from other origins.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
I’d love to try my hand at Regency – the only problem is, while I may love reading it, I really know very little about it. It would take a lot of research, but maybe someday I can find the time to increase my knowledge of that era.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?

I’ve never been the biggest fan of ménages. I know this sounds really strange, but I can’t help but feel like they’re all cheating on each other. Though, for all I know, the very few books that I’ve read were bad examples of what love could be like between three people.

So, what are you working on right now? Got any releases planned, or still writing?
Unfortunately, I don’t have any releases coming out soon. Pretty much for the past 6 months my personal life has taken a turn to where it consumes almost all of my writing time. But, with what little time I do get, I try to dedicate it to finishing the last 3 books of my Finding Home Series. I am determined to have the last 3 books handed in by the end of the year at the latest. On my blog, under my WIP page, you can see all that I have planned out.

Alright, one last question. Do you have a favorite memory from your 21st birthday?
The whole night was an awesome time. The bar may have made the worst rum and Cokes ever (seriously, how do you mess that up?), but the best part had to be that I spent it with my sister. Lots of dancing, lots of drinking, and lots of flirting with hot guys – it was a blast!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!
Thank you for having me, and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! :)

Keddrick has denied claiming his mate for four years, separating them by worlds just to keep the man he loves safe…from him. Can he resist temptation when his love lands on his doorstep in need of help?

Eli has lusted after Keddrick from the moment the vampire stepped through the portal and into Earth. He had desperately wanted to follow along when Keddrick returned to Pavarus, but it wasn’t allowed—not to mention Eli was under the impression that Keddrick was straight. Four years later his wish has come true, but not in the way he wanted. Barely escaping death by the hands of Wayland, head of the human council on Earth, Eli flees to Pavarus in search of help. The line of events that get him there release a hidden secret deep inside him he never knew existed, and will soon change his life forever.

Keddrick’s restraint towards Eli is being seriously tested, and every day Eli stays with him at the coven, it gets harder. He wants to keep his distance, but at the same time he wants to do everything he can to please Eli. As time goes on, he feels his resolve slowly crumble, his love for the man too strong to ignore. When Keddrick finds out about Wayland’s threat on his and Eli’s life, he is determined to stop the madman anyway he can, even if that means going against Eli’s pleas for him not to.

Through blood and tears, years of love and moments of betrayal, can these two men find their way through the hardships and into a life of happiness in each other’s arms?

Excerpt (R):
Slamming the door behind him, Keddrick glared at him. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
Eli’s demeanour immediately went on the defensive. “I have the right to be here. This is my fight, too.”
Keddrick closed the distance between them, stepping into Eli’s personal space. “We already discussed this. You were to stay on Pavarus,” he growled.
“No, we didn’t really discuss anything. You took my necklace and told me I was staying there.”
“And you agreed.”
Eli shook his head. “No, I never agreed. But I did fall for your seduction in making me think I should stay behind.”
“It was never a ploy, make no mistake about that. I was sincere with everything I said, and I thought you had agreed.” When Eli opened his mouth to speak, Keddrick quickly said, “I mean agreeing about staying behind, not that you didn’t belong here.” Keddrick took a step back and rubbed his hand over his head. “Damn it, Eli, how the hell is it that we’re even having this conversation?”
His mate squared his shoulders. “Short or long version?”
Keddrick let out a tired sigh. “Short.”
“I was pissed off that I was still on Pavarus and not here, so I broke into the room where you kept my necklace, took it, made my way to the portal, went through it and amazingly found it empty, and then came here. I broke in through the roof. You know, for how many locks you have on the front and back doors, you really should have thought about the roof entrance as well.”
Keddrick pinched the bridge of his nose, trying his hardest to stave off the headache that was threatening to surface. “And Wesley?”
“I want you to know that he constantly tried to talk me out of it the whole time, but ultimately he decided that he didn’t want me to go alone, so he tagged along.”
Keddrick couldn’t help but chuckle. “Tagged along,” he repeated quietly to himself.
Gods, his mate threw obstacles at him every step of the way. He’d fought Keddrick tooth and nail the entire time, never listening to what Keddrick told him to do, or what was best for him. No, Eli had to stand proud and fight for what he felt was right—even if Keddrick didn’t want him to.
Closing his eyes, he pinched the bridge of his nose again. “You wasted your time coming here. I’m not going to let you—”
Eli cut Keddrick off by pushing him into the nearest wall. Damn, he couldn’t believe how easily he’d forgotten how strong his mate was.
“You don’t get to make that decision,” Eli snarled.
Keddrick felt his cock stir in his pants. Sure, Eli had stood up to him before, but this was different, this was a determination Keddrick had never seen before, and it fucking turned him on.
He knew Eli had caught the lust in his eyes when his mate said, “Don’t even think about it.”
Too late. Pissed off or not, Keddrick had missed his mate too much, and with this new, erotic side of Eli, Keddrick couldn’t resist.
He spun them around and pressed Eli against the wall, crushing their mouths together. Eli fought him for barely a second before he was groaning and kissing him back. Grabbing his hips, Keddrick pulled Eli closer to him and ground their erections together. All his pent-up desire was being released at once. He grabbed the hem of Eli’s shirt then yanked it over his mate’s head. Instantly, he leant down and lapped his tongue around one taut nipple. His mate gasped and held Keddrick’s head to his chest, a deep moan escaping as his back arched off the wall. Undoing the tie of Eli’s pants, Keddrick was about to pull them down when Eli cupped his chin and forced him to stand up straight again.
Taking him by his shirtfront, Eli spun them around and pressed Keddrick against the wall once more. His mate wasted no time ridding him of his own shirt. Trailing his hands down Keddrick’s bare chest, Eli followed his exploration with kisses. Hurriedly working at the button to his jeans, Eli licked and nibbled at Keddrick’s nipples. With his pants unbuttoned, unzipped, and now down around his knees, Keddrick let out a deep groan as Eli ran his tongue over the trail of hairs that led to his groin. He threaded his hands in his lover’s hair when Eli nuzzled the thatch of dark curls that surrounded his cock. Keddrick hissed as Eli rubbed his cheek up his length, the stubble along his jaw a pleasure-pain that had pre-cum leaking from the tip of Keddrick’s dick. Agonisingly slowly, Eli lapped at the head, humming his approval as he teased Keddrick.
Unable to take it any longer, Keddrick gripped harder at his mate’s
hair. “Fuck, Eli, stop teasing me.” He licked his lips and looked down at his lover. Lust-filled eyes stared up at him. Dear gods, my mate is beautiful. Hunger flared inside him, making his cock jump against Eli’s lips as he kissed the mushroom-shaped head. Grabbing his dick at the base, Keddrick pressed the head harder against his lover’s mouth. “Open,” he demanded.
Eli’s eyes widened, but he gladly parted his lips and swallowed every last inch Keddrick fed him. Keddrick squeezed his eyes shut and rested his head back against the wall as Eli lavished his cock with enthusiasm. He felt his balls start to pull up, desperate to empty themselves into his lover’s mouth.
“Oh fuck, Eli, just like that.” Keddrick looked down at his mate, almost coming at the sight of those puffy red lips wrapped around his dick. Letting go of Eli’s hair, he traced his fingertips over Eli’s hollowed out cheeks as the man sucked harder when he pulled back, his tongue then doing a tantalising dance over the tip before he swallowed Keddrick back down.
Head thrown back, hips moving of their own accord, Keddrick was ready to grunt out his release when cold air suddenly surrounded his dick instead of the warmth of his lover’s mouth. Head spinning, he stumbled forward a little, only to have Eli put his hand on his chest to steady him.
Confused, he asked, “What the hell?” Any possible irritation quickly dried up as he watched his mate toe off his boots then push his pants down. The sinewy muscles of Eli’s thighs flexed as he stepped out of his pants. Keddrick took that moment to appreciate the structure of his mate. Keddrick raked his gaze over the ripples of his lover’s abs, enjoying how they flexed. Those strong arms never failed to turn him on. Just the thought of how the muscles of Eli’s back undulated under his touch had more pre-cum leaking from the tip of his dick. His mate was an Adonis.
With a quick look around, Eli smiled as he met Keddrick’s gaze. Backing up slowly, Eli beckoned Keddrick to follow. Seeing that his lover was heading towards the couch had him eagerly doing as instructed. The damn thing was uncomfortable as hell, but any flat surface where he could take his mate was good enough for him.

In dedication to the wonderful celebration, I (Jennifer) would like to give away a copy of my most recent release, Morvea: Finding Home Series book 2, to one luck commenter. Just tell me what your favorite genre of romance is and you’ll be entered in to win. Be sure to leave your email address in the body of the comment so I know where to send the book to. ;) A winner will be chosen on Thursday 18th using random.org.

I was born in Arizona, but have spent the better part of my life in Wisconsin.  While I enjoy living close to my family, my heart longs to live in the South – or anywhere where the winters are warmer, and I hope to someday get there.  I love writing, and try to dedicate as much of my free time to it (ha! what free time?).  If I’m not typing away on my laptop, you’ll find me with my nose buried in a book, or with my loving boyfriend debating on what movie to watch and the never ending back and forth decision of what we should have for dinner.  I love spending time with my family and boyfriend, cuddling with my two cats, and laughing as much as possible (cuz I like to think I'm funny :D).

  4. Im ruling myself out of the draw as well, I've read and loved both books in the Finding Home series, eagerly await book #3. My 21st was so long ago I have a hard time remembering it - or maybe that was due to the alcohol consumption! Great interview.
    Happy Birthday Emily.

  6. I'm out of the running too. As memory serves me and I'm not so sure about that anymore, I believe I was expecting my second child on my twenty-first b'day, so cocktails were out. I do recall being with my family and eating cake that my grandmother made for me complete with a 21 cake topper.

Continued success with the Finding Home Series, Jen, yeah, and who screws up rum and Coke?
    Happy B'day, Emily
