The Demise NBtM

Blurb:
Elizabeth Woods and Ian Sweeten had a romance which sparked over a few months. Marriage followed, and with it the couple traveled around the world as he served in the military. After Ian’s deployment, overseas, their young love deepened into something more but with life comes complications, and what Elizabeth comes to realize is that her husband is battling his own demons. Mind games, deceit and abuse become part of the ways Ian seeks to control her. As she struggles to repair her marriage and get back to the love they shared early in their relationship, Elizabeth realizes that holding on to the man she loves may come at a price too high to pay.

Excerpt:
“How are you feeling today?” Dr. Carter asked.

“Antsy,” I told her. I’d brought a bottle of water and took a sip. It helped my throat at least. “I was thinking about what I wanted to say to you on my way here, and it just occurred to me there are some parts of my relationship with Ian that are just as painful as when they happened back then. What happened to the old adage about time healing all wounds? I should be past all this by now.”

Dr. Carter shook her head. “We all heal differently. But in my experience, time heals little if anything. It all depends on how much work you get done in the meantime. And that’s what you’re here for, so you’re moving in the right direction.”

 “You tell everyone that?”

She cracked a smile.  Dr. Carter struck me as a motherly woman. She was in her early forties, by my guess. “I do find myself saying it often,” Dr. Carter admitted. “A lot of people struggle with this idea that they should be further ahead in their emotional healing than they actually are. We give people the idea there’s this prescribed amount of time to be over mourning, and after that amount of time it’s somehow wrong to feel anything about it.”

 “Mourning?” I asked.

“Yes,” she said. “You’re mourning the demise of your marriage.”

I thought for a moment before answering. “I never looked at it that way.”

How did you get started writing?
I have always loved putting words to paper since I can remember.

What was the inspiration for your book?
I needed an outlet to express how I was feeling. I was hurting and when I started writing the pain left as the words formed onto the paper.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
This is my first novel I have written, so I would say almost all genres are still open for me to explore and write in.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I honestly have never gotten into sci fi books. Not saying there are not any out there that I would not love but I have never really had an interest in them.

What are you up to right now? Do you have any releases planned, or are you still writing?
For adult novels, no I am not writing any at the moment. I do have plans however to write another children’s book. I have two children book ideas right now that I am focusing on.

Alright, now for some totally random, fun questions. Favorite color?
I love blue and purple for my favorite colors.

Favorite movie?
For my favorite movie, I would have to say The Other Boleyn Girl. It’s an older movie but I never get tired of watching it.

Book that inspired you to become an author?
I wouldn’t say any particular book inspired me to become a writer but I will say for authors, I admire Stephen King for my more serious side of writing and Dr. Seuss for my younger side of writing.

You have one superpower. What is it?
Time travel, I would love to be able to travel into the past and the future. To me that would be the greatest superpower of all time.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
My dad died when I was three so I would have to choose him just to get to see him one more time and then I would choose Ian Somerhalder because he is just so darn sexy! And lastly, I would choose Abraham Lincoln because he is from my home state of Springfield, IL and because I have also been intrigued about his life.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
Well that’s an obvious answer since my book is somewhat based off my 10-year marriage, so I am going to say I mostly relate to Elizabeth in my book.
