All In NBtM

Blurb:
Jay Markham, a wildly popular actor and a chronic womanizer, has become bored with his life. Jay decides to take a break and goes to visit his life-long best friend and famous romance novelist, Anthony Tate. But just because Jay decides to take a break doesn’t mean his fans will let him. The fans and the paparazzi follow him to the small Washington town and, in an effort to escape a particularly dogged fan, Jay ducks into the first open door he can find.

Parker Hardisson is a fairly normal, if self-contained, woman in her, ahem, early thirties. Relatively happy with her life as a freelance translator, she gets to work out of her own home and enjoy her life as quiet and drama-free as possible. So what if she’s a teensy bit lonely? So what if there’s some part of her that wants to explore the world? Things are working out just fine. So, when a mega-movie star comes slamming into her house, she wonders if she’s finally cracked.

Parker seizes the opportunity to make the deal of a lifetime. No strings, no questions. The problem is, Jay is playing this game by his own rules.

Excerpt:
It was possibly nine in the morning the next day before Abby barged into Parker’s house. To be fair, Abby had used her key which Jay must have given back to her, but it was as close to barging as one might get, all things considered. Parker was barely awake.

“Parker? Are you home?”

“Where else would I be?” Parker tried to sound pleasant, but at best she knew she sounded grouchy as she called out to Abby.

“I don’t know, having wild sex with Jay in Los Angeles?” Abby walked into the kitchen as Parker was focusing on pouring coffee grinds into her espresso machine. Parker graced her with a snort as an answer. “Well, you could be.”

“I don’t know what that overgrown pretty boy told you, but I am not going to Los Angeles.”

“I’ll wait till you’ve had your coffee.” Abby grabbed her own cup and patiently sat on one of the bar stools under her kitchen island. Parker tried not to remember exactly what had been done on that particular counter while also trying to remember if she’d sanitized the thing since the sex marathon had started.

“Coffee won’t change my answer.”

“Might make you more talkative though.”

“Or more able to kill without getting caught.”

“I’ll take the chance.” Abby grinned at her and Parker sighed.

Autumn Stark, thanks so much for stopping by. So, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! Thank you for having me. I’m thrilled to be talking with you and your readers. All In is the second book in my In Plain Sight series and one of my favorites so far. Jay is pretty popular all by himself (and not just with me)! Jay and Parker’s story is the second in my debut series as Autumn Stark, but I also write Paranormal romance as April Oglesbee. When I’m not writing, I wear several hats (and enjoy them all). I’m a co-owner of Books With Benefits Press, an English Instructor, and a pet-wrangler (I have two dogs and a cat who thoroughly believe they are human).

How did you get started writing?
I’ve written my whole life for myself and friends, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I really started to try writing as a profession. I have a Master’s degree in English and a healthy appreciation of pop culture, so, at some point, it was just a natural evolution to begin writing my own stories. Too, my friends were getting tired of hearing my lengthy “What Ifs.” Now they can read them.

What was the inspiration for your book?
All In is the second book in the In Plain Sight series, but the inspiration for this particular story was born out of the desire to see a story about two people who knew exactly what they wanted, but weren’t sure how to go about getting it. The great thing about Jay is that he’s just a wealth of material. He’s an actor and seeming playboy. He should be that guy who doesn’t want anything from anyone. He doesn’t really until he meets Parker. Parker is independent and happy that way. She’s a bit of a social recluse. She’s happy to live in her small world. So naturally I had to throw them at each other and see what would happen when they crashed into each other.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
I’d like to write Young/New Adult. I write Paranormal as April Oglesbee, but I have yet to publish in Young/New Adult. Something is, of course, in the works.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I’m not sure I’ve come across one yet. I’m pretty sure I’ll never write Inspirational Romance though I do have a great respect for it and sometimes even enjoy reading them. What can I say? My mind’s a little too tuned in to the “dirty” side of life.

So, what are you working on right now? Got any releases planned, or still writing?
Currently, I’m working on the fourth book in the In Plain Sight Series, Woman On Top (Nicky’s story). I’m also still writing the fifth and final book in the series, Catch Me (Gabe’s story). Woman on Top should be released the end of June/beginning of July and Catch Me will be coming out the end of this summer.

Alright, now for some totally random, fun questions. Favorite color?   Red. I know. But it’s true. I just love its vibrancy.

Favorite movie?
Underworld--come on...I, for one, wish I could wear that awesome leather outfit and bust out my ninja-like warrior skills. Oh, yeah, and fall in love with a smokin‘ hot werewolf hybrid dude.

Book that inspired you to become an author?
Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Truly I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid. I was pretty obsessed with books in my childhood (who am I kidding; I still am). In terms of becoming a romance writer though, I would have to say Judith McNaught’s Until You. It was fantastically complex, romantic, and engaging all at the same time. Plus, the hero was a total jackass for a while and I love seeing the reformation of a rake.

Alright, you have one superpower. What is it?
To heal people with my touch. I was a big fan of X-Men when I was younger and I always thought Rogue was pretty cool. Clearly it was a prison sentence in a way, but my mind always ran wild--what if she could pull the illness or pain from people and not just their energy or powers? Plus...if I had a Wolverine around, I wouldn’t have to worry too much about the terminal aspect of it. Help people and have a hot guy. Win-Win.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Ooooh, this is such a good question. Well, I think I’d have to assume this is a once in a lifetime chance, so I’d apologize to my friends and family later and go full-out fantasy dinner. I’d have dinner with Sakurai Sho, Nia Vardalos, and Peeta Mellark.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
I would have to say I’m a lot like Abby, Parker’s best friend. Abby is always looking to keep the peace and keep her family, self-made and otherwise, close. If she needs to, she can lay down the law, but more often than not, she’s happy to do what she does best--take care of the people she cares about. She worries and she questions herself. Sometimes she makes decisions on instinct more than logic. Also, Abby’s simple and cool exterior very neatly hides a complex and passionate interior. ;)
