Forever Faithful NBtM

Blurb:
Forever Faithful is the sequel to the award winning book "Always Faithful." "Always Faithful" is about a Marine officer, Nic Caldwell, who’s has the unenviable task of informing families that their loved one is either missing, or has been killed. She is assigned task of making a notification of death to the wife of a former college friend. During the process of bringing Mike Monroe home, a series of events unfold that bring Claire Monroe and Nic Caldwell closer and through those events they fall in love. Nic isn’t without her own demons, having survived a helicopter crash that killed her entire crew in Iraq and leaving her to fight for her own life. Survivor’s guilt has nothing on Nic.

"Forever Faithful" brings Nic and Claire back facing a deployment after Nic graduates from a military university in California. She finds herself in Afghanistan and the victim of another accident that leaves one of her peers dead and Nic fighting for her life. Nic is faced with injuries that leave her questioning whether she can be the woman she once was in Claire’s eyes. What unfolds is a story of survival, love and acceptance as both women face the journey a head.

Excerpt:
Claire sat on the bed, cradling her daughter close. What would she do when she was chasing boys for all the wrong reasons? Trying to banish the thought from her mind, she clutched Grace closer, laying her head on her chest. She felt Grace relax against her, the fight gone.

“Mommy?”

“Hmm?”

“Why do I have two mommies and Tim only has one?”

Aw, the looming realization that her parents were different. She knew it was coming, but Claire didn’t expect it quite yet. “Cause you’re lucky.”

God, what a stupid answer, she thought, pulling Grace closer. Gently she laid Grace down on the bed and lay beside her, threading her fingers through sweaty hair, pushing the unruly mess out of Grace’s face.

“Can we find Tim another mom?”

“What?” She had to stop herself from giggling at the notion that Tim needed another mom. What would Tim’s dad say?

“Yeah, he needs another mom, too.”

“It’s not that easy honey.”

“But you have Nic and you love each other, so Tim’s mom needs another mommy to love her, too.”

Oh, the innocence of youth. If life were only that simple.

Isabella, thanks so much for stopping by. So, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
I write under the pen name Isabella. I teach computer science at a college on the central coast of California. I ride a motorcycle, like to people watch (which comes in handy for writing), and I run a publishing company, Sapphire Books Publishing. We have 19 authors who write in all different genres, with lesbians as the main characters.

How did you start writing?
I had submitted my first manuscript to two publishers and was rejected by both. One said they weren’t looking for my type of story at that time. The other company wanted me to completely rewrite the story and resubmit. I thought long and hard about rewriting it and after talking to my wife, I decided that I’d try and publish it myself. I researched self-publishing, looked at all the options and decided to start a publishing company and publish my first book, Always Faithful. It was the first in the Faithful series, and the precursor for Forever Faithful, my latest release.

What was the inspiration for your book?
Forever Faithful is the second in the Faithful series. This book was partially based on my experience as a military wife and includes some of the people I met along the way. I wanted to focus on the family side of things in this book. Nic Caldwell is a Marine who is being deployed again, but this time to Afghanistan. Her wife, Clare, is left behind to wonder if Nic will meet the same fate as her first spouse who died in Iraq. Nic comes pretty close to fulfilling that concern. In a nutshell, it’s a book about surviving a deployment, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how love conquers all.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
I haven’t written a western yet, and I would love to tackle that genre. I love the feel of a western, the language, the settings, and the characters found in a truly good western.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I’m not much for world building, so dystopian is out for me. Fade to black also isn’t something you’d find in my books. Not that I don’t like books that have fade to black, but if there is the buildup of sexual tension I like to see the characters close the deal.

So, what are you working on right now? Have any other releases for the near future, or are you still writing?
I am working on a mystery titled Time Stamped. It focuses on the aftermath of a brutal attack that completely strips down one of the main characters to her core. She realizes that she’s not really living the life she’d planned. She’s sacrificed a piece of herself to be what someone else wanted. After the attack she comes face-to-face with the realization that she was not a victim of chance, but of opportunity. The ending is a twist that I don’t think the reader will see coming.

Alright, now for some totally random, fun questions. Favorite color?
Sapphire blue

Favorite movie?
All of the Underworld and Matrix movies. They both have strong female leads who kick butt. Their dialogue is gritty, and they’re movies that have no basis in reality.

Alright, you have one superpower. What is it?
Immortality. That’s a super power right?

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
My grandmother, Amelia Earhart, and Cleopatra. I love strong women.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
I think I’m most like Luce Potter in American Yakuza. We have some similar traits but vastly different looks. She is tenacious, has a strong sense of integrity, and seldom shows all her cards in any situation. Business is business and she knows what she needs to do to secure her future. She’s a go-getter and doesn’t take no for an answer. She lives life and doesn’t let it live her.

Battle Cry Review Tour

Blurb:
Survival demands sacrifice. Healing requires forgiveness.

After losing her lover and then her mate, Victoria Storm builds a new life in Sierra Pines, California. When the Norse Fates predict the she-wolf will destroy the world to save her unborn child, her duties as Freya’s priestess conflict with her responsibilities as Odin’s Valkyrie.

Sawyer Barrett has hunted Victoria so passionately, he doesn't know whether he loves or hates her. Desperate to end the fighting, he will take chances with everything—except his heart. This hunter harbors a deadly secret he can't reveal without risking the tentative ceasefire and his father’s continued disapproval.

Men revere him; monsters fear him. Jake Barrett—the notorious Hunter King—values loyalty to family above all else. When he believes his eldest son was murdered by a wolf ally, he releases a chain reaction of violent destruction that claims the lives of both wolves and hunters.

An ancient vampire plots the destruction of wolves and hunters alike. If the embittered rivalry doesn't end quickly, there is no hope for the Hunters, Victoria's pack, or the mortal world.

Excerpt:
Shadows enshrouded Skuld, and her voice manifested upon the air, thick and oppressive, closing in from all sides. "Your daughter will not grow to adulthood in Midgard."

Victoria's heart slammed against her breastbone. Her breath expelled in a horrified gust. The bowl dropped from her hands which flew to protect her abdomen. "What do you mean?"

"Your daughter will be taken from you on the eve of her third birthday," Skuld said. "The one you trust most, a member of your own pack, will give the child over to your greatest enemy."

A growl trembled in Victoria's throat, and her entire body shook under the dual assault of fear and rage. The suggestion of betrayal from within her own pack filled her with disbelief to the core of her being. It was unthinkable. Gritting her teeth, she sought a solution, refusing to dwell on it. "How am I to prevent this?"

"We speak of what will come to pass," Verðandi said in a sympathetic tone.

"Your predictions are not carved in stone," Victoria said. Arguing with Fate was a foolish endeavor, but she refused to accept their prophecy.

The old woman, Urðr, smiled with a frightening gleam in her eyes. "Predictions, carved into the trunk of the World Tree, carved into the spiritual fabric of the world."

Stubborn determination settled over Victoria like armor. Her mother had taught her there was no absolute fate, just as there was no absolute free will. Life consisted of a wide range of possibilities between the two extremes. She refused to allow her daughter to die at three years of age. She would move worlds, alter fate, slay gods.

Whatever it took.

"Do you wish to save your child?" Skuld asked.

Victoria answered without thought. "Yes. I'll do anything. Tell me. Please."

"The final days are upon us," Verðandi said.

Skuld took over speaking. "To save your daughter, you will side with Loki against the Aesir. You will use your enchanted dagger to cut the binding of the great wolf Fenrir. You will be responsible for freeing the beast that kills Odin."

Victoria's stomach turned. Her head shook in automatic denial. "When the gods imprisoned Fenrir, my people pledged fealty to the Aesir. We have served them loyally ever since. Even when we were driven from the homeland, almost a millennium ago, we remained faithful. I will never cut Fenrir's bonds. To do so would end the world we live in and doom us all."

Skuld's gaze held steady. "You will."

Victoria snarled her denial. "No. I will never become the servant of the Trickster or willingly take part in bringing about Odin's death."

Skuld turned her head and pinned Victoria with one black eye that rolled in its socket like a liquid marble. "To save your daughter, you will."

My Review:
4 stars

Being a fan of mythology in general, once I saw the words Loki, Valkyrie priestess and wolf shifter, I knew I had to read Battle Cry. I figured it would either be a book I loved, or a book I hated. It was the former.

At first, I had a hard time getting into the book. Part of it was the writing style, and the other part was due to the fact that while this is a standalone book, it is also the second in the series. I felt like I was missing important information throughout parts of the book. Plus, it took me a while to sort all the different people, rivalries and such out, which I think would have been much easier had I read book 1.

However, this did not deter my enjoyment of the book. Once I made it past the first few chapters, I was drawn in to this interesting world, both familiar yet different than the mythology I know. I wasn’t sure the author would be able to blend all these various elements (paranormal, fantasy, mythology, etc.) successfully, but I was very pleased with the result. The story flowed, the imagery was described in vivid detail, and the characters were three dimensional and entertaining.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I cannot wait to read the other books in this series in order to learn not only what happened before this book, but what’s to come as well.

Talisma Book Blast

Blurb:
Thrilling fantasy, dramatic twists and a stirring love story!

Why did Kaja – a bearer of good fortune – suddenly run out of luck? Shadow creatures lurk in the dark, one misfortune leads to the next, and her fear of being claimed by the aristocrats increases by the hour. Furthermore, she is torn between her seaman and the wild wood wanderer, before whom all warn…

Can she escape her superior opponents? And how will her heart decide?

Excerpt:
Before the midday heat sent Donn’s residents retreating to their homes, she was almost sold out and Kaja hummed to herself as she packed up the leftover goods. Just as she stowed the last honey jars, she discovered two stalls further, in front of Salina the tailor, a tall man with pitch-black, wild hair standing on end. He was barefoot, and wore dark suede pants and a fur bag over the shoulder. A wood wanderer!

Kaja knew she’d better look away – her father had ingrained it in her thoroughly. “Never speak to a wood wanderer!” he had always warned. “Do not look to them and keep your distance! They are dangerous!”

However, she couldn’t pull her gaze away from the stranger. Dangerous? Might be. But fascinating! And besides, she couldn’t leave Salina alone with one of the dangerous forest dwellers! Now he turned his head to her and held midway in the movement. She wouldn’t be deterred! Defiantly, she lifted her chin, took a few steps toward him and held his gaze. Were those gold spots in his deep brown eyes? His mouth twisted into a grin. His teeth were not in the least black and putrid, as it was always said!

She had almost reached him, as a tumult arose.

“A wood wanderer!” someone yelled. “Arrest him!” and, “Guards!”

The savage looked around. Before him was the market stand on his left, and from the middle of the market guards came through the crowd. The only possible way led past Kaja. He gave her an appraising look and sprinted in her direction. In passing by he touched her arm and a huge energy shock flashed through her. If the sky hadn’t been clear and free of clouds, she would have sworn she’d been struck by lightning! By the gods, how was that possible?

One Night in Dublin - Review

Visit this post to read an excerpt and to enter the giveaway to win A Piece of Ireland: A real plot of land in Ireland, as part of a land preservation scheme in the West Cork Gaeltacht.

My Review:
4.5 stars

First off, I have to say…this definitely brought out the Irish in me. One Night in Dublin was a short, light, fun read that cracked me up. I don’t usually enjoy reading about one night stands (they tend to turn into clichés or into ridiculous, implausible results), so I was a bit wary when picking OND up. I admit, the fact that it was set in Ireland helped convince me, though I wasn’t expecting the amount of Irish culture and…character the author included. I went in thinking the author would just use Ireland as a passport stamp, yet she took the time to really add that aspect into her story, which definitely made me enjoy it more. I also liked how the portrayal of Sive’s one night stand didn’t turn into a total cliché. However, it was the humor and witty dialogues that really sold it for me. I could hear the characters talking in my head, it was so realistic and natural, and I absolutely loved it. And to top all this off, the plot twists alone…well, I won’t spoil them here. All I have to say is, give this a read. It’s a fun read, and very much worth the time and money.

Dragon Kisses Series NBtM

Blurbs:
Dragon Kisses #1 (Cassie and Niall)

Waking up in a strange barn was just the tip of the iceberg. Cassie and Niall find themselves transported to another world, one full of dragon shifters who want to possess them. Cassie is claimed by Illion, an electric blue dragon who shifts into five hulking men, and Niall is claimed by Wynn, a lime green dragon who shifts into two men and two women.

The Zmaj feed from the sexual energy of humans, and finding a cache of five in an abandoned barn is a momentous occasion. Convincing them to stay and protecting them from the Inamanida, their sworn enemy, is another task altogether. And falling in love? Zmaj don’t do that.

When Cassie runs away, Illion is forced to confront his prejudices and his brethren in order to save her from a fate worse than death.

Warnings: MMMFF, MMFMMM, light bondage, dominant dragon shifters

Dragon Kisses #2 (Arabella and Jonathan)

Waking with no memory, Arabella finds herself courted by three men claiming to be her mates. Dragon shifters Tobin, Gerrit, and Blakely woo her with sweet words and deeds, convincing her that she’s always lived this fairy tale existence. Life is perfect until the Inamanida King decides the experiment has gone on long enough—and Tobin is ordered to turn Arabella over to be tortured and used by the entire clan.

Meanwhile Jonathan is working to help settle the humans in Zmaj’s outer city. As the son of a prominent human leader, finds himself thrust into a leadership role and having to liaise with creatures he was raised to fear. Soon he falls for Laurel, a beautiful woman recently arrived from Earth, but as secrets emerge, he faces a stark truth that could cost him everything.

Tobin and Jonathan must risk everything and deal with consequences that could cost them the fragile relationships they’ve built with the women they love.

Warnings: MFMM, MF

Dragon Kisses #3 (Laurel, Niall, Jonathan)
In the months following Jonathan’s transformation, Laurel struggles to come to terms with her feelings for him and the horrific memories of time spent as a dragon’s slave. Jonathan struggles to be patient, but Laurel’s fear is breaking his heart. Niall and Cassie open a popular bakery and revel in the bliss of love and their new lives. Arabella pines for Tobin’s aspects to be reunited, and Nora discovers the secret of creating Zmaj offspring.

Meanwhile all Zmaj braces for the Inamanida attack that Tobin warned them about. When it finally comes, the Zmaj find themselves vastly outnumbered by enemy forces. In the violence that follows, everything changes.

Excerpt from Dragon Kisses #1 (Cassie and Niall):
“Cassie.” The deep voice calling my name belonged to the dragon man standing next to the one who had watched over us. “Come.”

Was it wrong that his commanding tone had me close to coming? Nora’s assurance came from, I knew, deep inside my psyche. After all, in a dream all the characters were aspects of myself. Niall was my caution, and Nora was my sense of adventure. I pried myself from Niall’s hold. “We’ll be fine.”

Even facing the weirdest situation and the worst odds, I was an optimist. Before Niall could process what I was doing, I left the safety of the group. Taking those first steps toward a new life was easy when I knew I’d soon wake up in the safety and comfort of my bed, and I figured nothing was to be gained by huddling against a barn. Plus, this would make one hell of a diary entry when I woke up, and it would help keep my mind off Chad, the jerkweasel who’d dumped me yesterday.

Laurel and Oliver followed me. Both of them seemed to be dazed and confused. The blue-haired men morphed into a dragon, and we climbed onto its back. The three of us fit easily. I sat forward of the wings. Oliver situated himself behind me, and Laurel wrapped her arms around his waist.

“Hold onto the scales,” Nora shouted.

I slid my hands around the edges of two blue scales. Each was a large as a dinner plate, but they had ridges on the top which were perfect for holding. One leap, and it took off.

Flying on the back of a dragon was unlike anything I’d experienced. My tummy fluttered from the quick ascent—or from that niggling bit of sense that told me I wasn’t playing it safe, and wind whipped through my hair. I had the feeling the dragon was flying slower than normal, and I appreciated his restraint. Any faster, and I might have freaked out.

Or not. Who could be afraid of heights or strangers in such a wonderful fantasy?

Michele, thanks so much for stopping by. So, how did you get started writing?
Michele: Like all writers, I’ve always been an avid reader, and I’ve always written in once capacity or another. After a time, books failed to satisfy me, so I began making my own stories in my head. I created characters and settings and mini-plots. One day after I finished reading a book, I put it down and said I could do better, and so began my writing career. I put the characters from my head onto paper, and a year later, I’d written two novels.

What was the inspiration for your book?
Michele: Inspiration often comes from a sudden thought. For Dragon Kisses, I wondered what would happen if someone woke up on a different world—one where dragon shifters treated humans as little more than sexy pets—what would happen. I created Cassie and Niall first, and so they’re the focus of the first book. Together, they set things in motion to change the way the dragons—the Zmaj—view humans. I also wanted to treat it like a serial, and so books two and three bring other characters into play. Dragon Kisses 2 centers on Jonathan—a human with a surprising past—and Arabella, who arrived with Cassie and Niall. Dragon Kisses 3 sees a conflict with the Zmaj enemy brought to a stunning climax, and everybody’s lives are irrevocably altered.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
Michele: It’s funny—I get asked this question a lot. I am not a person who feels bounded by rules or what I’ve done previously. If I want to write in a certain genre, I just do it.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
Michele: Animal fiction. I don’t understand the appeal of animals as main characters. Dragon shifters? Okay. Talking cats? No, thank you. The one exception I’ve found is Call of the Wild. That one’s a classic for a reason.

So, what are you working on right now? Have any other releases in the near future, or are you still writing?
Michele: I recently got the rights back to Re/Paired (Doms of the FBI 2). I plan to re/vise and re/release it. In July, I’ll follow that with Re/Claimed (Doms of the FBI 3), and then later this year, I’ll have a (mostly new) story called Blade’s Ghost.

Alright, now for some totally random, fun questions. Favorite color?
Michele: Purple

Favorite movie?
Michele: Comedy—Overboard; Horror—The Crow; Drama—The Season 2 Buffy Finale. I have tons of others, but lately I’m more of a TV show kind of person. I’m binge-watching Dexter and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Alright, you have one superpower. What is it?
Michele: Teleportation. I hate driving and I’m afraid of heights. This solves both problems.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Michele: Okay, this is my boring answer because I’ve never been the kind of person who wants to meet anybody famous—I’d have dinner with my wife and our twins.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
Michele: I’m probably most like Sabrina from Letting Go. We’ve both worked through similar issues in our lives, and we both ended up with spectacular spouses.

Happy April Fool's Day!

Today is one of my favorite days. It might not be considered a national holiday, but for me, April Fool’s Day is a big deal. I love having a day where laughter and tomfoolery are celebrated and I can be my goofy self all day long.

I also love that April Fool's Day is celebrated around the world. For example, in Poland, today is a day full of pranks, and serious activities are usually avoided.

And did you know, in Italy, France, Belgium, and French-speaking areas of Switzerland and Canada, today is known as "April fish"? People in these parts of the world attempt to attach a paper fish to a victim's back without being noticed.

All in all, this is a day to celebrate good-spirited fun and pranks, and get to laugh not only at others, but at ourselves as well. After all, the world can always use a little more laughter. So no matter how you celebrate April Fool’s, have a fun (and safe) day!

I love the Penguins of Madagascar :)
