PLEASE READ!

Alright, this is in regards to anyone who participates in my contests. I have been trusting in the past with trusting that if you say you did one of the entries, you did it. For example, if you said you followed me on GFC, twitter, and email, I believed you. Well, it's been brought to my attention that people have apparently been entering without actually completing the requirements for that entry (and thanks to the person who brought it to my attention, you know who you are and I appreciate it). I make it super easy to enter, all I ask for is a comment. If you do more, you earn more entries.

And for the naysayers who say that being forced to do more to earn more isn't fair, here's the deal: it doesn't cost you anything other than time and a little brain power to win these prizes. However, it does cost me to offer them, so I'm asking for very little in exchange for the chance to get something for free. Heck, most of the entries can then be re-used for future giveaways, so it does pay off in the long run. Also, you can win with one or two entries. In fact, my Vamps for Valentines winner only entered by commenting and won. So yes, you can win if you just comment. Though I do encourage you to follow me to earn more entries, you don't have to in order to win, it only increases your chances of doing so. So please quit complaining to me about it.

Me when people cheat in my giveaways
I know some of you may think I'm overreacting, but when I went to pick a winner for the Vamps hop, my first two winners chosen were disqualified for not completing an entry they claimed. Now, I don't know how many others have slipped by in my past giveaways, but I'm cracking down on it now. I work hard to do giveaways and such, and I ask for very little in return. So if you don't want to follow me, I'm not forcing you to. Just don't say you did something you didn't. It hurts my feelings and it's rude to me. I understand that sometimes, accidents happen. Maybe you thought you completed the requirements and something went haywire, fine, I understand, really. But you know, I double-check my contest entries because I'm paranoid and have to double check to make sure, so maybe next time you should take the time to do so as well. It's not fair for me to pick winners who didn't when there are others who completed all the entries they submitted.

However, if you constantly keep submitting entries without completing them, then I will block you and ban you from all future giveaways, as it's not fair to me or others who follow the rules.

Now, for those of you who read all the way through this post, I want to thank you for taking the time to do so, and to reward you, leave a comment with your thoughts (is there anything I need to clarify, was I too harsh, has this happened to you, etc) and also like my new Facebook page for the blog, and tell me in the comments. What's the prize? Depending on how many people comment, it increases. If I get under 15 comments, it's a $5 Amazon giftcard, 16-30 comments, a $10 giftcard, and so on. Every time I get 15 more comments, I add $5. The contest is open until March 31st. Thanks so much to all my loyal followers, I really appreciate your support.

P.S. To answer an email I received, yes I am an Amazon Associate and I am thinking of becoming an ARE one as well. I also have a photo and link on my sidebar for a survey-taking site called MindField. If you click on any of those links, I get credit for you buying/joining. Yes, I am a college student, no I don't make a lot of money. Yes, I pay for every single one of the giveaways I post unless through a tour or otherwise noted, and yes, it can get expensive. I pay for it by using the money I get through Amazon Associates and through giftcards and out of my own pocket. Yes, it does make a difference if you buy through my links, it really does, even if it's just a .99 ebook. Because all those .99 ebooks add up. And any amount helps defray my costs and enables me to have more giveaways. It makes a world of difference to me and it definitely makes my day. Also, I get a $1 credit for every person who uses my link to sign up on MindField. So please, if you have the time and if you want to be generous, feel free to use my links, it means the world to me. Yes, I do get rewarded for it, no it's not a scam, and yes, it does matter.

Alrighty, one last note from me. I love my followers, you guys rock and help encourage me everyday to keep blogging. Thanks a bunch guys, I heart you all!

  1. I can really understand this. I have even heard of people using the same tweet over and over each day, which I think is crazy. It is much easier to send a new tweet than to try to find the previous one, lol.
Btw, love the puppy on your new FB page....too cute :)

  2. I'm not entering Emily but just wanted to let you know I feel your pain! It's incredibly disheartening when you come across the ones who are cheating. Thankfully most are pretty honest but oh those bad apples will really get you down some days. I hope everyone starts behaving for ya!

  3. I'm fairly new to your website and think that you are 100% correct in feeling the way that you do.
If people don't follow the stated rules, then they should be disqualified. I'm very low tech and have privacy concerns so I don't belong to FB or Google Friend etc. Sorry that I can't "like" you etc.
I've entered rafflecopter contests where there were huge # of entries but very few comments, that it made me wonder about the entries.
Anyway, I keep in mind about using your AMZ link next time I buy some books.

  4. Hi Emily-
Your comments are spot on and not too harsh. It is frustrating to find that entries are dishonest and they should be disqualified then.
I just followed you on GFC, twitter (@MSEREADS) Linky, and I liked your new page. I figured I'd hit them all in one visit. :-)
Thanks for visiting at my blog too. Happy reading and blogging!

  5. I totally understand your frustration. I have gone through the same thing on my blog. I don't understand why people complain about extra entries for liking on Facebook or for Tweeting if they don't have those accounts. It's simple to set one up and free and if they wanted those entries so bad then they should just do it. It isn't fair to complain about others who choose to do them. And really, this is your blog and you are free to run your giveaways any way you want to. If they don't like it then they just shouldn't enter. I hear ya!

I liked your new Facebook page as Tiffany Drew, and that puppy is adorable!

  6. I totally agree with all you wrote!! I can see how it would be frustrating to you. It's frustrating to those of us who enter and then someone who doesn't take the time to do all the contest states, wins! I admit that I fudge but that is a rare occurrence and always accidental!! If I mess up, I shouldn't win! Good for you for buckling down although sad you have to take the time out to do it!

Already following you on GFC and linky (books4me). New to twitter (@books4me2). Old email follower:

  7. Hi Emily,
Sorry to hear about the cheaters. Frustrating to think that people were winning without going through the correct process. So unfair for the rest of us. It's so sad, when you can't trust your followers. Thank you for sharing your giveaways. I'm following you through email, facebook, and twitter. :)

  9. The nerve of some people. I totally understand optional entries, and most of the time I don't complete many of them because I have neither Facebook nor Twitter (I refuse. Long story.) I simply appreciate that you have an easy option that anyone can complete. I'm always disappointed when I come across a giveaway I would love to enter and can't: because the mandatory entry is liking someone's FB (or whatever).

  10. I follow a lot of blogs and they all talk about how much they hate this! They can't announce the winner on the blog and have the winner email anymore because more than one person will say they won. :/

  11. I understand that. It's not fair when people cheat on giveaways when authors and bloggers are so considerate with their giveaways!!

  13. I don't blame you at all for cracking down on people. Whenever I'm entering a contest on rafflecopter and I accidentally hit enter when I've not done something (some times I get in to big of a hurry) I will leave a comment and ask for the entry to be deleted or I will email the person that's having the contest and ask them to delete it.

  17. I'm so sorry that this is happening Em. I think it's sad that some people resort to cheating, especially when it's not that hard to enter fairly. Hope it works out for you!

  18. Interesting. I had no idea that some people can cheat with rafflecopter.

I am trying to keep my likes and FB private to family and friends. I try very hard not to add blogs and authors to it so I won't be able to add or like.

  19. Well this is news to me. I had no idea authors weren't really checking things like that. Anyway it just feels better if I just go through all the trouble and do everything you're asking since you're putting in the effort I might as well do so too. It's only courtesy to do so.

  21. Hi!
Actually, it's sad to say so but I'm not really that surprised. But it still irks me that people will cheat if they know they are going to get away with it, so I understand a bit how you feel about it. Especially as its so obvious you do some serious work here ; this must take a lot of your time! I actually found the blog very recently through Kim Dare's GR blog entries, and I'm going to follow your GR reviews more closely from now on ;)
I however don't have a FB or Twitter, so, sorry for not following you there.
... I have actually no idea how the rafflecopter thing works, so if I really have to complete all entries, well I'm screwed x) But at least it's fun trying to complete all of those I can ^^

  22. I can't believe people are doing this. Its is so easy to follow the rules of a giveaway that it is just stupid to cheat. I'm sorry people have been doing this to you.
