Exclusive Excerpt:
She was back in the terrace kitchen in Pyrmont, having slipped away momentarily without meaning to. Time was ticking on and she had to focus and start preparing the linguine.

She washed her hands under the tap, dried them on her apron and was tipping flour onto the bench when something caught her eye. Ben’s suit jacket and tie were lying on the armchair by the fireplace. Not hung nor draped neatly, they’d been thrown there rather haphazardly, which she thought a little odd since he was so meticulous about the care of his suits. Maybe he’d changed in a hurry to get to the Ivy.

She was still tipping flour onto the bench, her mind tumbling over all the things she needed to get done before Ben arrived home, when she heard it. It was a noise above her, like a squeak, then a moan of the timber flooring. She froze, the packet of flour suspended above the stone benchtop. She strained her ears to listen, her body still, but then the sound vanished. The only discernible noise was from the ticking of the clock and her own heart thumping in her chest.

She released her breath—hadn’t realised she’d been holding it—and shook her head with a smile, feeling silly as she cracked eggs into her well of flour. The house was shifting, settling as the cool night air crept in. She really needn’t be so jumpy. She wasn’t used to being in the house without Ben. Usually, they had music playing, the coffee machine whirring in the background or the gas stove fired up. It was rarely this quiet.

She took another sip of wine and concentrated on the dough. Using a fork, she began incorporating the eggs, working her way outwards to mix in the flour.

She heard it again.

This time it was louder. Another squeak, and as she strained her ears and her eyes shot upwards to the ceiling, it sounded like voices. Yes, voices. Was someone upstairs?

She shook her head again, set down the fork and wiped her floury hands on her apron. She knew what it was. Ben was forever leaving the television on in his room. Voices of the evening news combined with the settling of the house were jangling her nerves. She shook off the ghosts, for of course there was no one in the house with her. Ben was out and she was quite alone.

She walked to the stairs, climbing them one by one with a determination that felt forced. Her footfalls were quiet as they sank into Ben’s luxurious Pierre Frey carpet, and when she reached the top, she paused on the landing to listen. There were sounds, definitely coming from Ben’s room. Muffled voices and it certainly sounded like the television set had been left on. Then it occurred to her.

Ben had moved that television set out weeks ago.

One Too Review Tour

Blurb:
Telepathy creates as many problems as it solves, as most of the members of the secret organization x0 would admit. When new member Lola discovers another group of telepaths with a completely different approach, those problems multiply at the speed of thought.

Soon, Lola’s family and friends are in danger. Lucky for her, she’s not your average budding psychic. Each person with whom she is close has a special gift of their own. That’s good, because it’s going to take every power they possess to keep this other group from succeeding with their plan to eradicate x0.

Excerpt:
“The way your mom describes how you see the future, it is so cool. Please. Touch me first. I want to know what’s going to happen to me.” Xuha made one of his exaggerated comic faces, this time a look of amplified eagerness.

Ariel directed a fierce look of annoyance at her mother.

“We are in the middle of a crisis here,” her mom responded. “So we’ve now got a ‘no secrets’ policy in this house. I’ve told everyone everything I know because we have to work together.”

“That will not be possible,” the blind Irish man said from the place where he had settled in on the couch.

Lola looked at this man named Cillian more closely. He was a tall, unusually attractive man in his mid-forties, with a rich brogue and the demeanor of someone of wealth and importance. He spoke like he was accustomed to being listened to.

“I beg your pardon?” Lola said as politely as she could.

“Ariel will need to be selective about what she tells you. It’s a pity that you chose to share her feyness with this entire group, but she and I will find ways to manage that damage. She needs to check with me before she says anything.”

Lola reminded herself that she was tired. Hungry. Under a lot of stress. And not used to strangers in her own house telling her what to do. She tried to soften her voice before she spoke, but she didn’t do a very good job of it.

“Ariel is my daughter and she will do no such thing. Her entire family is in danger and needs her help. What she does or doesn’t do is not your concern. I’m not even sure why you are here, but you may stay if and only if you don’t think it is your prerogative to tell us what to do.”

The rest of the room went silent.

My Review:
3.5 stars

Let me start by saying that this is not a traditional standalone because you do need to understand aspects of the other books to fully appreciate the story. This is standalone in that the author provides the bare bones of the plots and important elements from the first five books through appendices and exposition in the story, so you don’t have to read them to read One Too. Nevertheless, I would recommend reading the entire series in order, as this book is the accumulation of the previous 5. I feel like I would have appreciated this book more if I’d read the others, as this is an intricate storyline and world.

Speaking of the plot and world, while it was intricate, it was also a bit trippy and complicated at times. Thermodynamics play a role here, and there is a lot of scientific discussion and theory thrown around. I could tell the author had a scientific background as the science behind the characters’ abilities, multiverses, thermodynamics, etc. was explored and brought into the story, making it a thought-provoking, intriguing read. At times this was a bit of a disadvantage though, as it slowed down the plot, and I had a hard time following some it. It reminded me of the film Inception in that you have to be fully cognizant and quick on your toes to really understand the book and the plot, and if you miss any of it, it won’t make as much sense. This is one of the big reasons why I recommend reading this series in order.

The biggest issue I had with the book was the pacing. As I said, there was a lot of slow parts due to dumps of information you wouldn’t know if you hadn’t read the other books, sciency stuff, and different tangents (especially when we started talking timelines).

Because of this, there were many details that were told rather than shown,  like an “on the last episode” recap. Because they were info dumps they didn’t fit in well, which kept jarring me out of the story. I understand that the author did this to make the book standalone, but this hurt the pacing and the story. I think if the book had been trimmed down 50 or so pages and took off from where the others ended, the story would have felt more natural and organized.

All in all, this was a good read. However, I wish I had read the other 5 books first, as even though you could technically read this series as a standalone, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can technically read the Harry Potter series as standalones and still get the gist of the series, but you miss out on the beauty and intricacies of the books if you do so. After reading One Too, I feel like this series is the same.

Author Bio and Links:
Sherrie grew up in Western Kansas thinking that there was no place in the universe more fascinating than outer space. After her mother vetoed astronaut as a career ambition, she went on to study journalism and physics in hopes of becoming a science writer.

She published her first science fiction short story long ago, and then waited a lot of tables while she looked for inspiration for the next story. When it finally came,  it declared to her that it had to be whole book, nothing less. One night, while digesting this disturbing piece of news, she drank way too many shots of ouzo with her boyfriend. She woke up thirty-one years later demanding to know what was going on.

The boyfriend, who she had apparently long since married, asked her to calm down and  explained that in a fit of practicality she had gone back to school and gotten a degree in geophysics and had spent the last 28 years interpreting seismic data in the oil industry. The good news, according to Mr. Cronin, was that she had found it at least mildly entertaining and ridiculously well-paying.  The bad news was that the two of them had still managed to spend almost all of the money.

Apparently she was now Mrs. Cronin, and the further good news was that they had produced three wonderful children whom they loved dearly, even though to be honest that is where a lot of the money had gone. Even better news was that Mr. Cronin turned out to be a warm-hearted, encouraging sort who was happy to see her awake and ready to write. "It's about time," were his exact words.

Sherrie Cronin discovered that over the ensuing decades Sally Ride had already managed to become the first woman in space and apparently had done a fine job of it. No one, however, had written the book that had been in Sherrie's head for decades. The only problem was, the book informed her sternly that it had now grown into a six book collection. Sherrie decided that she better start writing it before it got any longer. She's been wide awake ever since, and writing away.

Fueled by Lust: Altair Book Blast

Blurb:
“Ah, my lovely sisters of fate,” Altair Battaglia whispered softly to the shimmering Insedivertus sky. “What future do you have in store for this humble servant? I await your sign with bated breath.” A calm mission to destroy a nasty drug czar would be nice. But then again, when is anything ever easy? Especially when a set of wide green eyes and red-stained luscious lips has this seasoned warrior oblivious to everything around him…even her lethal Glock-19 hovering inches from his chin.

Fierce, determined, and carrying a burden heavy enough to make a weaker person weep in defeat, Makenna Dunn never thought life would ever cut her a break. How could she have even imagined a mysterious stranger interrupting her deadly goal might flip her world upside down and thaw her frozen heart?

Fast paced and screaming hot, Book 11 in the FBL Series yet again tugs your heart, tingles your senses, and leaves you panting for more. Get ready!

Excerpt:
“Angeli,” he growled against her damp hair smelling of vanilla and alluring female. “I’m honored at your trust.”

“Just shut up and kiss me before I start thinking too hard.”

Puffy moist lips crashed into his own. He moaned with enthusiasm at her aggressiveness, opened his mouth, and sucked her tongue inside. They dueled for supremacy, causing his dick to push even harder against unforgiving jeans. Her need was raw, thrilling, and matching his own. She clung to him, fingers digging into his shoulders and egging him on with her groans of elated approval.

Around and around he turned, lost to the sensations of finally experiencing a full, uninterrupted kiss from his female. He was hopelessly lost to her presence—bumping into tables, knocking over a chair, and grunting as he slammed into yet another wall. He broke for air, hauled in a lungful of her delicious scent, and fought to do something his mind was totally against happening. He set her down.

Altair tore at his shirt, uncaring of the ripping fabric. He wanted it off. She’s too far away, his befuddled mind screamed. He cried out at the exquisite sensation of her fumbling with his belt, knuckles bumping against his belly. She clawed at his zipper, finally released it, and shoved the jeans to his thighs.

“Oh my God,” she mumbled.

Laurel's Gift Review Tour

Blurb:
The plaintive singing of a ghostly child in the night sets off a chain of events that lead to Laurel learning the dark secrets that dwell in her Great Aunt Maggie’s house in a Melbourne suburb. When Eli comes into Laurel’s life, instead of instantly uncovering the secrets that have been buried in this house for many years, their joint efforts lead them to discover even greater mysteries.

Eli’s past is tied up with the ghost of the child who haunts the house, and there are many hurdles to cross before he discovers just why he also sensed strange vibes in the old house as soon as he entered.

In their search for the answers to an extraordinary mystery they uncover a passionate love affair shared by the people dear to them or those who dwelt in the house at one time of another. Despite their shared psychic abilities can the couple also find such a love?

Excerpt:
The phone rang while she was deciding which clothes to wear. Laurel sat on the side of the bed and picked up the extension.

“Good morning. How did you sleep?” Eli asked. He possessed a really nice voice, she had to admit.

“Not the best.” Wasn’t that the truth? Laurel ran a hand over her head. She really should have called Ben first thing. Too many things were happening in her life too suddenly and her brain was beginning to feel like mush.

“No interruptions?”

“No.” Presumably he meant the child.

My Review:
3 stars

This was an okay read for me. I liked the twists and turns of new secrets being revealed throughout the book. They kept me on my toes and guessing, which made this a quick read for me. I also liked seeing Laurel and Eli interact with each other, as I felt they had good chemistry. However, I wish there had been more focus on the paranormal side of the story. I thought with the ghost child and Laurel and Eli’s abilities, this would have been a much bigger part of the story than it ended up being. And even the resolution of this was underwhelming for me, especially after the suspenseful mysteries throughout the rest of the story.

I also liked the characters, especially the pets. Laurel was an interesting woman who I connected with. However, I didn’t connect with Eli, and spent part of the book not liking him because he just came off as standoffish to me. I still am “meh” about him, partially I feel because there weren’t as many details about him. Yes, his background was supposed to be part of the mystery. But the mystery of who Eli is, his personality as a character, still hadn’t been solved at the end of the book, hence the “meh.”

Overall, this was a good book with some weak points. If you are okay with a more contemporary focus vs. paranormal and if you like mysterious men, then this book is for you.

Bargaining with the Boss Blurb Blitz

Blurb:
Kinsley just wanted to have some fun for a change. Then she wakes up in a stranger’s bed, with her bridesmaid dress on backward and a hazy memory of what happened at her friend’s wedding. With a quick escape, she can get back to her predictable life. But then she meets her new boss—the same guy she’d woken up next to—and seeing him with a clear head doesn’t make him any less attractive.

Mixing business with pleasure has never been Damon’s style, and easily avoided, but the hotel he just bought comes with an unexpected perk—its manager. “Sensible” Kinsley today is as alluring as “impulsive” Kinsley was the night before, and she talks him into a deal. If she can turn around the hotel by the end of summer, he won’t tear it down to put up a more profitable casino.

Their plan is simple…until falling for each other becomes more than they bargained for.

Excerpt:
Kinsley jumped up and launched herself into his arms. “Thank you,” she breathed into his shoulder. “Thank you for believing in me.”

Damon stilled. Then his arms slowly came around her and he pressed her to his chest. “You’re welcome,” he whispered in her hair.

She made no movement to separate herself from his embrace. She knew it was wrong—highly inappropriate, actually—to be standing in her office, burrowing in her boss’s chest like a chipmunk. Anyone could barge in. But he felt so nice, so warm with that freshly showered, masculine scent all his own. She couldn’t resist staying in his arms a little longer until good sense entered her brain again.

Kinsley dropped her arms and they both slowly drew apart. Damon didn’t look happy. In fact, his jaw was clenched so tight, it looked like it might shatter. She just hoped this little overly affectionate stunt didn’t cost her her job.

“Sorry,” she muttered, her face growing hotter with every passing second. “Sometimes I let my emotions get carried away. I didn’t mean to…jump you. It’s just that I’m so grateful.”

Damon remained silent, his brows furrowed together as if contemplating how to tactfully fire her without hurting her feelings.

“It, uh, won’t happen again,” she assured him. “The hugging part, not the thanking you part.”

“I know what part you were referring to,” he growled. She swallowed. “Oh, right. Of course. Sorry for the… Sorry.” Somebody tape my mouth closed now.

Damon held up his hands in a time-out sign. “We’re off the clock, right?” he asked.

Dread had her hesitating. Was he really going to fire her? She nodded and slowly met his steel-blue eyes.

Then before she could blink, Damon St. James pulled her back into his arms and kissed her.

Cruising for Love Blurb Blitz

Blurb:
Cruising for Love: 4 Shipshape Romances Kindle Edition by R.C. Matthews, Cait O'Sullivan, Angela Adams, and Peggy Gaddis. Set a course for adventure with these four couples as they take to the high seas only to find new romance.

Little White Lies: (R. C. Matthews)
Attorney Madalyn Russell may have dumped her fiancé at the altar, but no way is she rejecting the honeymoon cruise. Unfortunately, she didn’t cancel the newlywed package, and now she’s stuck as a single in a lovebird world. That is, until a devilishly handsome man with a secret, Royce Spencer, offers a deliciously indecent proposal: He’ll pose as her husband in exchange for companionship during the cruise. She can’t deny their attraction, but will their little white lies make too many waves when Royce’s past finally catches up with him?

Romancing the Seas: (Cait O’ Sullivan)
When a relationship gone bad sinks sous-chef Pippa Renshaw’s plans, she swaps her job in a prestigious London restaurant to become the head chef on a cruise ship sailing around New Zealand. It’s a great escape plan until a mix-up means she has to share a suite with her new boss, the delectable Jonathon Eagleton, who is no happier about the circumstances. These two can handle the simmer… but when the heat turns up, is it a recipe for true love?

Magic Moment: (Angela Adams)
Shortly after the FBI brings in Laura Roberts for questioning regarding activities at the warehouse where she keeps the books, a gang of thugs snatch her off the street. Chase Donovan boarded his boat intending to spend a few peaceful days getting his head together, but instead he finds trouble when he interrupts two men assaulting a woman in his cabin. What’s more, they claim his father told them to do it. Chase doesn’t want to believe his father could hurt anyone. Laura doesn’t understand why she’s a target. Can they put their mutual attraction and time on his yacht to work to discover the truth before someone dies?

Reach for Tomorrow: (Peggy Gaddis)
Nurse Claire Frazier was devoted to her fiancé, until he threw that love back in her face. Disillusioned and burning with shame, she books passage on a world cruise, along with an intriguing collection of fellow passengers: an attractive second officer, a detective, and a confidence artist. Is love waiting once again at the next port of call?

Excerpt from Magic Moment:
Laura is having lunch at the local diner when two FBI agents approach her and insist she come down to headquarters and answer a few questions. A bewildered Laura finds Chase Donovan, her boss’s son, coming to her aid.

“Laura works for my father,” Chase said. “If I don’t see some identification, she’s not going anywhere with you.” To prove his point, his hand moved downward and his fingers wrapped gently around her forearm.

Chase also worked for his father, although what his role was within the business was generally debatable among the clientele. This was so embarrassing. In the three years Laura had worked as Dick Donovan’s bookkeeper, her conversations with his son had been work-related or cordial exchanges about the weather. If there was any chance of the floor opening up and swallowing her, she considered now the perfect time.

She turned to Chase. “Thank you for your concern. I’ve seen their identification.” She didn’t mention the hasty badge flip. “They have me confused with someone else. I’ll take care of the error, and get back to the office as soon as I can.”

“Let me go with you.” Chase tossed the men a wary glance. He still held her arm. “You should have an attorney.”

Laura winced, truly mortified. There was no need for an attorney or involving Chase Donovan in calling one. She had done nothing illegal. “I’m fine.”

Excerpt:
“Back to my original question. Would you like to go and see the latest Morgan Freeman movie with me?”

She snapped her finger. “That’s who you sound like. I’ve been puzzling my brain since the first time you spoke to me trying to figure out who you sound like. That deep, sensual baritone is just like Morgan Freeman’s.”

A slow smile spread across Dexter’s lips. “Sensual, huh?” Over the years, people had often commented on the deepness and the power behind his voice. But hearing Mona call his voice sensual had him sticking his chest out, feeling as if he could conquer the world.

Mona opened her mouth, but nothing came out and she shut it. That shyness he’d witness more often than not was back and so was her adorable smile.

Deciding not to pick on her, he asked, “So, how about a movie?”

“When?”

“Right now.”

“Now?”

“The movie starts in thirty minutes.”

She glanced down at her outfit again. “I would love to go, but that doesn’t give me enough time to shower and ch—”

“You look amazing, Mona. All you need to do is slip into a pair of shoes and grab a jacket.”

She twisted her bottom lip between her teeth as if seriously considering his invite.

“I’ll give you three minutes,” he prompted.

“Make it five and we have a deal.”

She didn’t wait for a response. Instead she rushed to the back of the condo. Exactly five minutes later she returned. She had pulled her hair into a ponytail at the nape of her neck, added gloss to her lips, slipped into a pair of knee-high boots, and wore a short leather jacket.

Dexter grinned, impressed at the speed in which it took her to look even sexier. “You look great.”

She laughed. “We really need to get your eyes checked.”

He liked this side of her. Relaxed and carefree.

When she started to move past him, Dexter reached out and grabbed her hand. Without thinking, he pulled her to him and captured her mouth with his. She gasped, but that didn’t stop him from taking what he wanted. She kissed him back with a hunger that rivaled his, and excitement charged through his body.

He had been dreaming about kissing her again, wanting to confirm that the first time wasn’t a fluke. That he hadn’t imagined how perfect her body felt against his. Or how kissing her was like a fantasy come true.

As their tongues tangled, the kiss sang through his veins, sending blood rushing from his brain to the lower part of his body.

Nope, it hadn’t been a fluke, he thought, as Mona’s arms went around his neck, deepening their connection. The lip-lock was like a soldering heat that joined metals and Dexter never wanted to let her go.

Mona didn’t know yet, but before long she’d be all his.
