Birthday Celebration Day 7 - Today's the Day!

It’s finally arrived…it’s my birthday! Whoot, whoot! I am now a wise, beautiful 24 year old who still has a lot of life to live and a lot of love to give (yes, yes, I couldn’t help the rhyming).

I think today I’ll just keep this short and sweet. You see, I decided to spend my birthday celebrating with my family and friends. I went out with my girls last night and now I’m going to visit my family and spend the day with them, reminiscing and enjoying life.

So I will see y’all tomorrow for the wrap-up…but first it’s giveaway time! You didn’t think I’d forget you guys on my day, did you? Today I’m giving away another $5 Amazon GC to a lucky commenter. Let’s see…best comment wins. It can be heartfelt, funny, share a video, whatever. Just leave your email address with your comment, and that’s it. Have a great day guys, I’m off to enjoy my big day!

Birthday Celebration Day 6

Today, I’m switching it up a bit. I’ve had Asta on several times before with her books, so when she let me know about her new book, I knew I had to have her come back. And when she started talking birthdays with me, I knew I had to have her write a birthday post to share with y’all. And then finals happened, and my friends made birthday plans, and Asta wrote an awesome birthday post…so I decided to take it easy and let Asta take center stage today. So without further ado, here is Asta’s new book, Kangaroos Next 200km, and her take on birthdays:

Blurb:
When a drunken dare sees Mason Stubbs roaming lost in the Australian outback, he expects to perish under the desert sun. But then along comes trucker Jackson Cooper, intent on making his delivery to Alice Springs on time. The pair may not see eye to eye at first, but they’ll have to adjust to each other’s company. After all, there’s nothing but kangaroos for the next 200km.

Torquere Press     |     ARe     |     Amazon US     |     Amazon UK

Excerpt:
Mason paused again and licked his lips. They were dry, as was his throat, but, fool that he was, he’d taken nothing with him when he left the tent. By some stroke of luck, he was wearing his hiking boots; even if they were paired with pajamas. Fuck. He was screwed. At first he’d thought they’d find him in no time. Surely Alan and Paul had raised the alarm and the group was out looking for him? It had to be hours since he’d left, though, and so far no one had come to the rescue.

He sank to the ground, wrapped his arms around his legs, and rested his head on his knees. He was going to die out here. It would probably make the papers back home: “Twenty-One-Year-Old Brit Found Dead in Australian Bush.” The tabloids would be sympathetic. They’d interview his friends and concentrate on the tragic loss of one so young. Perhaps they’d even find some scandalous Facebook photo to plaster on the front page. The less sleazy publications would take a harder line and talk of his stupidity and how he’d brought it on himself. They’d leave his friends alone and talk to his high school teachers, who would comment on his lack of discipline in class and how they’d always feared he’d come to a bad end. He supposed the only plus was that he’d resisted Alan’s attempts to fill his backpack with sequined dresses and high heels. The tabloids would have lapped that up. The other papers would have doubtless interviewed some psychiatrists alongside his teachers.

A moment later, the loud blast of a horn filled the air, cutting off all reveries on his upcoming infamous demise.

When I first heard Emily was having birthday-themed guest posts to celebrate her own birthday, my first thought was ‘lucky her!’ Not so much for the birthday itself but for its placement. I’m a December baby, you see, and what I wouldn’t give for two distinct present sessions each year. As it is, I get the lot in the space of a few weeks, then nothing the rest of the year. Woe is me! But luckily it’s not all bad news, because birthdays mean books.

For me, the two go hand in hand, since books are by far my most often-received gift. All family and friends know how I love them, and they all have access to my ever-present, never-ending wish list at The Book Depository. Now that I live overseas, it’s easy for them to order from the list and have the books sent straight to me. My December book haul generally lasts me several months into the new year, giving me an excellent start on my Goodreads reading goal. This year my goal is 150 books, and at the time of writing this post, I have already finished 50, so I’m making good progress.

In an appropriate twist of fate, one of the main characters in the book I’m here to promote is also celebrating a birthday in the story.—his 21st. Mason marks the occasion with a trip to the Australian outback. However, the festivities take a dangerous turn when he’s separated from his group and lost in the desert. He fears this birthday may be his last, but perhaps he’ll be granted a lifeline and a gift in the form of handsome trucker, Jackson.
Will the birthday disaster have a happy ending? You’ll have to read to find out. :)

Happy Birthday to you, Emily. May yours be eventful, but without drama!

Birthday Celebration Day 5

Today, I want to share about another convention I've been to multiple times and absolutely love. I attended for the third time this past February and meant to do a giveaway and recap. I kept either not having time or forgetting about the post. However, I now believe I didn't post about it because I was meant to post about as part of my birthday celebration, considering the first time I went to the convention, I bought the ticket as a birthday gift for myself.

I got to hang out with a ton of new authors, including the hysterical Jocelyn Drake and her lovely husband (who has a surprising talent for rap). I also had the chance to reconnect with some old friends, including Kiernan Kelly, Aria Kane, JA Souders, Carrie Ann Ryan, Brynn Myers, Damon Suede, and of course, the spectacular Taylor Law. Plus, I got the chance to hang with an awesome couple (who wished to remain anonymous) who ended up helping me out when my hotel situation fell apart. You two are awesome and greatly appreciated.

My suitcase full of all the goodies I brought back.
I got to geek out over Arrow, the Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow with Sean Michael during the book signing, which rocked. And during lunch one day, Tere Michaels and Charlie Cochet convinced me to put aside my dislike of cliffhanger endings and finally read Charlie’s Thirds series. Of course, I ended up falling in love with the characters and the world of the Thirds. So I will just have to deal with the cliffhanger-ish endings from now on with this series, because I can’t resist the series now (highly recommended, btw).

This is just a small glimpse into the awesomeness that is Coastal Magic, and I can’t wait to go back next year (though hopefully the weather will cooperate).

Now I recognize that not everyone can make it down here for Coastal Magic, but never fear, because I will bring the Coastal Magic to you! I am giving away an awesome swag bag (identical to the one in the photo above) to one lucky commenter (US only). There are all sorts of awesome goodies that I collected throughout the weekend (including physical books!) inside that will not disappoint.

Bound by Oath and Honour NBtM

Today, I have the pleasure of hosting Debbi Peterson who agreed to party with us by sharing a mythical take on birthdays! Hope you find her post as interesting and informative as I did.

Blurb:
Fresh from her photo shoot in Northern England, wildlife photographer Tala Westbrook makes a promised stop at the family manor in Staffordshire, desperately in need of renovation. Though she didn’t plan to stay longer than it took to find a contractor, she is caught up in an ancient paranormal war. Despite the danger all around, she finds herself falling for the handsome, enigmatic man assigned to protect her.

Micah Berrington, elite guardian from the realm of the Bewitan Fierd, is used to protecting men of strength in the greatest of peril, not a female looking for someone to repair her home. Yet the assignment is far more than it seems and so is the beautiful woman destined to capture his heart, regardless of the cost.

Excerpt:
“You expect me to believe I said my name in my sleep?”

Finally, he turned around and faced her. The moment his dark brown eyes connected with hers, her heart spun in wild circles. A swarm of bothersome butterflies, buried deep within her belly, took flight. Handsome. Dark. Mysterious. The words swirled around inside her mind as the man, dressed in black from head to toe, took a couple of slow steps toward her. All the while, her inside churned in a simple response to his mere presence. In an irrational way she couldn’t explain, that increased her level of irritation as well.

“Believe whatever you wish.”

She ignored the comment. “If you don’t mind my asking, just where am I?”

“Not all that far from Westbrook Manor.”

“How very informative.”

In a show of exasperation, he took in a deep breath. Then with a bit of force, he blew it out again. “You’re sitting on my sofa, inside my home—or, at least you’re inside the residence I use when I’m in the area.” He sounded bored again.

She gave him a nod and then turned her gaze toward the door. “Good enough. If you’ll point me in the proper direction, I’ll get out of your way and leave you to what’s left of your evening.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not about to let you go out there all by yourself. By now your friends have regrouped. They’re probably waiting for you to show up so they can have another go at you.”

Tala narrowed her eyes. “You think you can hold me here against my will?”

I am really excited to kick off the Bound by Oath and Honour book tour here at Sharing Links and Wisdom! So thank you very much Emily, for the invitation. I am honored.

In as much as Emily celebrates her birthday this week, she thought it would be fun if, in some form or another, we talk about—well—birthdays.

Because I have a love for folklore and mythology, I thought I would incorporate the two by talking about one of my favorite birthday stories in Greek (Roman) legend—or at least one of the many versions of it.

Once upon a time Zeus, the supreme Ruler of Olympia carried on a secret dalliance with Leto, a Titan Goddess. This liaison resulted in the pregnancy of not one, but two children. As you can imagine, Hera, the wife of Zeus was not pleased over the impending births even if the affair happened before they were wed. Anyway, in a fit of rage, jealousy, vengeance or whatever her mood at the time, she sent a python to devour the hapless woman. While fleeing for her life, Artemis (or Diana according to Roman lore) was born. As one legend goes, Artemis—though newly born— assisted Leto with the birth of her twin brother Apollo. Yes, indeed, she’s all that! (Don’t you just love mythological stories?)

Anyway, on her third birthday--according to the poet Callimachus—the precocious child sat at the knee of her famous father and asked for six specific gifts:

First and foremost, Artemis wanted to live a chaste life.

Second, she didn’t ever want to marry anyone. Ever. (I am not making this up.)

Third, she asked for a bow and arrow—a really, really nice one, please.

Fourth, she wanted some hunting dogs to assist her when she went hunting—a thing she did often.

Fifth, she would need, of course, some fine-looking stags to lead her chariot.

Sixth, she asked for hunting companions, because, well it was boring to go out all by herself. Eighty companions would do quite nicely, and she wanted all of them to be virgin nymphs. (Don’t ask.)
That, she said, should just about do it.

Ever the indulgent and adoring father, Zeus, highly amused, granted each childish wish. Yet, with these gifts, Artemis went on to have countless adventures. So in effect, the gifts she received on her 3rd birthday not only lasted an entire lifetime, but also helped shape the unique Goddess she would become:

She is: The Greek Goddess of Chastity, Virginity, Hunting, Forests and hills, the Moon, and Archery.

And those, my friends, are some pretty fine accomplishments. So here’s my question. If Zeus happened to be your father, what birthday gifts would you ask for?

Birthday Celebration Day 3

Day 3 is here, and with it comes an awesome swag giveaway! Last year, I attended RainbowCon (which was awesome). I brought home a ton of goodies that I planned to give away, including sweet swag and books. I planned on giving it away after the convention when they made the announcement for 2016’s convention.

Spectacular swag up for grabs!
Alas, it was instead announced that the convention was going to be bi-annual, which meant the next convention wouldn’t be until 2017. With that happening, I didn’t get the chance to do the giveaway/announcement post I wanted to, leaving me with some awesome swag looking for a home. But that ends today. Because today, by leaving a comment, you get the chance to win one of TWO awesome swag bags! One of the bags even comes with a print copy of Jonathan’s Hope by Hans M. Hirschi, who I had the pleasure of getting to meet and hang out with (and have a friendly little selling competition with).

Comment for a chance to win!
For today’s comment: Have you ever been to a book convention? If so, what was either your first or your favorite convention? If not, what convention have you heard of that you want to attend?

When the Serpent Bites Excerpt Tour

Blurb:
Frederick Starks has it all—a gorgeous wife who was his high school sweetheart, three beautiful children, a mansion and cars others envy, millions in the bank, respected in his community, admired by his employees, loved and respected by loyal friends. He revels in the hard-earned power and control he’s acquired. As the saying goes, “All that glitters is not gold,” which Starks discovers when gut-wrenching betrayal by his wife sends him over the edge and into a maximum security prison. There, Starks is a new “fish,” stripped of nearly everything he’s always relied on. In that place, where inmates and guards have their own rules and codes of conduct, Starks is forced to face the darker side of life, and his own darker side, especially when the betrayals, both inside and outside the prison, don’t stop. He must choose which path to follow when the line between right and wrong becomes blurred: one that leads to getting out of the physical and emotional hellhole he finds himself in or one that keeps him alive.

Exclusive Excerpt:
Ozy’s SUV was parked in the driveway at the top of the slope. The inside of the house was dark. A quick glance at the digital clock on the dashboard showed it was after midnight. He hadn’t intended to go there this late; he hadn’t intended to go by there ever again. But his thoughts ate at him, until he had to do something to make them stop. To make all of it stop. Seeing Kayla with Bret had pushed him to this edge. In the dark interior of the car he slammed his hands on the steering wheel.

“Fuck all of them. I’m taking back control of my life.”

He parked at the foot of the driveway and got out. The temperature was dropping fast. Gusts of icy wind whipped at his face; treetops swayed and groaned. He leaned against the Bentley for several moments, shivering from cold and raw energy.

The grass crackled as he made his way toward the house, counting twenty-five steps as he dodged several children’s toys that had been left out. He approached the front door where hay bales, pumpkins, and gourds had been arranged. He ignored the doorbell and pulled open the outer glass door to access the solid wooden one, noting there was no peephole, its absence an indication that Ozy wasn’t afraid of what or who might come to his house. He raised a fist then held it back. There was still time to drive off, to just leave it all alone. Forcing an image of his children into his mind gave him courage. He swallowed hard then beat on the door without pause, until he heard someone turn the deadbolt on the other side.

Ozy wore his robe tied at his waist. His wife, also wrapped in a robe, and with hair flat on one side, stood behind him but to the right, eyes wide in fright at this disturbance.

Starks locked his gaze with Margaret’s. “I’m here to let your wife know what you’ve been doing. That you slept with Kayla, my wife, for three years. Of course, slept isn’t the right word.”

Slurred voices of children disturbed from sleep came from behind the couple. Ozy yelled for them to get back to bed. He told his wife to wait inside then stepped over the threshold, closing the glass door behind him. Loud enough for his wife to hear, he said, “You have the wrong house, buddy. I don’t know you or anyone named Kayla. Now get off my property, before I force you off.”

Starks’s expression darkened. His elbows pressed into his sides, his hands knotted into fists. The speech of well chosen words he’d practiced in his mind as he’d driven over vaporized.

“Liar! You’ve been screwing my wife in your car and anywhere else handy.” He pointed at Margaret. “Who knows what you told your wife you were doing—going to the store, working late, and God knows what else. You think you can destroy my family, all I’ve worked for, and get away with it? I want your wife to know what a two-timing loser she’s married to.”

Musings of an Earth Angel VBT

On top of sharing about her book (which has a simply gorgeous cover!), Suzanne also agreed to share her take on birthday celebrations. Don’t forget to check it out below!

Blurb:
22-year-old Samantha Kingston had the perfect job, perfect boyfriend, and perfect Friday nights. When disaster strikes she loses everything and is propelled into a journey where evil and good, dark and light are battling for her destiny. Will the Demon Brigade viciously destroy her? Or will her Angel team and the Divine help her to elevate and see her real truth as an Earth Angel?

Excerpt:
I had heard of being possessed by demons, but I never thought I would be so lucky as to get to have the experience firsthand. Once again, I could feel my body trembling and that strange bitter saliva building in my throat. I needed an exit strategy—and fast. I’d learned to expect and accept crazy episodes, but I had hoped I could at least enjoy Rose’s birthday dinner out with my friends.

Sweat trickled down my forehead, and I pushed my chair away from the dinner table and staggered to my feet. Rose grabbed me by the forearm. She and the others had already enjoyed three bottles of Prosecco; and the night was just getting started at La Lune et La Soleil, the hot new restaurant in midtown.

Rose raised her voice above the clink of glasses and hum of conversation. “Where are you going? Jacob’s just getting to the good part. You gotta listen.”

With sweat now dripping down my cheeks and the back of my neck, I sat back down as Jacob continued with his crazy story. He’d been over served at a party a few weeks ago and jumped into a parked cop car. The keys were somehow still in the ignition, and he drove through town shouting at random people through the car’s megaphone. Then he somehow managed to escape without the local cop tracing him. He’d gotten away scot-free—so far.

The waiter brought over the first course and Ken, a good friend to both Rose and me, proposed another toast. “To the beautiful birthday girl and to another great year of us all having fun together!”

I raised my glass of sparkling water—I could barely stay sane as it was these days and was terrified to think how my body would react to alcohol, at least for now anyway. Woozily, I toasted my dearest friend as best as I could. I fought to keep my eyes from rolling into the back of my head and almost dropped my glass.

“Whoa!” Ken said. “You sure that’s just sparkling water?”

It is time to celebrate!

Hello,
My name is Suzanne Adams and I am the author of Musings of an Earth Angel.  I am so excited to be guest blogging on the theme of birthdays.  I love birthdays, because they allows for both celebration and reflection.

I believe what you celebrate gets repeated and that the energy of celebration will also help you to vibe with and attract your heart's desires! So often in today's world we don’t take the time to celebrate our successes and accomplishments.  However, at the time of our birthday is a great time to really take note of everything we have accomplished over the last year and honor and celebrate ourselves.

I think it’s also a time to start to commit to celebrating ourselves more.  In my book, Musings of an Earth Angel, the protagonist, Samantha, learns all about the importance of self love and how to honor herself.  She also learns about life purpose and how important life purpose is to being happy.  I think in book 2 of the trilogy (which I am currently working on), she will definitely learn the importance of celebration.

Thank you so much for stopping by and if you have any questions please comment below! XP

Love,

Suzanne

Birthday Celebration Day 2

Whoot, whoot, day 2! I’m super excited today, because I found out last night when I checked my grades that because I earned an A in my Rhetorical Grammar class, I don’t have to take the final! So after I turn in my final assignment today, I’m all done with that class! Needless to say, this is some awesome birthday news.

Now, part of celebrating ones birthday involves a bit of reflection on your past. So with that in mind, I have had several contests over the past year or so where I either never heard back from the winners or I had contest entries that came in after the contest ended. But because I’m feeling so awesome and jazzed, I’m giving all these winners second chances to claim their prizes! So if your name is below, keep your eyes open for an email from me in the coming week in order to get your goodies.

E-book of The Comfort of Black - Debby
E-book of Reaper Mine - Debby
$5 Amazon GC for Ugly Sweater Day - Jbst
$5 Amazon GC for Christmas Carols - H.B.
$25 Amazon GC - Alexandra

Also, though I strive to be, I’m not always perfect and things do slip by me. So if you won a prize from me and contacted me but I somehow missed your email or you never received the prize, email me as well and we’ll sort it out.

So for today’s comment, let’s share some good news! What awesome and/or unexpected thing happened to you this past week or so? Let me know in the comments below.

Birthday Celebration Day 1

So, it’s that time of year again…time for my birthday that is! As you may have noticed, I didn’t do a big month long party last year, and I decided not to do so this year either. The reason for that is because now that I’m back in school, April is a very busy time for me. Finals are all coming up (I actually have one Thursday), final assignments are due, class sign-ups are opening, etc. Let’s just say, hectic-ness abounds. Because of this, I’m just celebrating for the next week, beginning today and ending on my birthday (or rather, midnight the day after).

So what am I doing this year for my birthday? Well, I have a bunch of old giveaways that I’ve been waiting to do, but never got the chance to and some new ones as well. Therefore, there’ll be a bunch of giveaways (almost one a day in fact) that you can enter. I also have some tour posts going on, also with giveaways. So basically, a week where you, my lovely readers, can win a bunch of awesome stuff. Oh, and a birthday giveaway just wouldn’t be complete without free books! So that will be happening as well. I might also throw some other cool surprises and announcements in as well, so keep your eyes open for those as well.

To kick everything off, I’m giving away a $5 Amazon gift card to one lucky winner who comments on every single birthday post this week. There will be 7, from today until May 1st, so as long as you comment on the posts before May 7th, you’re entered to win the gift card! Plus, you’ll also be entered into all the giveaways I’ll be having throughout the week, so what do you have to lose?

Well, that’s all from me for now, I hope y’all have a lovely Sunday and I’ll see you in the coming week!

Senlin was born a squinter. A child of the foster system, the lack of love  has left him with casual views on sex.

When Sicong recruits him into SQX, a squinter organization, Senlin wants nothing more than to jump his bones, but Sicong’s detachment makes Senlin believe his feelings aren’t reciprocated.

Senlin and Sicong’s relationship begins to grow as they undertake missions together.

That is, until an enemy of SQX turns his attention upon them.

 And now, for the cover:

And in case that's not awesome enough, here's a sneak peek into the book:

SIC HELD MY head in his lap. I looked up and saw, against the backdrop of the cardinal red sky, his angular face looking down at me. We were secluded by teal-colored woods around us. It was chaotic, for the forest was on fire, its color black and blue blending with red and teal. Despite the turmoil and the utter pain in my chest, I felt peaceful, as if all sounds had been erased except my shallow breathing.

“Don’t fall asleep, Sen,” he said to me, both commanding and begging. “Don’t.”

I lifted a corner of my mouth. I was too tired to talk.

Amidst all the distractions, I saw Sic squint his right eye. A subtle one; one he probably thought I wouldn’t notice.
I also squinted. Sic turned lime green when I did that, all over. I smiled because it was lime instead of tangerine or blue. I was sure I appeared the same to him.

It was a good day, regardless of the pain in my chest.
