Hanami Review Tour

Blurb:
“I am no princess… I am Yakuza,”

SAKURA SHINTANI is the heir to the Dragon Clan—Japan’s most notorious crime dynasty. But can she keep this fact a secret from the annoying brats of Oniyuri Academy?

She must try to master her demons while trying not to hurt anyone. But having the face of an angel puts her on everyone’s radar… including the arrogant heir to Asia’s most powerful tycoon, KENJIN KIYOHARA. He senses the danger, but Sakura is too interesting to be left alone.

Excerpt:
Jin rolled his eyes, settling his gaze back on the girl. He wasn’t surprised with their reaction.

The new girl was hot, but so what? It took more than a pretty face to get his attention. He wasn’t that easy to impress, and he was certain she’d be throwing herself at him anyway. Just like everybody else. He was sure this girl wasn’t any different from the love-crazed hyenas that stalked him.

Jin pushed back his shoulders, seeing her start towards him with her eyes still trailing on the ground.

Already? Jin thought, suppressing a laugh. He crossed his arms, waiting for her to get closer, and sure enough she stopped right in front of him. She was even prettier up close. Asian but with a hint of Caucasian mixed in.

“What?” he asked, smirking. He already knew what she might say: whether he was Kenjin Kiyohara, the sole heir to Kiyohara Industries? The questions were all the same. He thought she would have at least waited until class was over like the rest of them.

“Move your feet. You’re blocking my way,” the girl said in a sharp tone.  She shifted her gaze up at him like a threatening knife. Her topaz-colored eyes darkened, sending icy tremors down his back. He felt as if he’d been hit by a curse as his mind turned blank.

When she finally looked away, Jin was able to regain his senses. He tucked his legs out of her way, and she passed, leaving goosebumps in her wake. His eyes followed her, waiting to see if she’d look back, but she never did. Jin’s hands were trembling. His thoughts became jumbled while he struggled not to look anymore.

What was that? What just happened? This was a first for him. He couldn’t contain himself. His presence had no impact whatsoever. Instead she looked like she wanted to kill him!

Jin took a deep breath, replaying the moment in his head. Who was this girl? She sure got his attention, all right—and it left him in pieces. He fought the urge to look back again.

This girl…Jin thought. There was something about her. He couldn’t shake off the feeling. She seemed dangerous.

My Reviews:
Hanami
3.5 stars

This was an interesting novel for me. First, the characters (both major and side) were enjoyable and realistic. Jin was a jerk at first, but slowly grew on me as his relationship with Sakura deepened, forcing him to reevaluate what he really wanted. I had a harder time connecting with Sakura, as Sakura is a very distant character for the majority of the book, which fits with how she sees herself in the world she’s been drawn into. This made it hard to get to know the real her, though seeing her shut Jin down whenever he started getting full of himself was hilarious and fun, not to mention adding to the will they, won’t they romantic subplot.

As for the plot, there was a lot going on, and while most of the big storylines were addressed (Sakura’s parents, Jin/Sakura’s relationship, etc.), there were some smaller threads that went unresolved/ignored, which was a bummer considering the little details and intricacies woven into other parts of the story. Some parts of the story felt rushed and thrown in, while others appeared carefully arranged and worked in, which was disorienting and drew me away from the story at times.

All said though, this was a fascinating world with intriguing characters, mixed with a slow-burn (but worth it) romance. If that sounds like your cup of tea, I highly recommend giving this series a try. And on that note, on to my review of book 2:

5 stars

Let me start by saying that while I’m a sucker for falling in love for the first time stories, I’m even more of a sucker for angsty, once the honeymoon’s over sequels. And this definitely fit the bill. After Sakura and Jin overcame the odds and ended up together in book 1, I was looking forward to seeing the challenges they would face in book 2. I was not disappointed.

To start, I enjoyed seeing Sakura and Jin having to fight for their love in a realistic way. In fact, several of the obstacles to their relationship were obstacles I had thought about after reading book 1, so to see them addressed was awesome.

On top of that, seeing how the characters have grown from book 1 to book 2 was amazing. Sakura in particular was a favorite of mine, as I felt like I understood her much more in this book than I did the first. Add to that a kickass, hilarious collection of supporting characters and a thrilling, exciting plot…sold. Plus, that closing scene, with that closing sentence…perfect way to end this satisfactory sequel.

On a side note, in the post-credits, the author mentioned that she had never intended a sequel. Needless to say, I’m glad she gave the fans what they asked for. So now can we hope for book 3?

Come a Little Closer Book Blast

Blurb:
Sophie was the love of my life. Okay, we were twelve the last time I saw her but still. I've tried everything to move on—whiskey, women, weed. Nothing seemed to fill the void. Now, ten years later, she shows up out of the blue. The problem, I'm not the boy she used to know. I have a reputation that could ruin everything. Still, I have to try. Even if nothing happens between us, having Sophie in my life as a friend is better than not having her at all. Come A Little Closer is the second installment in the Georgia Boys Series. It can be read as a standalone novel.

Excerpt:
I blush and shake my head. “We should get started on the bedroom.”

Kevin follows behind me, fiddling with his phone. I refill the paint tray and set it on the bedroom floor. Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” starts playing. Kevin comes up behind me, puts his hands on my hips and begins to move them to the music. He presses against my back. My hands fall to my sides, and I tilt my head against his chest.

“This is not helping my walls get painted,” I whine.

“Come on, dance with me.” he pleads.

I turn around and stare into his eyes. It would be so easy to get lost in them but I can’t. I won’t. My hips stop moving, but Kevin’s still dancing. I raise the paintbrush that’s in my hand and slap him in the face with it. Slap sounds violent. It was more like I grazed him with cream colored paint while my hand slowly moved in front of his face. Kevin stops dancing. His jaw hangs open.

“Game on babe.”

That Guy and That Girl VBT

Blurb:
Olivia Meadows is excited to finish her senior year of college as a volleyball national champion beside her teammates and best friends. A complication arrives in the form of John Hunter, that guy, her brother’s best friend whom she has had a secret crush on since she was eleven years old. Effortlessly charming and handsome, with a body honed by years of playing football, John initiates his charm offensive and Olivia finds herself unable to resist him.

John Hunter is pumped to finish his senior year of college as a football national champion beside his teammate and best friend. The only thing missing is that girl, Olivia Meadows, his best friend’s little sister. He needed to sow some wild oats before settling down with Olivia but now he is ready for something serious with the girl he has always admired.

Be careful what you wish for. John and Olivia find themselves dealing with adult consequences very quickly and wondering if their young love can endure the pressures of adulthood. Will they find deeper love or implode from the pressures of their own making?

Excerpt:
It feels like a secret magical place. No one else is around and I can’t even hear the usual sounds of campus from here. I jump in, “Can I go first?”

I’m really proud of what I’ve written and knowing how great Olivia is with words, I don’t want to follow her. “Of course,” she answers. I face her, take out my folded paper, and grab one of her hands. I take a moment to look at her. No rush. Everything else has been so fast that I’ve barely gotten to take it in. This, I want to remember and feel.

She squeezes my hand which reassures me that I’m not alone here. We are in this together. I take a deep breath and begin. “Olivia Meadows, I didn’t know it at the time but I’ve loved you since I was sixteen years old. You generously helped me with an English paper about The Age of Innocence and that was it for me.”

She jumps in, “I remember that.” I smile back.

“My turn here,” I remind her with a grin. She holds up her hands in surrender. We hold one hand again and I return to my paper, “As I was saying…what that study session did was create a need in me that could only be filled by you. I saw the book’s world through your eyes and realized that I had been missing so much. It also showed me that, through your eyes, everything is brighter, deeper, and more. I was a little too wild then to want to slow down but I’m not now.”

Natalia, thanks so much for stopping by. So how did you get started writing?
I’ve been writing my whole life but I never really considered it “real writing.” I would make little mini books and I’ve always been a mega journaler. So in some ways, I’ve always been a writer. But if you mean, how did I get started in this form, I started in the summer of 2018 when I needed to give myself a break from screenwriting. I wanted something fun that I’d never tried to do before so a romance novel it was! I’m a lifelong fan of the genre.

What was the inspiration for your book?
I realized after I started writing it that I was inspired to write the book I would have happily binged when I was twenty-two and confused about what came next. I have a LOT in common with my main character, Olivia. When I was a senior in college I had no idea what I wanted to do and I really didn’t want to make decisions about it. Olivia faces very different other obstacles than I did though.

What’s a genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
I think if I could dream up a really cool writing scenario it would be to find someone to collaborate with who would be interested in building a post-apocalyptic or alternative history world. I’d love someone to bounce ideas off of and then we could co-write a series based in that world of ours. I wouldn’t even mind if they weren’t strictly romance as long as there was some romance in the background at least.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I don’t think it’s so much that I “won’t” read or write in any genres as much as there are some genres that I haven’t really made friends with. I don’t seem to gravitate to fantasy or paranormal but with a good solid recommendation I’d give just about anything a try. My brain is pretty grounded in reality (which isn’t always good) so for me it takes a lot to make me willingly suspend my disbelief.

What are you up to now? Do you have any releases planned, or are you still writing?
I’m in the outlining stage of a prequel novella to That Guy and That Girl. In the book we meet Kate, John’s older sister, and I decided I wanted to write her story. I also decided I wanted to try my hand at a novella. There’s something appealing to me about the length of a novella so I want to give it a try.

Alright, now for some random, fun questions. Favorite color?
Gold but that can change at any time.

Favorite movie?
Coal Miner’s Daughter—classic Sissy Spacek and so quotable.

Book that inspired you to become an author?
This changes honestly but for today, I’d say Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.

You have one superpower. What is it?
I’d love to be invisible because I’m nosy and I’d love to eavesdrop without consequences.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Wow. Hmm. Queen Oprah, my father’s mother who has passed, and Ava DuVernay

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
Olivia Meadows in That Guy and That Girl: we’re both biracial, struggle with perfectionism, twenty-two in 1992, and love handsome athletes.

That’s all from me, thanks for taking the time to stop by!
Thanks for having me, what a privilege!

The Game Changer Review Tour

Blurb:
Pretending to date your best friend is always a good idea…right? Wrong.

Greta Aske has a lot on her mind, and a string of bad dates has her giving up on men, at least for the time being. Her life contains a little too much drama, meaning she needs a break and to save money and get good grades. The perfect solution presents itself—pretend to date the campus playboy. That’ll keep the guys away for sure.

Aaron Hill is desperate to save his baseball career because, with his dad fighting cancer, he damn well knows he can’t ask for a single penny from his parents. Baseball is his past, present and future, so when a scandal threatens his chance in the MLB, he turns to his best friend for help. A fake relationship will keep him out of trouble. It’s perfect, really. Greta’s taking a break from dating and Aaron needs to focus on training.

Nothing could go wrong…as long as neither falls for the other. But when lines are crossed, what’s real and fake blurs and the two are forced to face their fears. Could Greta be the game changer Aaron needs?

Excerpt:
I groaned into his shoulder. “I would do it again if I had to.”

“I know you would, G.” He laughed softly, the first time that night. I’d missed that sound.

“There it is. I wondered if your laughing part broke.”

“Okay, no need to be dramatic.” He picked up the ice and hissed at my arm. “Promise me something.”

“No need. I already made a vow to never online date again. No, to never date again. Or at least for five years. Don’t worry. This will never happen again.”

“It better not.” His hand came around my leg, squeezing my knee. “Promise me you’ll call me if you need help. Any time. Any place. You’re one of the most important people in my goddamn life.”

“Okay.” I met his gaze and winced at the intensity in his eyes. “I promise.”

“Good.” He yawned, taking the bag off my arm. “I’m going to sleep. I’m beat.”

“Uh, should I call a cab?” I hesitated.

“Don’t be a dumbass. Sleep here. You’ve crashed on the couch countless times.” He leaned back, fluffing up the pillows and rolling over. Damn those back muscles. I want to bite them.

I pushed myself up to head downstairs when his arm wrapped around me. “Uh, Aaron?”

“Stay here. My bed is huge. Don’t make it weird.”

My Review:
4 stars

It’s refreshing to see a fake relationship story that didn’t fall into the cliché trap of the leads getting mad at each other for being in a fake relationship once feelings develop. Both characters knew what they were getting in to, and their reactions matched that perfectly, making the story feel authentic and realistic. Plus, their chemistry both as friends and as lovers was off the charts, and kept me rooting for them all the way to the end. Top that off with witty banter (the nicknames battle, as I like to call it, cracked me up), and you have a winning romantic adventure.

If you’re looking for a cute, feel-good romance, this is for you.

Can't Let Go Book Blast

Blurb:
A sweet, yet steamy new adult romance about a girl who's not ready to fall in love and a boy who isn't ready to let her go.

Beau
She is beautiful, probably the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, but she's damaged.
Her a-hole exboyfriend broke her.
I still want her.
I can show her that all men aren't the same
That I'm different.

Mallory
He's everything I need to stay away from, and I try.
I really do, but he's relentless.
So, I give in and let him have me.
All of me.
I should have known better.

Excerpt:
I throw the valet at the Sheraton Hotel my keys and hurry up the steps. A sign in the lobby welcomes guests for the Cross and Doyle wedding.

Doyle.

What kind of last name is that? Tristan Doyle. It’s a stupid name. No hesitations. Placing both hands on the white wooden door, they fly open with a thud that echoes throughout the room.

“Don’t do it!”

At least a hundred eyes turn to me, bride and groom included. It’s then I notice the bride. She’s breathtaking in her big white dress, but she’s not Mallory. Mallory stands beside the bride in a long coral gown. Her jaw is dropped. Face pale. Eyes wide. My stomach sinks to my feet. She’s horrified to see me.

Maybe this was a bad idea.

“Shoot, everyone,” I say, hands up in surrender. “Sorry. I thought Mallory was the one getting married.”

“What the fuck are you doing here, Beau?” Mallory yells from the front of the room.

“Beau?” The groom says. It’s more of a statement than a question. Mallory’s head nods once. I’m not sure if even she knows she did it.

I start up the aisle. It’s a f’ing long aisle. Or at least it feels that way. The groom meets me a few feet from the first row. He has the same dark hair and blue eyes as Mallory. This must be her brother.

He draws back. I know what’s coming. There’s no point in stopping it. I deserve this. I crushed his sister’s heart. I barged into his wedding. My face jolts to the left when his fist connects with my cheek. A sticky liquid leaks from my nose. I wipe it with the back of my hand. Blood. Great.

Cross Drop Review Tour

Blurb:
Nikki

I’m not a saint. Never claimed to be. I’ve played the game and scored my fair share—both on and off the field. This is why I should have known better than to fall for a hockey player. But I did. I fell fast and hard.

Now I’m left with the painful consequences, reminded every day of how reckless I had been by giving him my heart so easily—so willingly. Dalt broke me in the cruelest of ways, and because of him I’ll never be able to love again.

Dalt

Nikki changed me. She made me want to be a better man. My days playing off the field were over because she owned every little piece of my heart…until she left, leaving behind a gnawing ache where my heart used to be.

Now she’s back, and it’s painfully clear she hates me, ignoring me, pretending like I’m nobody to her. But that’s just too damn bad. I want answers. I want a goddamn explanation.

And most of all…I want her.

Excerpt:
“Hey.” The intelligent greeting the only thing I could think of to say.
When she looked up and hit me with those baby blues I had to remind myself to breathe.

“Hey.” One word. That was it and she started walking off the field toward the field house. I stood baffled for a moment. I’d never had a problem talking to a girl before and they usually didn’t walk away from me when I did. I ran to catch up to her.

“Great game. You were amazing out there.”

“Yeah, thanks.” She just kept walking, even picked up the pace like she was trying to get away from me.

“I’m…I’m Dalt by the way.” Like an idiot I stuck my hand out to shake hers. She stopped and stared at my outstretched hand but didn’t make a move because her hands were full with her bag and some of the equipment.

“I know who you are, hockey boy.” The words ‘hockey boy’ came out like they
tasted sour on her tongue. And she started walking away from me again. I couldn’t believe it. When I caught up to her, she stopped and turned to me.

“What do you want, hockey boy?” She threw me off my game so bad, I think I stuttered.

“I…um…your name would be nice for starters.”

“For starters?” She quirked a brow.

“Then I thought you might like to get a beer or a burger or something at the Thirsty Whale.” She scanned my body from head to toe and back up. Then the damnedest thing happened.

“No thanks. I don’t do dates. Not looking for a boyfriend. I just like to, you know, keep my options open.” Say what, now! Had she just turned me down for a date?

My Review:
3 stars

To start off, I’m not a big sports person at all, so I was more interested in the romance here than the sports, which was a big part of the book, which partially affects my review. Just an FYI before we get started.

Now then…the beginning started off shaky, with the characters coming across as shallow and over-the-top about how amazing the other was. Once the drama kicked in though, the story picked up and hit its stride. Seeing the characters grow due to their circumstances was nice. My favorite part was the humor in the writing and character interactions, which bumped this up to a solid 3 for me.

While I enjoyed the story, I did have some issues with it. The miscommunication behind their breakup was flimsy at best, so I felt a little cheated on that storyline. In addition, I was a little irritated with Dalt’s reactions, particularly to Nikki’s secret, especially since I felt he was partially to blame. Yes, she should have told you, but she had her reasons, and you never bothered to check in with her. So, I was a little irritated with how that was handled and Dalt in general.

All in all, this was an okay read for me, though I would recommend it to sports romance readers.

Flip the Beat Blurb Blitz

Blurb:
WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR

Molly Ivers thought she found Prince Charming, but without a devilishly sexy accent, and six months ago she gave into their undeniable attraction. But the swarm of ever-present groupies was so not part of the fairy tale. As much as it hurt her heart, she shut out rocker Evan Castle.

Now, on the verge of finishing her graduate degree and moving to Paris—she even hires a French life coach—Molly begins to realize Evan, who hasn't given up on her, might be the man of her dreams after all.

Excerpt:
“Thanks, guys.” Evan’s smooth voice came over the mic while the guitar music died. “We’re gonna take a quick break, but we’ll be back in ten, so stick around.” He hopped off the low stage to scattered applause and whistles. Molly schooled the smirk on her face as he sidled past the flirting girls and made his way toward their table.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Wonder Twins, TWT, Inc.”

He slid into the empty space beside Molly in the booth. She exchanged an amused look with Nell. He’d christened them with the moniker upon moving in. They were never Nell and Molly, but Fischer and Ivers, TWT. Their eye color, skin, and facial features couldn’t be more different, but they were both the same height, petite-figured, and had wide, generous mouths and lots of hair.

“So, where’s the right-wing Republican boyfriend tonight?” he asked.

He stretched his arm over the back of Molly’s seat in a casual way. His forefinger grazed the edge of her earlobe, and a pleasant shiver ran through her.

“I thought you two were attached at the hip.”

Molly went silent and looked at her drink. Great, here it came.

“They broke up,” Nell chipped in.

Molly gave her a look of mock gratitude from across the table as Evan turned to her in surprise. His sexy hazel eyes searched hers. She waited for one of his classic Evan Castle comments, but the solemnity in his expression told her he wouldn’t give any.

He whistled low. “Sorry, Ivers, that sucks. You guys were together for a while.”

She hid her cringe as she took another sip of her drink. “Yeah…” Gulp, gulp, uncomfortable silence.

The drummer in Evan’s band called over to him, and Evan told him he’d be right there. He rapped his knuckles on the table and flashed them both a flirty smile.

“Well, Ivers,” he said as he slid out of the booth. “You’ll have a lot of attention to deal with, now that you’re back in the jungle with the rest of us primates. Do me a favor, eh, and don’t forget to put a bag over your head when you go out from now on, or you’ll have every guy in the room at your feet and beating down your door. Then I’ll never be able to talk to you.” He gave her a cheeky wink and walked off.

Molly turned crimson. Nell mouthed, Wow! as she put her palm over heart, and her jaw dropped open. They watched him walk off.

“What a compliment and a half! I did wonder why you two never got together. He always looks at you like he’s about to walk you against a wall and have at you.”

“What? No, he looks at all the girls like that. He’s just sweet and being a total flirt.” Molly waved it off, but her heartbeat accelerated as she remembered when he had, indeed, taken her against a wall their third time the night they’d spent together.
