Today is
Ugly Sweater Day! It seems that ugly sweaters have now become the new “it”
thing to do during the holiday season. It has gone from being the worried
about, worst part of Christmas to becoming a sort of badge of pride.
Now, people strive to find the ugliest sweaters possible, often purposefully making them ugly. I’ve seen more ugly sweaters than Christmas shirts in stores this year alone. Even companies like Starbucks are getting in on the ugly sweater craze. My friend and I went in this week and got these adorable ugly sweater reusable Christmas sleeves on our cups.
While
I don’t really have an ugly Christmas sweater, I do have this one, which is
super comfortable, which means it gets pulled out fairly often even if it’s not
Christmas time.
What do
you think about this craze? Do you like participating, or do you want nothing to do
with them? Share your thoughts and pictures of your ugliest Christmas sweater
(along with your email address) below, and the person with the ugliest sweater
wins a $5 Amazon GC. Bonus points to whoever can name the movie this quote comes from.
Since
I’m currently up finishing my comic for my final today, I want to share two of
my favorite Hanukkah videos that I enjoy watching when I need a break. Enjoy
and have a great day!

Today,
I want to talk about international Human Rights Day. Human
Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on December 10. This
date was chosen to honor the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and
proclamation, on December 10, 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, the first global enunciation of human rights.
Human Rights Logo
This
Declaration covers a wide range of political, civil, economic, social and
cultural rights. Even though it is technically not a binding document, it
inspired more than 60 human rights instruments which constitute an
international standard of human rights. Today, the general consent of all
United Nations Member States on the basic human rights laid down in the
Declaration makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of human rights.
The Declaration is now the most translated document in the world except for the
Bible.
This
is one of the most widely celebrated days internationally and it is on this day
that the five-yearly United Nations Prizes in the Field of Human Rights and
the Nobel Peace Prizes are traditionally awarded. The theme for 2015 is

A place to belong and strong arms to hold him—but will this
shifter get what he needs?
After
being rescued and taken to the Sanctuary, a refuge for lion shifters, Talisman
knows he’s safe. But he’s restless. All the other shifters have paired up,
except Talisman and one other shifter. The guy is fine, but he doesn’t make
Talisman’s heart beat or his lion roar. Talisman refuses to give up looking for
what he wants, but he never expected love to come running, stark naked, through
a hole in the fence.
Davi
doesn’t understand what’s happened to him. One minute, he’s a happy lion at the
petting zoo. The next, he’s being hunted and humans want to use his head as a
trophy. When his hope is almost gone, two lions appear to show him an escape
route. At the Sanctuary, he realizes his power to shift and the desires of a
human male. He doesn’t trust humans, but there’s one shifter he wants to know better.
Talisman
and Davi must decide whether to give in to their animal urges or let the ghosts
of the past tear their world apart for good. No matter what they choose,
there’s one person who doesn’t want anyone, especially the shifters, to get
their happy ending. As Talisman and Davi seek forever, it just might be ripped
right out of their hands.
The guy
waited for the longer haired man to walk away then he sat in the grass. He
didn’t say anything, remaining quiet.
Davi
watched him, unsure what to do. His cat wanted to sniff out the stranger and
scope out the situation. Did Davi trust his cat? Yes, but not that man.
Neither
Davi or the guy sitting in the grass moved for what seemed like forever.
Finally, the man spoke. “Davi? My name is Talisman. I don’t know if you
remember me from the petting zoo, but I was there with you.” He didn’t look at
Davi or even in Davi’s direction. “I think I’m a few months older than you. I
remember being in the pens, having the kids pet us and feeling wonderful. Then
the good feelings stopped. I know you’re scared. I was scared, too. Unlike the
humans at the petting zoo, we won’t hurt you here.”
Davi
debated sitting up but remained hunched down. Maybe, he could trust Talisman,
but he didn’t remember him.
“It’s
scary. You’ve shifted, and you don’t understand why. I know. I’ve been there. I
didn’t shift until I was safe, but when it happened, I didn’t understand what
was going on. It’s okay.” He glanced over to where Davi hid. “If you don’t come
out, I can’t help you. I promise. I won’t hurt you, and I’ll help you get used
switching between your cat and human forms.”
“No.”
Davi kept hiding, but decided to at least try to talk to Talisman.
“Can you
come out?” Talisman crawled across the grass, closer to Davi. “Would it help if
I shifted?” He didn’t wait for an answer. Instead, he yanked his shirt up over
his head then stood and shoved his pants down his legs. He kicked out of the
boots and stood nude before Davi.
Davi
watched Talisman move. Wow. He’d never seen a naked man before, but if that’s
what they looked like, he liked what he saw. His cat wasn’t upset, either.
Talisman
dropped to his knees and placed his hands in the grass. He lowered his head
then wriggled. Fur sprouted on Talisman’s shoulders and back. His teeth
elongated and a growl ripped from his throat. The fur spread down his chest to
his belly and covered his legs. His hands and feet shifted into paws. When he
shook his head, thick fur sprouted behind his ears and beneath his chin. Before
Davi’s eyes, the man shifted into the lion. Buy Link

Joining us today is Layla Dorine. She's sharing a specially written Christmas story featuring characters from her new novel, Broken Prince, Mismatched Eyes. Enjoy!
Caden stumbled back from the garderobe, fully intent on falling back into bed with his husband, Rhys, when his eyes caught sight of the countryside outside their window and his eyes lit up with glee. Sometime during the course of the night snow had begun to fall on Mauritania, and now the rolling hills and steep cliffs were covered in white as far as the eye could see.
Fat fluffy flakes clung together in clumps on tree branches and leaves, hiding the green and what remained of the fall colors. Beside him, Titus’ ears perked up as they watched a rabbit zig zag his way across the fresh powder, leaving a trail of tracks in his wake. Everything sparkled and twinkled in the early morning light as excitement built in Caden’s belly and spilled over into a joyful laugh.
He raced back to the pile of furs in front of the fireplace where Rhys still slept, mostly buried in their warmth. Only the top of his head was visible as Caden dropped to his knees beside him and began shaking him awake.
“Ugm…” Rhys muttered, rolling over and completely disappearing into the mound.
“Rhys, please get up, it’s snowing.”
“All the more reason to stay right where I am,” Rhys muttered.
“It’s beautiful out there, staying in here would be wasting it.”
“Staying in here would mean being safe from the cold, the ice and all the chances to slip and fall,” Rhys grumbled, then squawked in outrage as Caden grabbed hold of the furs and peeled them away.
Leaning in, Caden licked the stripe of flesh from Rhys’ navel to his throat, causing his husband to shiver and let out a low groan.
“Show me Mauritania like this,” Caden pleaded softly. “If you slip, I’ll steady you. If you fall, I’ll pick you back up. Please, Rhys. I want to see how beautiful it is all covered in snow, then we can come back and I promise I’ll warm you.”
Rhys groaned and squeezed his eyes shut. “I’m going to hold you to that promise.”
Caden threw his arms around his husband and hugged him tight, and the hounds, as if on cue, descended upon Rhys to lick his face.
“Okay, okay,” Rhys laughed, trying to fend them off. “I’m moving already!”
“Come on boys, give him some space, you’ve licked him enough now.”
The big hounds huffed but backed away, tongues lolling out of their mouths as their tails wagged joyfully.
Caden reached down to pull his husband up, and Rhys clasped his hand, then yanked him down into the furs and tickled him mercilessly. Caden bucked and twisted, laughing, hiccupping and trying to shove Rhys’ hands away but it seemed like they were everywhere.
“I give, I give,” Caden gasped, tears leaking from the corners of his eyes he was laughing so hard.
“Oh I can think of many, many things you can give me,” Rhys purred, right by his ear as he ceased tickling. “But you want to go outside.”
With a laugh, Rhys stumbled to his feet, but quickly got his balance and bad leg under control. Caden stared after him as he headed to the wardrobe, admiring the muscular plains of his husbands back before he picked himself up and started dressing for the cold.
Outside, the snow was still falling gently, and while the wind blew gusts of cold air down from the mountains it was nothing like the howling thunder storms the season before.
Caden raced outside, laughing, with Titus and Brutus on his heels. Rhys followed more slowly and carefully, reaching the door as Cadan threw his arms wide and began to spin around while trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue. A small smile stretched across Rhys’ face he watched his husband for a moment, before he gathered up a handful of snow and slowly began to creep up on him.
The snow he flung, intended to be packed tight, came apart in the air and blew into Caden’s hair, coating the dark strands with a glittering of white. Caden turned, a devilish look in his eyes as he scooped up his own handful of snow and advanced on Rhys.
“Wait,” Rhys said, slowly trying to backpedal. “Can’t we talk about this; negotiate?”
Caden seemed to pause, as if considering it, before reaching out to catch the front of Rhys’ fur coat and stuffing the entire handful of snow down it. Rhys howled and shook, which brought twin looks of confused amusement from the hounds as Caden laughed.
“Nope, I don’t think we can,” he said, before gathering Rhys in his arms and pulling him in for a kiss. Rhys snuggled against him, partly for warmth, but also because he loved being close to his husband and for a moment, they simply stood there as Caden’s gaze drifted over the countryside, taking it all in.
“Let’s take a walk up the hill, I want to show you something,” Rhys said, as he took Caden’s hand in his.
They fell into step easily, Caden having learned to modify his longer strides to ones that Rhys could more easily keep up with. As they reached the middle of the hill, however, Rhys paused and gazed up into his husband’s face.
“Close your eyes,” Rhys insisted.
With a nod, Caden complied, trusting him completely, and with Rhys guiding him, they finished climbing the hill. With his arms wrapped around Caden, Rhys stood on his toes and whispered in his husband’s ear.
“Open them.”
Caden opened his eyes and let out a soft gasp. Below them, in the valley, was the manor house and the trees boarding it, covered in show, the windows lit with a soft glow.
“It’s…beautiful,” Caden murmured.
“Just like you,” Rhys replied. “The only joy I ever expected to experience was from trying to grow to be the best leader I could possibly be for my people. After the accident, I stopped hopping that anyone would every fully see me as a man again. Thank you for changing all of that. Tomorrow, when we ride home for the Yule feast, I’ll already have the greatest gift anyone could have ever given me. In you.”
Caden turned and kissed him passionately, snow drifting down to cling to their clothes and hair, melting when their fingers grazed against it, tangling in the strands.
As they drew apart, Caden cupped Rhys’ face in his hand and gazed down into his eyes. “You’ve given me something I never thought I would have as well: a home and a family that loves me. You gave me you and there is no one more wondrous in the whole of this world.”
Stepping back, Caden reached into the pack he’d slung over his shoulder and retrieved from it a cloth wrapped bundle, which he quickly unwrapped, revealing a sleek, honey colored log.
“Anwen told me about your tradition of giving a Yule log to the one you love and burning it together in the hearth while sharing your hopes, dreams and wishes for the upcoming year. I like it a lot more than dragging home a whole tree and burning it while drinking and eating to excess the way we’d always done it on the mainland. Makes it special, at least, it does to me.”
Now it was Rhys’ turn to drag his husband into a round of rowdy kisses while the hounds rolled and played in the snow around them.
“You make everything special to me,” Rhys declared when he finally broke away, shivering a little. “Come on, let’s go back inside. I believe you have a promise to keep to me.”
Grinning, Caden whistled to the dogs who fell in beside them as he began leading Caden down the hill. “It will be my pleasure.”
“No,” Rhys replied with a wide smile. “The pleasure will be ours.”

Rhys
is the prince of the small island country of Mauritania, a land rich in gems,
rose oil, and pearls, but poor in skilled artisans and seeds to grow crops. In
order to further cement the trade route to the mainland, he’s been sent to
marry a man he’s never met, and bring him back to Mauritania. Unfortunately, an
accident years before has left Rhys with a lot of emotional baggage and very
little trust in strangers.
But
trust is exactly what Caden and Rhys are going to need if they are to make a
life together, and help unravel the mystery of who’s been smuggling valuable
gems and pearls off the island. Add in the realization that Caden’s stepmother,
Mildred and her island representative, Maxwell, have been importing inferior
goods for years, forcing Mauritania to become more dependent on them, and trust
becomes even more difficult.
Caden
possesses the knowledge to finally allow Rhys’ father to unravel the plot to
ruin Mauritania, but only if the king and his son are willing to put their
faith in Caden’s loyalty to his new home. Something that is difficult to do
after Caden is accused of cheating on his marriage vows to Rhys with his guard,
Luc. Will Rhys believe him innocent? Or will their marriage be over before it
truly has a chance to begin?

Can the geeky teacher moonlighting as a rock and roll metal
god find the one man to see both sides and want it all with him?
Ever
since Michael Jepsen walked into Cedarwood Elementary and spotted Niall
Grayson, he’s been hooked. He wants to explore every inch of the sexy third
grade teacher in all sorts of hot ways. But Michael has a secret—during the
summer months, he morphs into his alter ego, Bandit, and rocks stages all
across the country. Can he keep his job at the school, while living the rock
and roll lifestyle and snag the man of his dreams?
Niall
Grayson never thought he’d catch Michael’s eye. Becoming more than good friends
never crossed his mind. He’s not good at letting people into his private life
and he prefers to keep his heart guarded, but something about Michael makes him
want to open up. Will he be able to accept the different facets of Michael or
will the relationship fail before it gets started?
He
debated what to say. Be honest and screw things up now? Or just keep his mouth
shut?
“If you
don’t tell me, I’ll pester it out of you.” Michael munched on his slice of
pizza. “Is it a kid? One of the other teachers? Me?”
Oh boy…
“I’m not afraid of being alone. I get I’m a geeky guy who talks football and
stats. I like my comic books and superhero movies. I know my limits, and I’m
not the kind of guy who hooks the hot man. I don’t understand why you’re
interested in me.” There. He’d been honest. “I’m not sure what you expect. If
you want a quickie or a one-night, I’m not sure it’ll work. Let me know now so
I can deal accordingly.” He gripped the plate so tight the edge ripped.
“You cut
right to the chase once you open up.” He moved the plate to the glass-top
coffee table. “I’m not a ‘couple of dates, a fuck, and it’s over’ kind of guy.
If I say I like you, it’s because I’m interested.”
“Oh.” He
wasn’t sure what to think.
“Now.”
Michael took the plate from Niall and scooted closer on the couch. “About that
confidence issue.” He curled his fingers under Niall’s chin. “I like comic-book
movies and football too.”
“But…”
Michael
placed his thumb over Niall’s lips. “It’s been hard sharing a hallway with
you.” His knees brushed against Niall’s, and his breath warmed Niall’s cheeks.
“We were friends and I knew you weren’t interested in becoming more because of
our jobs, but it was difficult. I wanted to spend time with you doing more than
talking about school. You’re very sexy.”
“In a
geeky way,” he said around Michael’s thumb. He sucked Michael’s thumb into his
mouth. Maybe if he redirected Michael, they’d stop talking about his lack of
self-confidence and get down to what he knew Michael wanted—sex.
“You’re
teasing me.” Michael eased his thumb from between Niall’s lips. “You’re
dangerous. You almost made me forget what I wanted to say.”

For today’s
post, I have the pleasure of sharing Rhys Ethan’s fairy tale Christmas story, Sleeping Beauty’s Stolen Kiss!
Once upon a time, there were two Princes,
Summer and Bryar, and after the latter had woken the former from his hundred
years of sleep, they were finally together again and the entire palace was in
preparation for their wedding.
In the month of December and as their
wedding day approached, the entire kingdom was covered in snow and festive
decorations, for Christmas was fast approaching. In fact, the two young royals
would be getting married on Christmas Eve, have Christmas dinner with their
family and friends and then riding off to one of their winter houses for their
honeymoon.
The day before the wedding, Queen Kylie
arrived from her private residence on the South. She took Summer away from all
the frivolous wedding organisers to visit the villages for the dedicated tour
of the prince before his wedding, where all his people could give their
blessings to their future ruler.
Naturally, Summer did more than he was
meant to. He had his fairy godmothers to blame for that. They had all gifted
him with too much kindness for his own good.
He helped some carry their logs inside the
house and next to the fireplace, some wives cook their food while they were
tending to their children, and listened to everyone’s problems and what he’d
have to address once he was back at the palace.
He also visited the orphanage, where all
the children crowded around him and asked to be read a story in his melodic
voice. All the children, that was, but for one little girl who was standing in
the corner of the room, staring at Summer and biting her nails. Summer was too
far in the story to stop and ask her to come closer, so instead, he sneaked
glances her way and caught the blue of her eyes in the firelight every once in
a while.
When he returned to the palace, he was
exhausted and all he wanted to do was to curl into Bryar’s arms and stay there
until the next morning, but the two were kept at separate wings until they met
at the altar.
The morning after, Summer walked down the
church aisle towards his one true love with a wide smile on his face. Bryar
looked breathtaking in his royal suit, which was tinged with deep emerald
colours.
The priestess awaited them at the end of
the room, with all her tools in front of her, laid on the table. When the two
lovers reunited, she opened a book in her hands, asked the guests to take a
seat and began chanting her spiritual words.
“Do you, Prince Summer of the Rose Gardens
take Prince Bryar as thy lawfully wedded husband?” she asked.
“I do,” Summer replied not missing a beat.
The priestess addressed Bryar. “Do you,
Prince Bryar, take Prince Summer of the Rose Gardens as thy lawfully wedded
husband?”
“I do,” Bryar said.
“Then with the power invested in me by the
Gods, may you seal this ritual with a kiss and may you be so pronounced husband
and husband,” she cited and closed her book, waiting for the couple’s kiss.
However, when they tried to kiss, they
couldn’t.
“What’s going on? What happened?” Bryar
enquired.
Summer looked over to his fairy godmothers.
“My kiss. I think…” he turned to Bryar, “it’s been stolen.”
Everyone gasped. The fairies of the Rainbow
and Queen Skylar gathered around the prince trying to figure out what had
happened.
“When was the last time you had your kiss?”
Fairy Ananda asked him.
Summer tried to think. “I certainly had it
yesterday. Mother and I went to the village for the prince’s tour and I visited
lots of people,” he explained.
“Yes, he definitely had it when we visited
the orphanage. That was the last place we went to,” Queen Skylar added.
Pius, Bryar’s loyal friend and page jumped
in and raised his fist in the air. “It must be one of the darned children. One
of them stole the prince’s kiss. Let’s go. Let’s go and find the little thief.”
And so they did. The two princes, the
fairies of the Rainbow, Queen Skylar, Pius and the priestess rushed to the
orphanage to find Sleeping Beauty’s stolen kiss so that he could complete the
wedding ritual.
The mistress of the home called all the
children in the hall and told them what had happened. Then, Pius interrupted
her and asked for the perpetrator to come forward and give the future king his
kiss back. None of the children did. Queen Skylar pleaded with them. None of
the kids stepped up. Then the fairies did too, but yet again, none of the children
confessed. Last, but not least, Prince Summer and Bryar stood before everyone
and begged the children to return Summer’s kiss so that they could be together.
But everyone remained quiet.
Bryar noticed a girl in the corner of the
room, staring at both of them and hugging her doll very tight. She was the only
one that was sitting so far away from the rest of the group.
Bryar nudged Summer and told him about the
girl. “She’s been staring at us ever since we arrived.”
“I remember her,” Summer jumped. “She was
there yesterday when I was reading to the children, but she kept to a corner
and stared at me the whole time.”
“Maybe it’s her,” Bryar suggested and
approached the mistress to ask about the girl.
The mistress pursed her lips before she
answered. “She was just brought in a couple of weeks ago. She lost her parents
in a fire and she hasn’t talked since. There is a rumour around her village
that her parents were witches and that they burned themselves by accident while
trying to cook up a potion,” the mistress explained.
Bryar and Summer looked at each other’s
eyes and knew they had to talk to the little girl. So they approached her and
sat down on their knees.
“Hello, little one, what’s your name?”
Bryar asked.
The girl gawked at them without replying.
“I’m Bryar and this is Prince Summer. You
remember him? He was here yesterday,” he continued.
The girl nodded.
“Did you happen to take anything from
Prince Summer before he went back to the palace? You can tell us the truth,”
Bryar asked, placing his hand on top of Summer’s.
The girl nodded again.
“What did you take?” Summer smiled.
The girl bent forward and kissed Prince
Summer’s cheek. “Your kiss,” she said in the sweetest voice they had ever
heard.
Summer looked at Bryar and laughed. “She
gave it back,” he said.
“Thank you, so much,” Bryar told her. “But
why did you take it in the first place?”
The girl hesitated but answered the
Prince’s question. “Because I want a family.”
The princes bawled and squeezed each
other’s hand. “What is your name, little one?” Summer asked her.
“I don’t know,” she replied.
“How old are you?”
“I’m three,” this time she smiled because
she knew the answer.
Bryar took the little girl’s hand in his.
“Did you steal the prince’s kiss, because you want us to be your family?”
The girl nodded and looked down, blushing.
Summer looked at Bryar and they both knew
what each other was thinking.
“We want you to be our family too,” Bryar
announced.
The girl looked up. “Really?”
The princes nodded and hugged the little
girl. “We have to give you a name, too,” Summer suggested.
“Can I be Bryar?” she asked.
Bryar laughed. “I am Bryar, sweetheart.”
“But I like it,” she insisted.
“I’ll tell you what. You can be Briar-Rose.
Sounds more like you. What do you think?”
The girl bounced and clapped her hands. “I
am Briar-Rose, I am Briar-Rose,” she sang over and over.
The priestess stepped forward and
interrupted Briar-Rose’s singsong. “Do you have the kiss back, my prince?”
They both nodded.
“Then by all means, seal your marriage with
a kiss,” she urged them.
And so they did. Summer and Bryar kissed.
And they kissed Briar-Rose’s cheeks too.
The priestess turned to the children and
the adult attendees and raised her hands in the air. “I present you with King
Summer, King Bryar and Princess Briar-Rose.”
The kings adopted Briar-Rose that same day
and she was the happiest child in the kingdom because she had found a family to
love her and care for her. And so every year, on Christmas Eve the royal family
would celebrate their love for one another by helping out around the kingdom,
always putting the happiness and safety of their people before theirs. And
because of them, they all lived happily ever after.
