Demon of Envy SBB

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Jennifer will be awarding a $25 Amazon Gift Card, plus a signed print copy of GODS OF LOVE (1-3) and a set of the GODS OF LOVE cover postcards to a randomly drawn winner via the rafflecopter at the end of this post, during the tour (International Giveaway).

Phthonos, god of envy and jealousy, has been given a second chance at life and love in the mortal realm. He is desperate to make up for the mistakes of his past. But is Thon more demon than god? And if the demon Envy wins out, how will this lonely god ever find room in his heart for love?

Olivia is an ordinary woman living an ordered life, but at thirty-two true romance appears to have eluded her. Everywhere she looks people are in relationships or falling in love, but her career as an administrator and her charity work are enough to keep the demon of envy at bay.

Or so she thinks…until the moment he turns up on her doorstep with a demand that rips her life and her heart wide open and leaves her at risk of eternal torment.

DEMON OF ENVY is the fifth novella in the GODS OF LOVE series, but each story is designed as a stand-alone with the Greek gods of desire as a common theme. The series can be read in any order.

Excerpt:
"You want me to walk through the fires of Hell to save you? Phthonos, you ask too much."

"Not to save me, Olivia. To save yourself." The dark tone of his correction shivered down her spine in a sensation that was equal parts fear and desire. She knew this was a dream; had relived the sleep-induced fiction every night this week. She needed to wake up before the bit where he started to burn, where she reached toward him and…oh God, the flames were consuming him already. It was too fast, too powerful…his beautiful face twisted in pain, the clear green eyes flashing desperation as he stretched out a clutching hand…she leaned in, connected with his fingers, and the greedy flames engulfed her too…

For the sixth time that week Liv sat bolt upright in bed, the scream still lodged in her throat and the bedcovers in a twisted mess around her legs. Sweat coated her body. Not the heady exotic scent of post-coital perspiration, either. No. This was the sharp acrid scent of sheer terror, of illness. Of something wrong at her core.

She reached for the brown hair tie on her wrist and snapped it. Once. Twice. A third time. Count to three, then snap again, over and over, the rhythm so familiar by now she didn't need to think. Gradually her heart stopped its uncomfortable thumping and her breathing began to even out. The anxiety attack was receding.

One last snap of the wrist band, the one for luck that she always had to finish with, and she was back in control once again. A swift kick with her left foot removed the sheet and she climbed wearily out of bed before turning back to straighten the tangled covers. Phthonos. Whoever the heck you are, whichever little piece of my imagination that you sprang from, you need to let me get some sleep, hon.

Rescued by the Buccaneer VBT

Blurb:
When Frederica Beauchamp boards a ship for the Americas, she dreams of a life filled with adventure, but she gets more than she bargained for when her passenger ship is attacked by pirates. The heartless men kidnap her and force her to serve their captain—a fate that might be worse than death, since though he does not have his way with her, the captain delights in baring her, shaming her, and thrashing her bare bottom as punishment for every imagined disobedience.

After the pirates bring aboard an injured man found floating in the sea, Frederica tends to his wounds and learns that he is Gaston Galette, a survivor of a shipwrecked vessel. Gaston seeks her help to overthrow the vile captain, but when their plan goes awry he is forced to use all of his wiles to save them. As the naïve girl and the seasoned sailor navigate one perilous situation after another, he informs Frederica that the only way they can survive is if he is in command, and that if she thinks things can be otherwise, she will be taken over his knee for a bare bottom spanking.

As he watches the proud, willful Frederica bow to his authority, however, Gaston worries that her growing hold on his heart will be his downfall. He knows he cannot take a woman with him when he returns to his ship and crew, but when Frederica accepts his lustful dominance completely, submitting to him with grace and beauty no other woman could match, Gaston realizes that he may never be able to let her go.

Publisher’s Note: Rescued by the Buccaneer is the first book of the Pirates of the Jolie Rouge trilogy. It is an adventure and erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes including elements of BDSM and humiliation, and more.

Excerpt:
As he removed his shirt, she couldn’t help but notice his burnished skin rippled with muscles. His biceps bulged, and the planes of his stomach appeared to be carved with a knife. Long matted hair formed thin locks that fell past his shoulders, making him appear wild, yet with a hint of civility and charm. And rather handsome for a drowned bilge rat.

The man bowed dramatically at the waist. “Mademoiselle, I am Gaston Galette. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”

She nodded curtly. “You are French?”

“Oui, oui. Do you speak French?” he asked.

She shook her head no.

“A pity. The French language is exquisite—not unlike yourself.” He lifted an eyebrow flirtatiously.

She crossed her arms over her chest. “I see. My name is Frederica Beauchamp. My ancestors did speak French, but alas, I am only an Englishwoman. Is that the injury of which they speak?” She pointed at the red gash.

“Aye.”

“Let us find something to clean it with.” She nodded to Bradford.

Bradford escorted them to a small room below deck and brought a number of supplies, including turpentine, soapy water, rags, and bandages. He also gave Gaston a cup of grog to drink before excusing himself.

Gaston perched on a barrel against the wall. Frederica knelt beside him, dipping a rag into the bucket of soapy water.

“The sea water is a blessing and a curse. The brine cleanses the wound, but the water can introduce infection as well.” She laid her hand on his knee, causing him to jump.

She giggled. “Calm yourself. I haven’t done anything yet.” Then she poured a cupful of the turpentine into the cut. He winced as the antiseptic permeated the broken skin.

“You know what you’re doing?” he asked, his voice strained.

“My father was a physician. I picked up a few things.”

“Now what is a physician’s daughter doing sailing the ocean with this motley crew of scallywags?” His dark eye twinkled.

“Long story,” she said, wiping the wound with the rag.

He leaned back and set his feet up on another barrel. “I’ve got nothing but time, Princess.”

Ignoring him, she asked, “What happened to your eye?”

“Wood splinter. Canon fire can be a nasty business. Here,” he said reaching for the rag. “I’d like to cleanse it.” He lifted the patch away from his eye, at the same time shielding Frederica from seeing the site of the eye injury and dabbed at it, squeezing the rag until soapy water dripped down and dribbled off his well-trimmed beard.

“I’m supposed to do that,” she said.

He smiled and handed her back the rag. “You may finish up, my dear.”

“What makes you think you can call me that?” She pushed back, hands settling on her hips.

He sighed as if he found her tiresome. “I just did, didn’t I?”

She folded her arms and gave him a dirty look. “I’m not your dear,” she said through gritted teeth. “You may call me Frederica or Miss Beauchamp.”

“I see. And how did you come to join a pirate crew, Frederica?”

She softened. “I’m not a member of the crew. I am their prisoner, taken on my way to the colonies.”

“Taken? So that’s how you wound up with this scurrilous crew.”

“I was aboard the passenger ship, the Adelaide, when Captain Humphrey and his men attacked us.” The corners of her mouth fell.

“What happened?”

“They stole everything of value, then killed everyone.” She shrugged at the senseless loss of life and dropped her eyes to the floor.

“How did you escape?”

“Captain Humphrey took me as his prisoner.”

The Complete Check Your Luck Agency VBT

Blurb:
Sometimes life is stranger than fiction.

After the tragic death of her parents, and with nothing left tying her to the United Kingdom, Ursula Formosa returns to her homeland and a job with the eccentrically-named Singapore firm, “The Check Your Luck Agency”.

What begins as an attempt to stave off boredom turns into a new way of life as the scales drop from Ursula’s eyes and she tentatively enters a realm that contains vengeful ghosts, toyol, demons, pontianak and curses, not to mention old-fashioned fraud and larceny. As she befriends bomohs, mediums and a young woman already centuries old, Ursula’s ideas of friendship expand into a fresh view of the world that surrounds her.
But she isn’t going to be left to ease into things. A criminal mastermind, who is also a powerful sorcerer, is gathering mythical creatures to help him possess every living soul in Singapore, and he isn’t about to let the members of The Check Your Luck Agency stand in his way!

Excerpt: “I think it was Fiona who chose me,” I laughed. “She had the craziest ad in a newspaper one weekend, and I was mulling my options at the time. It was a fortunate confluence of circumstance, as she’d say.”
“You mean you didn’t train to become a paranormal investigator?” he asked with a smile. It dented his cheeks, giving him dimples to go with those liquid eyes, smooth voice and engaging manner. I swallowed. I was in serious trouble.
“I don’t see myself as a paranormal investigator,” I corrected him.
I knew Fiona’s views on the Agency’s work and my own differed markedly, but I wasn’t going to lie to the smooth-skinned, extremely handsome man seated across the table from me.
“I’ll admit I’m the sceptic of the company,” I began. “In fact, in every case I’ve handled in the past six months, not a single one ended up being attributed to supernatural causes.”
“Not one?” He was clearly incredulous.

“I certainly haven’t seen them,” I demurred. “So far, ten out of ten times, the ‘bad luck’ dogging our clients has been down to greedy relatives, unscrupulous business practices or malicious ex-lovers.”
“Not one case of hauntings or possession or things that go bump in the night? Not one instance where you’ve seen something you can’t explain?”
Yes! Tell him!
I looked him straight in the face. “No. Nothing like that at all.”
K.S, thanks so much for stopping by. So, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Hmmm. Okay. I'm a Malaysian-born, Western-educated writer. I've worked on three continents and visited one, so only three more to go (Africa, South America and Antarctica)! I love bull terriers and Maine Coon cats and am amazed at how much personality my koi fish have!

How did you get started writing?
Did you have a diary when you were a kid? I did! I guess that's where it came from, as well as reruns of Darren McGavin's “Nightstalker” series. A wise-cracking journalist investigating paranormal phenomena? Of course I wanted to be like him!

What was the inspiration for your book?
The people of Malaysia and Singapore were. Coming back to live here was/is an interesting experience. There are items in the newspaper every day about curses, love potions, black magic, spells. And people talk about it too. You can't get away from it.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
At some point, I'd like to try my hand at a horror or maybe even a crime/thriller. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King and Jeffery Deaver. Interesting, isn't it? I must have forty or fifty horror/crime books on my shelves, yet I've never written one!

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
No. I've learnt my lesson by now...never say never. :)

So, what are you working on right now? Got any releases planned, or still writing?
I normally have the next two to three years of writing planned out. I'm polishing Book 3 of my PERDITION space opera series before passing it to my editors, plotting Book 4, and also beginning work on Book 2 of my QOLARI DIPLOMATIC CORPS space opera series. In addition to that, I have a few rights' reversion books that need rework and a new fantasy series that needs to be plotted out.
Alright, now for some totally random, fun questions. Favorite color? Grey.
Favorite movie? Blade Runner.
Book that inspired you to become an author?
Harry Harrison's THE STAINLESS STEEL RAT SAVES THE WORLD.
Alright, you have one superpower. What is it?
Good grief, that's a tough one. To fly, I think. I watch the neighbourhood birds every morning while I have my cup of tea (our courtyard is three stories above ground, overlooking a park), and they're so graceful. They look like they're having fun and I wouldn't mind joining them!

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Karl Marx, definitely! I'd be curious what modifications he'd make to DAS KAPITAL if he had to write it now. An inhabitant of Mycenean Crete, so s/he could help me decipher Linear B script. And Jesus Christ, because I don't think we have the full story.

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
None of them. That's not to say my characters don't contain elements of me, but none of them contain all, or even most, of me. I prefer to take one trait (maybe my impatience, or my ego) and then I like to twist the surrounding circumstances to create someone new.

The Surgeon's Apprentice Book Blast

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Richard will be awarding a $25 Amazon Gift Card to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Alex is a ditzy but adorable final-year medical student, whose sex life seems doomed to fantasies about Hollywood hunks and abuse and misuse of the mirror in his bedroom. Then along comes blond and blue-eyed Will, all sinewy muscles, a gorgeous face and a top orthopaedic surgeon to boot, but equally hopeless when it comes to love. Their first encounter in his clinic is almost ruined by an embarrassing incident with a pair of disposable briefs, but mutual attraction prevails and brings them together.
When ghosts from Will's past threaten their future together and all looks lost, Alex devises a plan to save Will’s reputation.
But will love be enough to save the day and win Alex the man of his dreams? Or will he be doomed to eating his favorite apple crumble all alone-–with lashings of crème anglaise, of course.

Excerpt:
Alex sat outside Mr J’s office waiting to be called in. It had been raining heavily and his clothes were damp from the walk to the hospital. Thankfully, his pain receptors were no longer firing off whenever he moved and the bruises had turned a less alarming yellowy-brown. There was certainly nothing outward about him that would make Mr J know about the assault. And he planned to keep it that way, as it was basically his fault that he’d been beaten up.

The door opened. “Come on in, Alex. I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.”

Alex followed Mr J and sat down next to him. He rummaged in his bag for his statement and placed it on the table in front of them for Mr J to read. It was a few pages long and Alex used the time to absorb details about the man next to him. He had a comforting, recently showered smell to him and his hair was still damp. His right ear had been pierced sometime in the past although the hole was closed up. His nose was straight and his nostrils flared sexily. He’d missed a few hairs above the Adam’s apple when shaving. Alex was mesmerized by the movements of his soft lips as he spoke. So much for moving on from his infatuation.

“Alex?” Mr J asked. He’d turned to look at him.

Alex blushed and hoped that Mr J hadn’t noticed anything. “Oh, I’m sorry, Mr Jackson. Where had we got to?”

“Alex, I was asking you what you found out at the pub.”

“Oh yes. Okay, I met up with someone who knew me from when I worked behind the bar. She asked me what I’d been doing recently and I mentioned your name. She immediately recognised it and started talking about a regular in the pub who was alleging the wrong operation had been performed. She also mentioned he was suing the hospital for a six-figure sum. Did you know that?”

“I’m afraid so.”

“Anyway, she then talked about him coming into the pub on a crutch, but with the injured leg shifting from one to the other almost daily. To cap it all, she’d overheard a couple of his family planning the whole thing. So, she thinks he was putting it on.”

Alex was aware that Mr J was looking at him while he was speaking and he seemed to be examining his profile. He reddened again and felt strangely self-conscious.

Mr J cleared his throat. “So, Alex, putting the statements from you and my registrar together, what this adds up to is that Mr Peters could be pulling a fast one. But the fact that my registrar didn’t check your clerking makes things more difficult. On the other hand, what you turned up from your inquiries at the pub certainly suggests duplicity. But we can’t use that information directly as it is just hearsay. Quite frankly, I’m not sure why my registrar recommended the knee replacement anyway, as the osteoarthritic changes on X-ray are fairly minor. Still, he’s being discharged with outpatient physiotherapy and we’ll just have to see what the hospital makes of the whole picture.”

Mr J stood up. “I’m really grateful for all the work you’ve put into this, and particularly your bit of private investigation. I’ll definitely be recommending you for a commendation.”

“Gosh, thanks, Mr Jackson,” said Alex, thinking that’d be the first commendation he’d ever got in a surgical firm.

“Oh, Alex, there is one other thing,” Mr J said, just as Alex was about to open the door to leave.

“Yes?” asked Alex, his anxiety level climbing sky high.

Mr J was looking directly at him and he seemed to be smiling nervously. “I’m not sure how to say this, and the medical school would probably have kittens if they knew, but I’m going to say it anyway…” It was a pause of elephantine proportions. “…Alex, I’m wondering whether you’d like to go out for a drink.”

Alex was stunned. “You mean a coffee?”

“Whatever you like,” replied Mr J, his smile appearing more confident. “After all, I’m buying. We could have something to eat as well.”

There was a brief silence when they just looked at each other - and properly looking this time. “You don’t mean for a date, do you?” Alex asked, hardly daring to believe the turnaround from the despair and pain of the last couple of weeks.

“I hope so. If you don’t mind, of course. And the name’s Will, by the way.”

-Contains a unique combination of Dead Sea minerals derived from Dead Sea Mud
-100% All Natural Moisturizing Soap

My Review:
4 stars
I loved using this soap. While it doesn't really have a scent, it lathers really well. After several weeks of using it, my skin felt smooth and soft, plus it has helped prevent my occasional acne breakouts. My biggest problem with my skin is I have very dry skin, especially after showering. After using this product, my skin was smoother and stayed smooth long after my shower, which I loved.

The only problem with this is that it is kind of expensive for a bar of soap, but if you suffer from acne or really dry skin, then I would recommend giving it a try.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Brigand Blurb Blitz

Blurb:
Kidnapped and held prisoner by menacing Scottish brigand, the notorious McCloud, Violet Wyeth does her best to persevere…and resist his rakish charms. But when she realizes The McCloud is really Ewan St. Andrews, the boy who once saved her life, the boy who once kissed her and made her heart flutter, she is lost.

Ewan has every intention of marrying Lady Kaitlin MacAllister. He desperately needs the entrée into the ton this bride can provide. But when his bride is delivered—bound and gagged—it’s not Kaitlin. It’s Violet Wyeth—the girl who betrayed him and ruined his life when he was a boy. He keeps her, determined to punish her for her sins. But when he discovers the truth about what really happened so long ago, and seething passion rises between them, he can no longer hold on to his rusty grudge. By the time he realizes how much he loves Violet—that he always has—he’s lost her.

All he can do is follow her. Follow her into the bowels of hell—and partake in the torment of the glittering London Season, where the harpies are far more dangerous than a Scottish brigand.

Excerpt:
Violet stared at the hulk of a man lounging in the chair by the fire. Her heart skittered in her throat. He was so…ominous. So angry.

“Did you think I wouldn’t find you?” His voice, a low thrum, echoed through the small room. “Did you think I would just let you go?”

“Ewan.” She swallowed. “How did you—”

“How did I find you? It hardly signifies.” He stood, tall and menacing, and approached the bed. “I did. I always will.” He glared down at her. “Do you have any idea how dangerous these woods can be?”

She tipped up her chin. “I can take care of myself.”

He snorted. “The hell you can. Goddamn it, Violet. You could have been injured. Or raped. Or worse.” His eyes took on an unholy glow.

“The risk was worth it. Better than being held captive, being used by you.”

His lip curled at her choice of words. “Used?”

“As a means to an end,” she spat. Then she hunkered back, because he leaned toward her, nostrils flared, ferocity flowing from him in waves.

“You know it isn’t like that. It wasn’t like that.”

“I don’t know.” She flinched as he seized her shoulders in a crushing grip. Shook her. Just a tiny bit.

“It wasn’t like that. And you enjoyed it.”

She put out a lip. “I did not.” A complete and utter falsehood, but she let it slip out because she was still tender, still wounded by his words. The denunciation of her true feelings helped dam up the pain.

Her denial infuriated him. He yanked her up and into his arms. His mouth closed on hers.
