BIO:
J. A. Huss never took a creative writing class in her life. Some would say it shows. Others might cut her some slack. She did however, get educated and graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Equine Science. She had grand dreams of getting a Ph.D. but while she loves science, she hated academia and settled for a M.S. in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida.

She went on to write science curriculum for homeschoolers and now runs a successful home business that creates and offers online science unit studies. When she’s not writing science curriculum or fiction, she works as a farm inspector, traveling the Eastern Plains of Colorado in a variety of environmentally friendly vehicles that never have four-wheel drive, so when she gets stuck in the mud in said vehicles, she has to beg for assistance from anyone who will help her. She is not bitter about that at all.

She’s always packing heat and she is owned by two donkeys, five dogs, more chickens and ducks than she can count, and of course, the real filthy animals, her kids. The I Am Just Junco series was born after falling in love with the ugliest part of Colorado and the Rural Republic is based on the area of the state she currently resides in, minus the mutants, of course.

EXCERPT:
Joshua twisted around to glance at me. “We’re gaining altitude, but I don’t know for how much longer. The other engines won’t take it.”
I nodded. “Weapons are in place. Just keep us flying.”
He turned his attention back to doing just that.
I jumped into the compartment underneath.
It was cramped. I had no idea who they thought they were going to get in here with a weapon of any real size. I laid flat on my belly. One of the two ribs of the compartment was jamming uncomfortably into my legs and I was fairly certain the other one was trying to take out my spleen. I opened the exterior hatch—
—and wished I had a pair of goggles and a flight hat. My hair whipped around my face, the wind making it impossible to see. I closed the hatch and rose. “Goggles,” I yelled. “I need goggles.”
Joshua reached down beside him, picked up a leather flight hat and threw it over his shoulder.
It missed me by a couple of arm lengths.
He pulled the goggles off his face and threw them my way.
He at least got those closer.
I scrambled to put both of them on and scurried back into my cubby hole. I could get claustrophobic quick.
This time, when I pulled the hatch, I could see and my hair wasn’t an issue, though breathing was. I’d had plenty of experience breathing at high altitude, but not this high and not this speed.
It was brutal.
But I didn’t really have time to worry about it.
Nix’s planes moved so fast. It was as if we were moving at super slow speed. I tracked one, but lost it before I could get a bead on it.
The world rocked and tipped starboard with another ricochet pop.
A second bird whizzed by. This time, I pulled the trigger—
--and nothing happened.
Crap!
“Joshua, what did you do?” I popped my head out of the hole and shouted. “Did you take the copernicium out?”
“No,” he ground out, pulling hard on the control stick, trying to regain the altitude we’d just lost. “I just reduced it. Find something else.”
There was nothing else. I slipped back into my hole, shook the pistol, and found another target.
There was a lot to choose from.
I pulled the trigger, ready to bolt and find another solution when veins of lightning lava exploded from the weapon toward my intended target. It hit the first, then his wingman, and destroyed a third.
I released the trigger and blinked.
There were big gaping, melted holes in each of the planes and they were headed for the sea. Fast.
I popped my head out. “This thing is fantastic!”
“That’s bloody awesome, Synn, but get these things off of me!”

Christmas WIshes Blog Hop

Hello, and welcome to my stop on the Christmas Wishes Hop! So, I was thinking about what I wanted to write about since I've been writing all about my Chistmas faves for the Merry Menage Hop. So then I decided to share my letter to Santa (stay with me now, it'll all make sense soon). So, here's my letter:

Dear Santa,

It's Emily again! Now, I've been a pretty good girl this year (I've only been naughty a few times, I swear!). I'm even going to leave out tons of cookies and milk for you (not that I'm bribing you or anything...) So, I just wanted to take the time to let you know what I want for Christmas.

1) Kindle: I'm currently using my Ipod to read my books and it's not very good on the eyes. Plus, I've heard great things about the Kindle, and I really want one!
2) Amazon giftcards: I'm currently saving up for a Kindle, so every giftcard counts. Also Santa, I plan on sharing the love too! See, I do loads of giveaways, but I'd like to be able to do even more in 2013! I promise, I do use my giftcards and own money to get prizes to give away (and to pay for shipping). So, it's the gift that keeps on giving. And Christmas is the season to give and receive, so it works well!
3) ARE giftcards: Let's be honest here. I have a huge book habit and I go through books like crazy. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't like to support my habit. So, I use giftcards to keep me going :)
4) A working laptop: 'Nuff said.
5) BOOKS, BOOKS, AND MORE BOOKS!! I have so many on my TBR wishlist, it's insane. I think I have more books on there then I could possibly ever read, though I will attempt to do so.
6) Socks. Now that I need loads of socks for my job, I have trouble finding even ONE matching pair. So, some socks would be greatly appreciated as well.

So, now that you've seen my list, I'd love if you'd remember me on Christmas Eve when you're handing out gifts to everyone! Also, I'm running a contest on my blog, and others will be sharing their Christmas wishes on it, so if you could check it out and help them as well, that's be awesome! Thanks a bunch Santa!!

Love,
Emily

**********************
So, now that you've seen my letter to Santa, what about you? Leave a comment with your Christmas wishlist (don't forget to include what books you want from your TBR). One lucky winner will win one of the books on their wishlist! Also, I'll be posting up trivia throughout the hop, and give you more chances to win awesome prizes! And, the more you comment, the more chances you have to win!

Also, you can enter for a chance to win the grand prize!  Enter for a chance to win a Kindle Paperwhite, a Nook Glow, and a $90 choice giftcard for either Amazon or Barnes and Noble. But wait, it gets better! Both Tablets will come with a book bundle!! How awesome is that?

Wisteria Tour and Interview

BLURB:
Sixteen year old Wisteria Kuti has two options—track the infected around the Isle of Smythe or leave the only known safe haven and face a world infested with flesh eating biters. But even with well-armed trackers, things go wrong and Wisteria ends up alone facing certain death, until she is rescued by the mysterious Bach. Uninfected, Bach is able to survive among the hordes of living dead.

Eighteen year old Bach, from a race known as The Family, has no interest in human affairs. He was sent here to complete his Great Walk and return home as a man—as a Sen Son. The Family regard humans as Dirt People, but Bach is drawn to this Terran girl, whom he has never seen before, but somehow knows.
Hunted by flesh eaters, cannibals, and the mysterious blood thirsty group called Red Phoenix, Wisteria and Bach make their way back to the Isle of Smythe, a community built on secrets and lies.

Quotes from Reviewers / Praise for Wisteria:

“I love the buildup of this story, getting to know the characters and watching their connection grow. I had no idea which way the story was headed and I was kept in suspense right up to the very end! It has plenty of action and a fascinating plot and I can’t wait to see what Bisi Leyton has for us next!!” Naomi Hop, Book Reviewer, http://nomisparanormalpalace.blogspot.com

“There are a lot of great things in this book, so much more than zombies and a struggle for survival. At it’s base core it is about star-crossed lovers, literally and the supporting characters roles… Ms. Leyton brings to Wisteria a mixture of science fiction, fantasy, dystopic world with a twist to the paranormal romance angle!”
http://cabingoddess.com/2012/10/wisteria/

“The book was full of nonstop action from the beginning until the end, and I did not put it down until I had finished it. I loved the book.” Author Monique Morgan, http://www.moniquemorgan.com

So, thanks for stopping by. Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
I've in London, but I work all over Europe, I'm hoping to get some work in Africa in the new year too.  I do most of my writing at night and weekends as I have a lot of time to myself.

How did you get started writing?

I started writing when I was eight, and finished my first novel when I was twelve. I took a long break once I got to high school, but started writing again last year and in the last 12 months, I've finished five novels and published two (Wisteria and Myopia).

What was the inspiration behind Wisteria? How did the title come about (does it mean anything)?

My inspiration was to write the story about a girl who was a little less than average. I tried to think what would it take for me to survive once society broke down. What are the tough choices people would have to make about living and how would that affect our personal freedom of a particular community. There are a lot of stories about travelers who come to a strange town and overthrow the community because the leadership is underhanded and evil. I thought hey, I'll tell a story about someone who's part of that messed up establishment and believes it's the only way to survive.

That was how I got started on the story.

Alright, I'm dying to know, why flesh eaters? And is that just another name for a zombie, or are they different from zombies?

Flesh eaters are slow moving zombies, but there are two types of zombies in Wisteria (no one picks that up). The second type are Thayns, they are soulless drones who serve the Family and do whatever the Family commands. While Thayns can be intelligent and non-violent, a lot of them are emotionally or mentally unstable as result of being renewed.

And believe me as far as the undead go, there are still at least one more type of zombie to come.

I can say this, flesher eaters and Thayns are NOT the main baddie of the book and Wisteria and Bach are up against forces neither of them can fathom.

Now, I don't want you to spoil the book, but what can you tell us about who The Family is?

The Family are human looking beings with green eyes that live on another realm. They are more powerful than humans, immune to the Nero virus and above all hate humans. Calling humans Dirt People or Terrans is their way of insulting and belittling us.

In turn a lot of humans do not trust the Family to the point where Bach's mother was captured, tortured and murdered when he was much younger. As a result, Bach has come to earth to get front row seats to watch the world be destroyed by flesh eaters.

So, what are you working on right now? Got any releases planned, or still writing?

I've been a little busy working on three projects, but they are at different stages

I've just released Myopia, the sequel to Wisteria. In this book we learn a lot more about the Family, who they are and what they want from the Terrans (or humans). We discover a bit more about  Bach's home life, Wisteria's heritage and Felip's greater plan.

Secondly, I've finished writing Aporia, the third book in the Wisteria Series #3 and aim to get that out by mid January or early February 2013.

My third project is a Historical Romance series 20 Guineas and 21 Elmer. It is set in 1950s Lagos between 17 year old Maggie Jimoh, who falls in love with her employers son. His is he first love, but knows her father will never agree because he expects her to marry one of her own people, preferably becoming a third wife to one of his friends. Both books should be out January and February 2013.

By the way, I'm giving away a free copy of a Wisteria Short Story paranoia to anyone who signs up for my newsletter at www.bisileyton.blogspot.com

Thanks so much for stopping by and answering my questions!

Thank you for having me.

Excerpt:
As she walked back to the ridge of the roof, Bach’s heart went with her. Someone had tried to hurt her. Tried to damage what belonged to him, and who he belonged to.
He started to feel dizzy from the volumes of strangle weed planted in the front of her house.
“Thank you so much for coming and for the guitar. It’s perfect.” She gave it back to him.
“No, it is yours, Wisteria.” He refused to take it. “Do you not like it?”
“No, I love it. It’s so beautiful.”
“Then keep it.” He kissed her neck. Knowing—hoping—his touch would soothe her pain, but he hadn’t come here to comfort her.
“Bach.” She used her instrument as a shield as she moved away from him. “It’s a bad idea. You won’t understand.”
“You are right. I do not get why you would refuse something you apparently love,” he whispered while rubbing her forearms and taking in her scent.
“If I accept your kindness, then I’ll have to face the consequences. I don’t know if I can face those.”
“You cannot face accepting my kindness, or is it accepting me that you cannot face?”
“Um…?”
“Tell me that you do not feel the same,” he whispered. “That the moment you first saw me that I did not get inside your head. Tell me that you do not think about me all of the time when we are not together?”
The dark-eyed girl did not answer.
Wishing he could will her to speak, he pressed her against his chest. Briefly, he noticed a black spot at the base of her neck, where he had kissed her, and then it was gone. “Okay, Wisteria. Then tell me that you want me to leave, and that you do not care if you never ever see me again.” He felt like someone else was speaking for him, once again. The questions became pointless as he found himself still planting kisses along her neck and the sides of her face.
“I can’t tell you that, Bach,” she replied softly, her voice breaking. “Because it’s not true.” She wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly.
Desperately wanting to kiss her luscious-looking lips, he leaned into her.
Wisteria reached up to him, tugging his head down as she stood on the very tips of her toes, seemingly just as eager to taste his lips.
“Wisteria, I cannot.” He broke away before it happened. “I do not want this.”
* * * * *
Wrapping her arms around herself, she moved away from him. Once again, humiliated and feeling foolish. “Goodnight, Bach!” She strode angrily to the side of the roof in order to climb down.
He grabbed her and held her back
The guy came here just to tease her, yet again! Didn’t he know he was hurting her? Didn’t he care? “I’m tired of all this nonsense. I’m actually tired and need some sleep. I’m done with this. All of this!” She should’ve left the roof when she saw him appear. “Let go, so I can go.”
“Wisteria, it is not that.” Exhaling heavily, he released her. “My people could kill you if they knew I wanted you.”
This wasn’t at all what she’d expected him to say. “What?”
“I am in love with you. I do not know why, but I am. And it is selfish, because I just want you for myself.” Sadness filled his eyes as he spoke.
“Why would they do that to me?”
“Because you are human and because we see humans as Terran, or dirt people.”
“And you believe that too? So why are you here, living among us, if we’re so disgusting?”
“You are not disgusting. You are beautiful.” Rubbing his temples, he seemed troubled and bewildered. “I came to Terra as a rite of passage. To be considered a man, to take a journey and experience the wild.”
“The wild?”
“I chose Terra, or Earth, because I came here as a child. Your people treated me so badly in the past. When I learned about the Nero disease, I wanted to see your world.” He paused. “You were right when you said there was something wrong with me.”
“Bach, it cannot be that bad.” Stepping up to him, she stroked her fingers along his biceps.
The sweet motion made him smile at her, but he still looked distressed.
“Like about Garfield, you let him live with you. And now you’re here with me.”
“You are not like the rest.”
“Neither are you. You’re not so cold and cruel like Enric or patronizing like Felip. They think they’re better than us. You just hate people because you’re a jerk, Bach.”
“Ha.” Bach laughed. “A jerk?”
“You’re a big jerk.” As the final word rolled from her lips, he kissed her.
She was stunned for a second. His lips tasted like a strange, tantalizing spice.
He squeezed her against his larger frame and rested his right hand on the small of her back.
She fidgeted, unsure about what to do with her hands. She tried to kiss him back, but she struggled because she was so short.
