Bad Boy Billionaire’s Lady by Mary Hughes

Elizabeth promised a dying man she’d protect his charitable legacy. But how, when the greedy, manipulative sharks on the board want her out? And now the biggest shark of all, the Lovless heir, is coming home.

Rebel Lovless joined the Navy to escape his robber-baron grandfather molding him into a ruthless copy. So when the old man dies, the SEAL returns to give away his billions, only to find surprise charities—and a hostile board tearing at the throat of charity organizer, classy lady Elizabeth Rothschild.

Excerpt:
Just let me escape. I vow never to take a shortcut again.

Feet pursued Elizabeth. A hand clamped onto her coat. Her pulse kicked into overdrive.

“Where d’you think you’re going?” Skullcap dragged her to a stop.

She swung around, messenger bag first, the kitten carrier clamped to her body.

The mugger grabbed her by the lapels—and tore open her coat beneath the carrier strap.

She sucked in a shocked breath. Inhaled a wash of male stink. She recoiled automatically, heart hammering. The kitten released a terrified screech.

“Well, well.” The mugger dragged her back, his foul excitement pouring off him. “What’s this?”

She struggled against Skullcap’s hold, impotently, horrified that the situation had careened so out of control. Her blood thundered in her ears as she tried desperately to think of a way out…or was that the sound of a motor?

Suddenly, the hard roar of a powerful machine filled the mouth of the alley.

Beyond the muggers, a motorcycle skidded into the narrow way, its harsh engine reverberating against the buildings.

The goon spun toward the intruder. Freed, Elizabeth clutched the carrier and stumbled back, her pulse racing frantically.

The bike tore down the pavement and squealed to a stop a few feet from the mugger.

A big, helmeted, leather-clad man sat easily on the low-slung seat. Scuffed, shitkicker boots rested flat on the pavement.

Her panted breaths rasped in her ears. The mugger’s more dangerous biker pal? God, and she’d thought things couldn’t get worse.

One boot rose to toe the stand down. With a fluid lift of his muscular leg, the man dismounted easily, unfolding to almost a giant’s height. Face completely covered by a mirrored visor, he stood before them without a word.

More dangerous? Try deadly.

Elizabeth’s breath came in frosted little pants. Was she rescued, or in even more trouble than before?

Ruthless Billionaire by Cheryl Phipps
Billionaire, Benjamin Knight, needs a ‘date’ for his sister’s wedding. About to call an agency he literally falls over a promising candidate.  Uncharacteristically, he offers the cute and feisty red-head the job without knowing anything about her. A short time later Ben’s thinking this might be a huge mistake.

With her florist shop burned down, Jenna Molloy is desperate for money. Working for a sexy billionaire seems like a lifeline that could even be fun, until the wedding of the year turns into a disaster. Except for that one night of passion. Will one night be enough?

Excerpt:
"Oww! Watch where you're going, buddy."

Ben rolled to his side and found one of the workers cross-legged on the temporary floor, with a handful of decorations and a glint in her deep green eyes.

"Buddy?"

She shrugged. "I don't know your name."

"Ben."

"Well, Ben. I’m hardly invisible, and you nearly squashed me."

"Sorry, I had no idea that anyone was there."

“Fine.”

It clearly wasn’t fine, as she snubbed him and went back to making decorations. She leaned to the side to fetch scissors and some kind of raffia from a table. Her shirt lifted to flash a portion of a very trim stomach, and her jeans hugged her backside. With her hair tied in a ponytail, she was both cute and sexy. She stretched once more, and he was leaning more to the sexy part, about then.

"You're staring, Ben."

"Yeah, I guess I am.” He got to his feet as a compelling idea burst into his brain. “Are you a nice person?"

"Pardon?" she screwed up her button nose.
"Do you eat with a knife and fork, and are you pleasant to be around?"

Her eyes widened. "Are you having some sort of breakdown? Should I call someone?"

Damaged Love by Cristiane Serruya
When Richard lost his legs, a white lie made sure Giulianna, his fiancĂ©e, didn’t find out about it.

Two years later, Giulianna is hired to cater a wedding at Richard’s manor and the last thing she wants is to see Richard.

One lie tore them apart, breaking both their hearts. And even the truth might not be enough to mend their damaged love.

Excerpt:
From the adjoining room, a loud, brittle sound of glass shattering startled Giulianna, but what made her heart lodge midway in her throat was the grave, deep, gut-wrenchingly familiar tone of Richard’s voice.

She thought she had prepared herself to meet him; the man she had dated and loved for years—and still loved—but just the sound of his voice suffused her mind with anger, hurt, and longing.

A pull of awareness coursed through her. Her nipples suddenly tightened and she curled her fingers around the knife she was holding. The two years away did nothing to chase him away from her mind.

“Babe alert on max,” whispered Henriette.

She didn’t need her assistant’s alert to know who had just entered the large and modern kitchen where she was working. She could feel Richard’s magnetic presence demanding that she look at him.

Instead, she focused on assembling all of the tools and ingredients she would need for a fondant-covered confection worthy of a magazine spread. But she couldn’t fail to notice that Christina and Henriette had fixed their hungry gazes on his muscular six-foot-three frame, as if it was hunting season and he was their prey. Even Bella had turned and was staring.

“Jules,” Bella whispered. “He is staring at you. Rather angrily, I would say.”

That made her look up. Only ten feet away, Richard stood with his legs wedged apart, unyielding arms folded across his broad chest.

She wanted to blame the flush across her face on the heat emanating from the oven. But the rapid beat of her pulse confirmed it was one set of impressive royal-blue eyes across the room that was the cause.

If it was possible, he was even more handsome now than the last time she had seen him, more than two years ago. His sand-blond hair had grown from the military buzz and framed his rugged face in a lush mane. He looked broader in the shoulders, which was expected as he had always worked out a lot, but he also looked taller, by at least two inches, which didn’t make any sense, since he was already twenty-seven years old when they started dating.

She licked her suddenly dry lips and looked away.

Focus. It would take yet many hours to do the cake and to set up all the desserts for the four parties and she didn’t have time to waste on a man who had not even cared to break up with her face-to-face.

Spooning Daisy NBtM

Blurb:
Her mango chutney is exquisite; her blueberry sauce to die for. But Chef de Cuisine Daisy Moon is a woman without a kitchen after a "bit of trouble" at her last job. Now blacklisted from Seattle to San Francisco, Daisy's sole job offer is from Wild Man Lodge in Otter Bite, Alaska, where the end of the road is just her beginning.

Excerpt:
Max cocked his head at her. No siree, Bob. Daisy Moon was not easy. She was like a 1500 piece puzzle, where all the pieces are really tiny, and similar in shape and color, but are nonetheless different, and it would take weeks, maybe even months, just to get the edges put together.

"Don't look so surprised," she said. "I know I'm not exactly laid back. Okay, maybe that's being kind," she responded to Max’s smile. "But I'm an incredible cook. And a really good speller. Not to mention having a humongous vocabulary. I came in fourth in the national spelling bee championship when I was fourteen."

Without meaning to, Max pictured Daisy at fourteen, in a prim white blouse and a demure plaid skirt with her hair tied back in a ribbon, triumphantly spelling words like...concupiscence.

"Do I know what men want, or what?" Now Daisy smiled...at herself.

Taking the cue, Max leaned into her and spoke sincerely, but resisted the urge to cup her hand.

"Somewhere there is a man who wants a pretty redhead who's difficult and a great cook with a really humongous vocabulary who can spell...and next time it won't be a cross-dressing felon."

Maggie, thanks so much for stopping by. So, how did you get started writing?
I wrote my first book with crayons—I was six. It was about a boy and his donkey and I threw in a magical tree that disappeared and spoke. It got stellar reviews--my mom loved it. As a Gemini, I tend to have many interests, but writing has been a constant, even as an adult with a career in business. I took several university writing courses, attended RWA conferences, and wrote when I had time. Way back in 2000, I received my first Golden Heart nomination—my second came in 2012—so I’ve been in the writing trenches a long time. Spooning Daisy is my first published romance, but five (unpublished) romances came before it. I suspect most writers have similar beginnings—one day you just start writing.

What was the inspiration for your book?
The original idea (and opening scene) was inspired by my own garage sale, right down to the sheets covering the makeshift plywood tables and the silver-plated chafing dish. As the day progressed, I started thinking “what if…” and the book was born. The primary location of the story, Otter Bite, Alaska is inspired by the very real Kachemak Bay village of Seldovia where I spent summers during my 23 years living in Anchorage. Anyone interested in learning more about this special place can visit Seldovia.com

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
Mystery, leaning toward cozies. Although I typically have a bit of mystery in my stories, it’s not center stage.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
No horror! Or anything with blood and guts or serial killers, which could include a variety of genre’s, and absolutely no women or animals “in peril.” Again, this could encompass a variety of genres including romantic suspense. I’m tired of the stereotype of women as victims. I like to read at night before I sleep so I won’t write anything that would give me nightmares if I were reading it. Also, I think there’s enough sadness in the world, so I like my stories to be upbeat and funny.

What are you up to right now? Do you have any releases planned, or are you still writing?
Just finished “Embracing Felicity.” Yay!  This is book 2 in the Otter Bite series. The setting is the same, and we see some of the same supporting characters, but there is a new romance. Environmentalist and shop owner, Felicity Arhnaq is part native (Alutiiq) and her romantic interest is oilman and Scottish transplant, Ian MacIntyre, whom we briefly met in “Spooning Daisy” along with his 10-year-old daughter, Emily. Again, a romantic comedy, right from the start when Ian is attacked by Felicity’s ravens, Orville and Wilbur, and then her eagle, Franklin, steals his shoe. Throw in the legend of Sedna, a 200-year-old mermaid, and there’s lots of fun with mystery and environmental undertones. And for those familiar with Spooning Daisy, we see what’s happening with Max and Daisy since their Happily Ever After.

Anyone wanting to read the first chapter can visit my website. Or, if you sign up for my Once in a Blue Moon newsletter, I’ll be sending out the first three chapters to subscribers.

All right, now for some random, fun questions. Favorite color?
Red.

Favorite movie?
“Local Hero,” an oldie but a goodie, set in Scotland.

Book that inspired you to become an author?
When I was a kid, probably, “All Creatures Great and Small” by James Herriot. As an adult, probably “The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley, which coincidentally, I’m reading again after 30 years.

You have one superpower. What is it?
Mind reading. I’m trusting and even gullible, and I’ve been taken advantage of. But I don’t want to know what everyone’s thinking, all the time, so I want to be able to focus it and turn it on and off.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Great question, and one that I haven’t been asked until now. Definitely Winston Churchill. He’s a brilliant orator and inspired writer, and single-handedly united Great Britain during World War II. Also, Jesus. How awesome would that be? (I guess we’ll have “fishes and loaves” for dinner.) And last, but not least, my mom who died 17 years ago. I would so love to chat with her again—I owe her a few apologies. J

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
In Spooning Daisy, probably supporting character Rita, who is second-in-command at Wild Man Lodge. She’s no nonsense, quick witted, and funny (she delivers some great one-liners), and she loves food. She’s compassionate but doesn’t like wallowers, and she’s self-sufficient. I’m not exactly like Rita, or in equal measure, but I’m somewhere in there.

That’s all from me, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!
Thank you for presenting Spooning Daisy and for this awesome interview.

Blame it on the Bet Book Blast

Blurb:
Welcome to Mayhem, Minnesota, where the cats wear sweaters, the local priest dispenses dating advice, and you can find your fortune in the bottom of a pie pan.

When her family’s pub is threatened with foreclosure, Hennessy O’Halloran, along with her three sisters, is determined to raise enough money to keep it out of the hands of the L.A. real-estate developer trying to raze it and replace it with a—god forbid!—multiplex theater.

Bryan Truitt always gets what he wants. And what he wants is the sweet corner property on Mayhem’s Main Street where O’Halloran’s Pub sits. But his “quick business” turns into more than he bargains for when he meets the feisty Hennessy. Next thing he knows, he’s betting her he can outlast Mayhem’s punishing winter in time to make the pub his—or he’ll gift it to her for free.

Hennessy knows better than to flirt with the enemy. But suddenly Bryan’s not sure which he wants more…the property or the woman who owns it.

Excerpt:
Hennessy O’Halloran is looking progressively more fidgety as I close the distance between us.

“I–I…I mean, considering our…you know…our arrangement…” she stammers.

“Which arrangement?” I ask innocently.

“You know…our wager…”

“Oh, that arrangement. Yes, you’d think things might be awkward between us. But they’re really not, are they?” I muse. She doesn’t reply—nor does she make a move to thwart my approach. “Quite the opposite, actually. It’s the damnedest thing, Hennessy. I just can’t seem to stop thinking about…” I let the sentence hang between us until, finally, she clearly can’t take it anymore.

“About what? What can’t you stop thinking about?” she asks quietly.

We’re only a foot apart now, and she has to look up to see my face. That means I get to look down into her perfect, milky complexion. I’m so close that I could actually count the freckles dotting the bridge of her nose. I wonder if she has them anywhere else…

Before I can stop myself, I lower my head close to hers, and for a split second, I know we both think I’m going to kiss her. But at the final moment, my mouth veers to her left ear. I’m sure she can feel the warmth of my breath as I whisper the single word.

“You.”

Except it doesn’t sound like a word. It’s an exhalation—a sigh—and it floats from my mouth to her ear and heats the space between us for the brief moment before I turn and leave her looking after me as I walk back down the hall, self-satisfied smile on my face.

Oh, God.

I am in so much trouble here.

L.E. Rico didn’t set out to be an author. In fact, she’s made a name for herself as a classical music radio host—doing her best to make the music and the composers relevant by putting them into a modern context. It was just a few years ago that she discovered a passion for writing that blossomed into an entire novel. And then another. And another. And, while she still spends plenty of time on the radio, telling the stories of the great composers, she spends even more time composing her own great stories.

The Chronicles of Alcinia VBT

Blurb:
Available for the first time as an e-book bundle, the award-winning historical fantasy series The Chronicles of Alcinia weaves a tale of war, history, passion and romance.   In Book I, The King’s Daughter, Tarabenthia of Alcinia should grow to inherit her father’s throne by the rocky cliffs of the sea.  When invaders seize her land, what will she sacrifice in the name of love?  In Book II, Heart of the Earth, the Northern Prince who has always wanted Tia saves her life.  But will the price of his protection be too high?  And finally in Book III, Ice Maiden, readers who wondered about the fate of Tia’s oldest son have their answer.  Sometimes heart-wrenching, always powerful, this is a tale of heroes and the women who loved them.

Excerpt:
I was the King's daughter once, so many years ago that sometimes now it is hard to remember. Before the tide of time carried away so many things, so many people, it was worth something to be the daughter of a King.

Our little island nation of Alcinia was not rich, except for tin mines honeycombing the south. It wasn't even hospitable. Summer was a brief affair and fall was only a short time of muted colors on the northernmost coast where my father sat his throne at the ancient Keep of Landsfel. Winter was the killing time and spring was hardly better, with frosts that could last into Fifth- Month. But from the south, where men cut thatch in a pattern like the bones of fish, to the north where rock roses spilled down cliffs to the sea, it was my own.

One thinks such things will never change, yet all things do.

Miriam, thanks so much for stopping by. So, how did you get started writing?
My mother’s love of poetry and literature was undoubtedly the single most deciding factor in my writing career.  She read extensively to me from my earliest years and not just Dick-and-Jane stuff, either.  Mom had a love for the Medieval, the ghostly, the occasionally ghastly, too!

My childhood was populated by spectral knights in armor clanking around castles looking for lost loves, unicorns, troll bridges, haunted shipwrecks, fairies, elves and the Russian witch Baba Yaga, who lived in a house that danced around on chicken legs.  It was not your standard childhood fare. And, on the other end, my Irish grandmother stuffed me full of the myths and legends of her native country.  All of this produced a writer—to no one’s surprise.

What was the inspiration for your book?
It literally came from a dream.  I kept dreaming the same scene which now occurs in the first third of The King’s Daughter, and after that the rest of the book virtually wrote itself.

What’s the one genre you haven’t written in yet that you’d like to?
I would love to write a romance set in the Victorian era, but haven’t yet mastered that era.  It’s very demanding and I greatly admire the writers who can pull it off.

Are there any genres you won’t read or write in? Why?
I really don’t care for mysteries or, as a rule, contemporaries.  When I write—and when I read, for that matter—I really want to be transported to another time and place.

What are you up to now? Do you have any releases planned, or are you still writing?
A new release, Dark Child, is coming out right now.  It’s a Bardic-style novella based on my grandmother’s retelling of the ancient Irish story Deirdre of the Sorrows.  Many versions of that story have been written, but I have told hers.

Alright, now for some random, fun questions. Favorite color?
Blue.
Favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings
Book that inspired you to become an author?
The Once and Future King

You have one superpower. What is it?
Telepathy.

You can have dinner with any 3 people, dead, alive, fictitious, etc. Who are they?
Cleopatra.  Imagine the strength it took to live her life and die her death.  Einstein.  I’d like to see if I understood a single word he said.  And Aragorn from Lord of the Rings.  Self-evident to anyone who has seen the movie!

Last question: Which of your characters are you most like and how/why?
Queen Tia from The King’s Daughter.  She is a spoiled brat at the beginning of the book, but you can see her potential for growth as a woman and a ruler.  She overcomes great adversity, serves the people of two lands, loves well if not always wisely, and ultimately finds peace.

The Promise of Hope Shelter Blurb Blitz

Blurb:
Jacob Baumgardner is struggling to get his nonprofit shelter for gay teens up and running. The old building needs a lot of help in order for it to pass inspection. Raised by his grandparents for part of his life, the shelter is his chance to honor them. Unfortunately, someone is making his dream difficult. An anonymous extortionist is determined to ruin his late grandfather’s good name which could mean the end of the shelter.

Luka Smith is fairly new in town and willing to work hard at any job available. He is struggling to find his place in the world after a traumatic event in his teen years pushed him to run. When Jacob hires him to help with repairs at the shelter, Luka falls hard and fast. He wants nothing more than to be part of his world and help him with his dream, if Jacob will let him.

As they work together to ensure The Promise of Hope Shelter gets off the ground, their feelings only grow. But will a calculating blackmailer close the shelter before they even have a chance?

Excerpt:
Jacob was torn between being embarrassment of being caught in the middle of a panic attack and the safety he felt while wrapped in Luka’s arms. Technically this was the second time this man had rescued him in less than…two…maybe three hours. Okay, the first time was not really rescuing, but he’d still helped him during a bad situation.

He squirmed a little and tried to pull away, but Luka’s strong arms tightened around his waist.

“Give it a few more minutes.”

Jacob nodded and slumped back against the wall of muscle behind him. His heartbeat sped up and he realized he could feel Luka’s beating hard into his back. Had Luka been worried about him?

It felt so natural to be in the man’s arms. Jacob hadn’t dated in quite some time, mainly due to his grandparents’ death and trying to start this new shelter, but he also hadn’t met anyone that had piqued his interest. And Luka definitely piqued his interest. Unfortunately, he was pretty sure he hadn’t made the best impression on Luka, although he was just as confident that Luka wouldn’t soon forget meeting him. .

“I’m okay,” he whispered.

“Okay,” Luka replied, pulling back. “No quick moves.”

Jacob nodded and waited for Luka to stand before he tried to push himself from the floor. His legs felt like jelly, so he was glad when Luka reached down like a lifeline. He grabbed onto the hand and let Luka pull him to a standing position.

They faced each other, Jacob eye level with Luka’s chin. He was too embarrassed to say anything and too wobbly to move, so he concentrated on the cleft in Luka’s chin.

“Jacob?”

Luka’s voice washed over him and brought him warmth. He caught himself before he leaned his forehead into Luka’s perfect golden skin. “Mmm?”

Luka’s thumb gently nudged up his chin until Jacob looked into his eyes. Dark chocolate eyes full of concern. “Are you okay?” Luka whispered, his hot breath caressing Jacob’s flesh. He shivered and nodded.

The Billionaire in Her Bed Book Blast

Blurb:
Real estate mogul Eli Ward needs to keep a low profile on his new project. He’s expecting a fight from the somewhat eclectic folks currently living there. What he doesn’t expect is for that fight to be led by Brooke Worthington, the woman who rocked his world one unforgettable night. The one woman who doesn’t know who he is, which is a good thing. She just sees him as a regular guy. It’s refreshing.

Graphic designer and part-time bartender Brooke Worthington refuses to follow her family’s plan for her. She’s too busy building her artistic career. She doesn’t have time for relationships, either, especially with the super hot Eli, because she has to save the building she lives in with people she thinks of as her real family from some greedy real estate billionaire.

These two have secrets and chemistry that is nothing short of explosive.

Excerpt:
Brooke cleared her throat for attention. “Okay, people. As exciting as our new addition is, we’re still in the middle of a meeting here.”

“We can deal with the garden later. I want to hear more about Eli.”

An older woman eyed him appraisingly from the sofa. The gray-haired man next to her blew a loud raspberry, but she continued, undeterred.

“I don’t see a ring on your finger. Tell me, young man, do you have a girlfriend?”

“Or a boyfriend?” asked David, the arm around Chris tightening.

“I’m straight,” Eli assured him, then directed his gaze at Brooke. “And single.”

She ignored him and started in on the bean dip.

“Oh, what a pity.” The older woman tsked her disapproval. “A handsome young man like you should have someone to come home to.”

“Get a dog,” the man next to her suggested. “Less expensive than a woman, and they never talk back.”

“Or cook dinner,” said the woman next to him, who Eli had figured out must be his wife. “Or do your laundry. Or…”

“See what I mean about talking back?” Her husband pushed his wire-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose.

“Dog’s definitely the way to go.”

“About the garden…” Brooke tried again.

“Is it true, what Chris said?” Charise piped up. “Do you and Eli really know each other?”

“Were you two an item?” David asked, jumping on the way-too-personal bandwagon.

“Despite what you all seem to think, this is not Melrose Place.”

Brooke adopted a Wonder Woman power pose, hands balled into fists on her hips and feet planted firmly apart. “And I am not sharing the details of my private life at a tenants’ meeting.”
