I loved using this. Absolutely loved it. We’re replacing all the flooring in the house right now, and are in the process of removing tile, a dusty, dirty job. I whipped up a bottle of this cleaner (using just a plain old, $1 spray bottle) and used it on everything. Windows, mirrors, floors, the bathroom…you name it, I used this cleaner on it. Not only did it work wonderfully, I didn’t get a headache from using it, like I do when using bleach or other cleaners. The smell wasn’t horrible and overpowering as well, another bonus. Plus, I got quite a lot of use out of the packets I used, and I still have some to spare. These are definitely worth the price, and I highly recommend them. I know I’ll definitely keep using these in the future :)

So, my review has changed slightly due to recent events. When I went to use the cleaner again, I discovered that somehow, two of the packets I had left over had gotten damaged, even though they were still stored in the original packaging, and leaked all over the place. I stored the packets properly, and they were sitting with other cleaning supplies, all of which were perfectly fine. I contacted the company, and they said that they would look into it. So, this significantly affected my review, since if you can't even store them without fear of them leaking, then why bother getting them? Hopefully I'm just the odd anomaly and this doesn't happen to anyone else. Nevertheless, I would still recommend giving these a try as they are great cleaners.

My Review:

I tried two different scents. The first one was Kona Coffee Kick. I couldn't stand it. I've been to Hawaii and have had Kona Coffee. This smelled nothing like it. It smelled disgusting. I asked over a dozen people if they wanted to use it so that I could still write a review, and they all hated it too. No one could get over how bad it smelled, even the avid coffee lovers I know. For that, I would give the soap 1 star. Fortunately, once I contacted SOAP club, they offered to let me choose a different scent free of charge.

For my second scent, I chose Sea Breeze. I loved this scent. It was fun, tropical, and relaxing. The soap lathered well, and made my skin feel great. The soap is a good size, and I give it 5 stars. While this is a bit pricey for a bar of soap, I still greatly enjoyed using it and would recommend giving their soaps a try, as the company's customer service is great and will work with you to make sure that you find the scent you like.

I ended up giving this 3 stars since I gave the Kona Coffee Kick 1 star and the Sea Breeze 5 stars.

Throwback Thursday - VN2 by Gwenna Sebastian

If only he could be sure bonding with Nate doesn’t mean he’s going to be controlled by a partner as much as he’s been controlled by his father, and his destiny.

Several months ago, Sergeant Nathan Williams lost his Bond partner in battle and along with it, his will to live. But a trip to the local recreation hub for black market supplies buys him more than he bargains for - a Bond with a new partner, Lieutenant Ian Davidson. There is something about Ian that forces Nathan to believe that the Bond between them could be stronger than his previous one. If only he can convince Ian to give in and give the Bond a chance.

When Nathan is captured on VN2, the worst post in existence, Ian is forced into new territory that he’s not familiar with - the leadership of a reluctant special forces team and his newly discovered feelings for Nathan. The struggle to accept the Bond spills into the battlefield, and Nathan is pushed to the brink with memories of his old Bond. It becomes sexual tension hell as event after event threaten to tear the couple a part when both want nothing more than to tear each other’s clothes off.

I wasn’t 100% sure how to feel about this book. I absolutely loved certain parts of it, and hated others.

To start with, I love sci-fi novels, and this one sounded particularly interesting. I was also excited about the length, since longer sci-fi novels usually have a lot of exposition and world building, which I love to read. And while both of those elements were present in this book, there wasn’t as much as I had been expecting when I saw the book length. However, I still enjoyed the world building that was present.

I also loved the beginning. I was drawn into the story, and presented with multiple POVs, which might irritate some people, but I think it worked very well in the story, as it gave you a way to get more information and exposition without a giant boring info dump. I also thought it was an interesting choice for the author to have a good part of the beginning after the opening told from other character’s POVs since one of the main characters was out of commission and the other wasn’t in much better shape. So we heard a lot of the beginning after the first two chapters entirely from the POV of secondary characters. Heck, there were times even when I wondered if the secondary characters should become the main characters, yet somehow, it worked for the story.

I also liked the action scenes and the characters. Most of the action was in the beginning and end of the book, and was very enjoyable. Plus, I absolutely loved Ian in the beginning. Even when he was hurting, he was still a strong character, and he didn’t just accept the Bond when he was told that he was Bonded to Nathan. While it seemed over the top and a little over repeated at times, I fully enjoyed his stubbornness and badassery. I also really liked Doc, as he provided a great voice of reason in the story, not only for the main characters, but for their entire unit.

As for the parts I hated, one was the lack of explanation. Terms like Truebred, Regulars, and Bonded were used, and while it was indirectly explained what they meant, there was no explanation as to why these terms were used. Plus, information about these ranks was also missing as well. For instance, can a Regular become a Truebred? Since Regulars are ordinary soldiers and Truebreds are officers, in the military, it is possible to rise through the ranks. However, this is never explained, it is just stated that Regulars apparently really hate Truebreds. Other information was hinted at, but never fully delved into. I would have loved to learn more about the world this story is set in, as we barely touched the surface of it. So much is hinted at and left unexplored that I would become frustrated at times when right as it seemed I was getting some exposition and backstory, the plot would jump to a different track and I would be left with questions. So I never became quite as invested in this world as I would have liked, which kept this from being a 5 star for me.

Another part I hated was Doc and Sean’s beginning. Basically, a major event in the story is the potential of a Forced Bonding. Basically the partner being refused gets so out of control due to the instantaneous Bond between the two that they force themselves on their partner, forcing the bond to form. So basically, it’s rape or at in Doc’s case, extremely dubious consent.

WARNING! MAJOR SPOILERS ARE IN THE NEXT TWO PARAGRAPHS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO AVOID THE SPOILERS, SKIP THE NEXT TWO PARAGRAPHS.

Doc basically had a valid reason to fear his bonding since he met his mate after being held captive and raped for a long period of time. Yet within days of meeting, the Bond forces Sean to forcefully bond with Doc, who wants to bond with Sean, but can’t get over his fear because, oh yeah, he was held captive and raped!! So very dubious consent bordering on non-consent there. Oh yeah, and his fellow military men and commander? Did absolutely nothing to stop it from happening.

So, I get why the author had this as a character’s backstory, since the Forced Bonding was a major threat for the main characters to face. So it would make sense to have a personal experience account of a Forced Bonding. However, in this case, I had a major problem with what happened to Doc. Why couldn’t the partner being refused offer to bottom? Why did they have to top? In Doc’s case, I’m sure topping his partner would probably have been far less traumatic than bottoming, yet he was apparently forced to submit to someone who he would then fall in love with, mere days after being rescued from being held captive and raped. And again, no one around them tried to help, yet Doc was able to help prevent this from happening to the main characters? So Sean could have been stopped, but wasn’t, even when everyone around them knew it was going to happen.

Now, I don’t mind stories that contain non or dubious consent so long as they’re integral to the story and have a point. While I’m glad that the author faded to black rather than graphically depict the event, in this case, I think it was highly unnecessary. I’m not even sure why Forced Bonding was introduced to the story, when you could have picked another central threat for the couple to face that didn’t involve the resisting man getting raped by his bonded partner. This is a major part of the story, as over half of the story revolved around this aspect. It was such a huge part of the story, that over time it stopped seeming threatening and suspenseful and just became repetitious and annoying. Because of this, the story went from a 4 star read down to a 3 star read for me.

All in all, this was a hard story for me to review. While there were parts that I absolutely hated, I still enjoyed reading the book. The author shows a lot of promise, and I think the book could have definitely been a 5 star read for me. It also felt like book one of a series to me. There were hints dropped and while the book did have a happy ending, it also seemed open, like the author left information out to potentially create a sequel. I would like to see a sequel, especially since Forced Bonding (hopefully) wouldn’t play a role in the sequel. Therefore, we would get to learn more about the world these characters live in. I personally would love to see the Bonded fight for better treatment than they are get and for a chance to prove themselves in battle or such that would get them recognition and respect.

That being said, I’m not sure who to recommend this to. So, you’ll have to make your own decision on this one. I put a lot of detail into this review, especially on topics that could be absolute no-nos to others, as well as aspects that other readers might like in their sci-fi so that you can hopefully make an informed decision about whether or not this book is for you.

Wellness Wednesday - Dead Sea Bath Salts Review

I'm back! Yep, I'm back to posting on a regular schedule again. And so for today's Wellness Wednesday, I am reviewing Adovia's 1.75 pound bag of Dead Sea Salt. These salts supposedly helps provide relief for sore muscles, something I am desperately in need of after sleeping on a couch for several days and doing a lot of moving and heavy lifting. Since I suffer from back and feet pain that isn't easily relieved, I was excited to see if these would work. And they did help. After using these, i noticed that I wasn't feeling all of the minor aches and pain that I put up with on a daily basis. It also helped with my back pain, though the effect didn't last very long once I got out of the bath. These salts also didn't have much of a scent, which I kind of liked since I was using them more for medicinal purposes rather than pampering ones. All in all, I liked using these salts and would likely purchase them in the future.

Texting Base Review and Giveaway

Texting Base is an invention in texting technology currently in Beta.

Everyone knows what a group text is.  On your phone, they are probably limited to 40 people.  Each person who receives a group text has no doubt that they just received a group text...it's not personal at all.

Texting Base allows our customers to write one text and send unlimited numbers of people highly personalized texts.  The recipients feel and believe that each text was written by the send and not part of a group text.

We also have automated birthday texts, holiday texts and created a way for travelers to create groups by City/State or Zip to reach when they are in town.

My Review:

I used this app over a period of several weeks. My experience did change from when I started using it to when I stopped using it, leading me to believe that the company is constantly making improvements, which I applaud. Also, I used my laptop for all this, so keep that in mind when reading my review.

To start with, I added basic information about my contacts; name, contact info, address, etc. It then went on to ask detailed questions, such as my contact’s spouse, children, alma maters, work information, etc. However, I then ran into my first problem. The app also started asking odd questions about my contacts such as their political affiliation, account information, and some other sensitive information that I did not really feel comfortable adding into an online application, especially since I didn’t know the level of security present on the site. Fortunately, all of this information was optional and you only put in information you wanted to. I get that this is aiming to be an application where you can add in information about your friends that you should remember but might not be able to off the top of your head, but I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable answering at least a quarter of the questions.

You then also had the chance to add in custom information or notes about your contacts (which would be very helpful if using this for business) and you could also then add in information about your contact’s favorites on pretty much everything. From sports teams to drinks, sports to other activities, the choices were very specific and plentiful.

So after adding in three of my friends who agreed to be my test subjects, I started sending out messages. At first, I had to schedule all my texts, even those I was sending in live time because live messaging wasn’t working. The people I tried texting didn’t receive the messages, even though I was able to receive their responses, unless I wrote the post and scheduled it to be delivered a minute or so later. When I tried using live messaging a week later, it worked, so that was nice.

To test out what happens to scheduled posts set further in time, I scheduled a text on July 11 to go out to three of my friends on August 2, Friendship Day. I also scheduled a birthday text to go out to one of my friends on August 7. However, none of them received the Friendship day messages, and I do not yet know if my friend received her birthday text. Now this might be due to the fact that this was a trial for me to review, so maybe my scheduled posts were removed or something. So I don't know if this actually works or is something that will be fixed since Texting Base is in beta testing.

All in all, this seemed like a very useful application for someone with a job in sales or who works in an office and has to keep track of a lot of different people. This application was (to me) a combination of an address book, texting and using Facebook. So I do not think that I would keep using this, especially since I can use Facebook to instant message my friends versus using this for live messaging. The biggest advantage of Texting Base is being able to pre-schedule mass texts to go out and to record information you might need to know. Being able to mass text people rather than mass email them, hoping they'll get your message or respond is the most useful application for Texting Base in my mind. The people I know are more likely to check their phones then their emails, so that was useful. And for instance, if you're trying to shmooze a potential client, being able to remember their kids' names or their favorite sports team could be very important, but not something you would necessarily remember off the top of your head. 

So I don't know how useful this application would be, since it depends on what you would use it for. Like I said, I think this would be helpful in a business setting, but not necessarily in a personal setting (unless you are very forgetful and would rather schedule texts in advance rather than risk forgetting, which is actually a pretty good use of this).

Welcome to August Updates

Welcome to August! Sorry for being incommunicado this past week. I’ve been on vacation with my family, plus I’ve been trying to finish up my school work since this is my final week of class. I’ll get back to my weekly posts this coming week, since I will be finished with my classes by then. I haven’t forgotten about my wrap-up post for RainbowCon, which will also be coming later this week, so keep a look out for it.
